the reason for separate bedrooms is two fold. It was a status symbol. Not only did the children have their own rooms, but every adult had their own rooms as well. While having one room and one bed was seen as a thing for the poor. Also, the wealthy and especially the titled peerage didn't often have love matches. If love grew, great! but if it didn't or if they actively hated each other, it was nice to have their own space. And they only went to one another when it was time to make children. But they don't have to stick to this rule at all. They are not forced to sleep alone if they didn't want to.
