Yes and the bride could of also offered to pay the difference, I bought one of my bridesmaids dresses because she was in a much more difficult position financially but it was more important to me that she be part of my day then stress over affording a dress for 1 day. My girls also picked their own dresses in one color and length so they could choose their budget more individually.

The show does it for drama. Some of the previous brides have let the cat out of the bag on a few things.

I hate the bride for this because she obviously knew the bridesmaid's budget beforehand and still embarrassed her on TV. It's hateful even if she didn't make her buy it

If the bride's willing to change her mind, that's great and it does seem like she liked the cheaper dress just as much as the lacy one. If she was dead-set on the lace dress then sorry, Candace, she'd be a super-shitty friend to kick her life-long BFF out of the wedding because BFF doesn't have $300 just laying around. I would absolutely pay the difference or buy the whole dress myself (isn't that how it used to be done?!) to make sure my best friend could be with me on my big day. That's what friends do.

@@ashleycooper7686 I must be super old-fashioned because I was prepared to buy my bridesmaid's dress (I was only gonna have the one because my circle of family & friends is so small), put her up in my house and buy HER a gift. She couldn't make it because of her job but that's just what I view as part of the expense of getting married - supplying the bridal party with dresses, bouquets, and a small gift.

If the bride really LOVED the first dress as much as her friend, knowing her friend-who's stood by her for longer than her fiance/former husband, has been there for her through eveeything-can't afford it, she could have paid the difference for her (or even gifted her the dress). "An I love you, and I want you up there with me on my day, because you supported me and my gift to you as my best friend for all you have done is standing by my side" If I was that bridesmaid put ON THE SPOT over a financial choice I couldn't cover (that I knew was out of my budget), knowing everyone was waiting for me to let the bride down I think I would have dissolved into tears, she way stronger than me. The second dress is fun, flirty and flattering, so who really cares.

I withdrew from my younger sisters wedding party when 20 years ago she insisted on a bridesmaid suit that looked like a stewardess but cost 600.00. She only wanted the designer name. I'd just finished my masters degree had no money and that outfit wasnt re wearable. Years earlier she'd set up such a fuss at my wedding bridesmaid choice that I was forced to change colour themes by my mother to please the then 15yr old. Ugh.

Agreed but perhaps she should have declined being a brides' maid because the dress is just the beginning of the expenses she will incur starting with alterations, shoes, etc. I totally sympathize and admire the single mom and her priorities are right in that they are focused on her son, so IMO she could give the role a pass and just enjoy herself at the wedding. The bride can still spend time with her and get pictures of the two of them or the three of them, whatever.

She has enough money to pay for a $200 dress and what comes with that but over that is not in the budget and so takes the money away from her raising her son.

This is the entire reason that if I get married, if I choose to have bridesmaids, I’m going to be sure to pay for the dresses myself. If I’m asking you to possibly take time off work and deal with my drama, the LEAST I can do is pay for a dress that I picked out and am making you wear.

My Daughters have each been in 3 weddings in the last 10 yrs. where they bought their own & My oldest married in Oct. 2018 and her maids bought their own dresses. I was in a wedding in the late 80's & paid for my own dress. Didn't even cross my mind that the bride pay for it. I don't think it's expected of the Bride now if it ever were.

I hate that episode. If I was that bridesmaid, that friendship would be over unless I got a proper apology. This sort of thing should never happen at an appointment, it should be discussed beforehand. She was essentially trying to strong arm the bridesmaid by putting it on national TV and hoping she'd bend.

@@Chelossy1 the way I see it, bridesmaid should pay if she gets to choose. That way she can choose a dress she likes and can reuse in the future. If the dress is just a bride's choice, something to complete her 'dreamy wedding', she should pay for it herself.

I had my bridesmaids buy their dresses but they were also $35. They were gorgeous and I paid for shipping and any alterations. They were a dress you could wear to any nice event as well. These bridesmaids dresses on this show are one time use and cost so much!

That's a good idea, No one should be forced to pay for something they hate Our bridemaids pay too but we planned it differently: My fiancee and I discussed what type of dresses or color we think suits our weddingstyle And then we talked with our bridemaids about the options till everyone was happy with the dresses It may be more time consuming But it's just fair

You have to count shoes under garments, hair, make up and nails. It adds more than $200. The Bride should offer to help her friend out.

That was very sweet of you! But unrealistic for most Brides. Most couples are paying for their own weddings now a days with just a bit pitched in from the families.

Your wedding as a bride is all about you and your desires but for the bridesmaids it’s just a party they are a part of. They don’t need to be shelling out a week's worth of grocery money for their family on a dress they will likely only wear once.

@@airyrelic43 REAL friends don't mind shelling out the money for the bride but along those lines a true friend doesn't choose an outrageous dress for her maids .My oldest Daughter married in Oct. 2018 and she and her maids choose their $79.00 dresses and they were perfect! And NO it wasn't just a party for them - these girls have been besties since they were 8 years old and are now 35, and it meant something to them. A LOT of brides just choose someone to stand up with her instead of having only close, true, real friends.

I felt like she was just saying that even if she could afford it and liked it, she wasn't SO committed to it that she didn't understand the other lady is in a different situation. Just keep in mind that what makes sense for your culture will not make sense for the next culture. I am Tongan and have been in 3 wedding. Yes I have bought my dresses for all three weddings, but I had no problem with it. It is the norm for Americans. It use to be the norm when the brides parents not only paid for the wedding, but also the bridesmaids dresses as well, but that went out the door from the mid 1990's into the 2000's.

I’m not Indian but I think it’s ludicrous how anyone has to pay so much for something they’re unlikely to wear ever again. Weddings are a rip-off in general and it IS a lot to ask that of somebody, regardless of their budget.

For most people the cost of the wedding is already a strain on their budget so close family and friends chip in to make the wedding.

Because no longer do parents pay for weddings completely, and so young couples have to pay most themselves. And wedding dresses are 2000 and up. So it became the gift of the wedding party to pay their own outfit, dress, tux etc.
