Edwina is not called "Miss Sharma." As the younger sister, she is "Miss Edwina," so the servants would know whom he meant by "Miss Sharma." That can only be Kate.

Kate’s hair became more loose or free as she started to admit her feelings/feel more feelings/emotions. She’s always been very “uptight” and finally little by little letting loose so to speak

Eloise is so privileged and she annoys me so mad on how reckless her actions are. Edwina also annoyed me because she keeps acting like it’s Kate’s fault that Anthony wasn’t in love with her

I think what’s being missed here is that this isn’t a case of “Anthony could’ve grown to love Edwina,” because he clearly said he wasn’t interested in having love in his marriage because he didn’t want to risk loving someone and having them lose him and end up like Violet did after Edmund died where she gave up most of her interest in their family and he basically had to take on to e burden of his dad’s responsibilities and hers. Plus, Marina and Philip were sitting right there for the audience as a prime example of what a loveless marriage looks like. Philip married her out of sense of obligation to his brother and Marina accepted because he was the best she was gonna get after Pen outed her in S1. Now, they are both unhappy but committed to living with it. That’s not what Violet wanted for Anthony and it’s not what Kate wanted for Edwina, despite Danbury telling her that love matches in the ton were rare. Moreover, Anthony told Ed and everyone else in the room that while he could take care of her , he couldn’t give her what she wanted, which according to her and Kate was a love match. He basically gave her the choice to accept what he had to offer or not and she went for it anyway. So for her to turn around and call off the wedding because he “couldn’t give her what she wants” makes her look like she wasted her own time. So while she has a right to be upset with everyone involved, she also needs to take ownership of her part in this mess. She could have gone with the poetry dude that escorted her to the race and had a better chance at love with him than Anthony. But instead she got blinded by the title and the house in the country and ignored the fact that even though Anthony courted her for months, she still didn’t know him from a can of paint and he wasn’t particularly interested in getting to know her. They were about to get married and he still hadn’t asked her to call him Anthony. The red flags surrounding him were everywhere and she chose to ignore them. Ultimately this is a show about the rarity of true love and how it should be something to aspire to, not grin and bear it marriages which is exactly what Anthony and Edwina would have been. Sorry that this was a lot but it’s only because I couldn’t hold my tongue any longer lol.

Whistle down said Eloise was associating with political radicals because it’s less damaging than unchaperoned with a young man. This is enough to convince the queen it’s not Eloise writing but gives her room to come back. It was the only option she had. It’s a smart play for pen to make. It’s a bad situation.

Honestly, it's weird to me to watch a show about true love and then to see you actively root against it for the whole season 😅 It's a bit disconcerting, because you're clearly not even trying. I was surprised too about their take on this season and the Kate hate but I must agree with them too some point. When I look at it not from the "it's kate and anthony love story" point of view, the plot is really fd up. Anthony proposed to Edwina even though he had feelings for Kate,Kate is Edwina's sister who she supposedly love more than herself,yet they both make steamy eye contact,touching each other,almost kissing, Anthony professing his desire for her.. The only thing I disagree with them is their hate towards Kate but not for Anthony. They were both guilty in this,even more so, (if I dare to say) Kate was holding back her feelings more than Anthony did.

@@karolina285no one is saying that what Kate and Anthony did was right. But it's just great storytelling. They're both traumatized, and they're carrying that with them and making mistakes because of it. I greatly empathize with them, and I wish everyone would at least try to do so as well, or at least try to understand them, and not treat them (I mean Kate.....) as the literal devil everytime they so much as move the smallest toe.

Also bc of all the hate kate is getting from the show, in the books Edwina was interested in Anthony and they did go to the country but the part where the bee stung Kate, Anthony panics and starts sucking the venom out, they are caught being alone and in a questionable position and were forced to marry. Edwina was NOT MAD or UPSET about it at all & ended up finding a match with some other guy and Edwina was actually very happy & supportive of Kate & Anthony

Like it's categorically lazy writing... that book one and two they BOTH get caught in a compromising position and are forced to get married... So I totally get why they changed that plot point in the show...It was not a good one.

I read a detailed summary of the book series about Anthony and Kate, and it's a different setup from the Netflix series. In the book, Anthony and Edwina were never engaged. The first kiss between Anthony and Kate happened earlier. There was a bee sting with Kate, Anthony was helping her, and a group walked by "catching" in a compromising position. To protect Kate's reputation, Anthony declared his love for her so people would believe he was actually courting Kate instead of Edwina. Edwina was cool with it because she saw they like each other. Kate was insecure and worried that Anthony would never truly love her. Anthony is a little wishy washy at first, but eventually, they get on the same love page. For TV, I think Netflix and Shonda's version works better for TV because it shows the angst, the emotional conflict with the story for Anthony, Kate, and Edwina. If they followed the book, they conflict to get to love wouldn't be TV interesting but for a book, using the imagination and feelings from words, the book version is best for the book - if they makes sense 😊

I think the show also wanted to change things because that "caught in a compromised position and forced to marry" plot line... Literally ALSO happens in the first book and therefore the first season of the show.... It would be pretty lazy to have the exact same shit happening two seasons in a row... So it's understandable why they changed it.

Penelope was pretty much stuck in this.. The queen might have seemed generous in offering what she did to Eloise, but it's a ploy to get Lady Whistled own as her pawn essentially. She has the power to take her down if she doesn't comply. But Whistledown's influence (in the show) is only achieved from being cutthroat in her gossip. The drama of her sharp tongue taking people by surprise. So Whistedown actually can't do otherwise now. Eloise is caught in this with the silent threat of being taken down, so Pen does the only thing she can and makes it clear that Eloise is NOT Whistedown. Anything less damaging wouldn't have convinced the Queen. And you can tell that she did it with that intention, because she didn't make things worse by simply saying it was radicals rather than being with a single (working class) male alone in a questionable part of town. (Which would have truly ruined the family and Eloise all together.)

When it comes to both Penelope and Eloise . I understand both sides. I do think that Penelope’s intent was not meant to be malicious and mean and I do think that she resolved it in the best way possible that she thought she knew how to. I also think that people don’t seem to understand that there is no guarantee that the Queen would even believe her even if she were to come forward or better yet write it in the next whistledown column. Especially since after she threatened Eloise about being lady whistledown. If I were the queen I would’ve thought that it’s rather convenient and highly suspicious that after accuse and threaten Eloise that it comes out in the latest lady whistledown column that it’s actually Penelope someone who is close to Eloise.

I said it in another comment and I'll say it again: Penelope can agree to go into a room at the palace and write a fake gossip column. She can get the print shop guy to corroborate that she came in the guise of a maid with a fake Irish accent and made arrangements. She can have Mme. Delacroix corroborate that she saw Penelope on that side of town in maid's clothing. She can show the Queen all the money she has stashed. Instead she just says, very self-servingly, that the Queen will never believe her and _doesn't even try._ And the Queen is offering a pretty nice deal to Lady Whistledown, actually.

@@HuntingViolets she already gave her word to Madame Delacroix that she would not implicate or involve her in anyway. Another thing is even if she were to find another witness to corroborate her story. Which is a long shot for two reasons. One being that if she were to have someone be a witness to it that would implicate them into aiding and abetting a very notorious gossip writer that has caught the Queen’s attention some for the wrong reasons. Another being that Penelope went through great pains to disguise her voice and make sure no one saw her . Which worked until madame Delacroix obviously. Also anyone can make a fake gossip column it’s not that hard . Which the Queen probably knows. She’s not dumb. Also having money underneath your floorboards doesn’t automatically meant that you’re lady whistledown and it’s certainly not damming evidence either

@@kiana960 She would not be implicating Mme. Delacroix. Note I say that she could corroborate seeing Penelope on a side of town Mme. Delacroix would have a reason to go to but that Penelope would not. The print shop owner or manager saw and talked to her (no doubt on several occasions, and I mentioned the fake Irish accent), and there is no doubt he would recognize her. Not everyone could write a gossip column in Lady Whistledown's style. And where does teenage Penelope get this money if she is lying about getting it from the column? But it is not just one thing; it is the evidence of all or even a few of these things taken together. You think Charlotte would refuse to believe the evidence that someone who is also confessing brings because you prefer to think that. The fact remains that Penelope _could have tried_ and would have done so if she really cared enough about her friend. And for what? To avoid accepting the Queen's reasonable offer.

Writing the column would even be enough. *But Penelope doesn't try anything. The point is she chooses not to try and hurts her friend. Her go-to is to use Lady Whistledown to solve her problems, and that is a problem for other people, but **_it's a huge problem for Penelope herself._*

Penelope wrote the best thing she could for Eloise. It’s scandal but not ruinous, which saying about Theo would have been and Eloise put herself in the risky position of going there, so I didn’t think Penelope should have had to reveal herself and ruin herself and her business. I know you haven’t enjoyed this season, but I hope you’ll watch season 3. I think it’s really lovely so far.

Although (a small point) Charlotte is not the monarch. Even King George is not the monarch. The prince regent (future George IV) is ruling in his stead because the king is incapable. That's why this is the Regency era. If Penelope were really brave, she would go to the Queen and confess, I think.

Though I don't agree with the majority of your reactions to Kate, I must say it has been entertaining to watch you two. I think most Kate fans love her flaws. No one can justifiably say they think she is perfect or without fault. It just seems that Kate was never given grace the way most of the other characters like Penelope have been given. I'm so interested to see if by the end you will be happy or mad with how Kate's story ends or even if you think she is worthy of her ending.

A footman saw Eloise so the court staff know she's meeting with Theo and it would soon be out, and therein lies the problem. Eloise was unchaperoned, seen with a young man NOT of the Ton. There's no escape from scandal through marriage for Eloise. If it got out that Eloise was visiting *Theo*, it would not only have ruined Eloise forever but also Francesca and Hyacinth, even though they had no part in the debacle. It's probable that Pen wouldn't have been allowed to continue her friendship with Eloise nor Collin (and her dream about marrying Collin would have been completely dead). There were no convents to send Eloise to, but she would have been sent away in a similar fashion, shut away with very little contact with the outside world. If she dislikes the limits she has as a woman now, imagine such a banishment, what it would do to her. Eloise having connections with political radicals is not nearly as bad. It's not great, but it will pass as long as this connection is broken. It hadn't mattered if Pen had come clean as Whistledown, Eloise would have been in the shit anyway for her unchaperoned visits. It was the least damning thing Pen could have put on paper to explain away Theo and save Eloise from catastrophe.

The queen seemed to have wanted to work with LW and was excited about it, I hope we see that happen. Pen can convince her to let her keep writing the way she does. LW is the boogeyman that keeps the aristocrats in check, they behave because they never know who's watching. LW saved Daphne from getting married to that abusive pos so she has done some good.

See, the Queen would just reveal Whistledown and let everyone else seek their revenge unless Whistledown allies with her. All Whistledown has to do is play ball with the Queen. A very forgiving offer. Unfortunately, Eloise is not Whistledown.

What about when Penelope threw Marina under the bus (or carriage wheels) instead of just going to Violet, Anthony, or Eloise to let them know about her pregnancy instead of ruining her in the ton?

I can't believe Marina didn't figure out that Pen was LW after her secret came out. So few people knew about her pregnancy. I was disappointed when Pen did that.

@@garlantyrell6368 Violet didn't want Colin to marry Marina anyway, so the idea that she would reject it out of hand is really reaching. Eloise isn't going to think Penelope is lying. Anthony wants to stop the wedding too. She is paid attention to by the Bridgertons. She is practically another child. And Penelope's excuse can't be "No one would believe me, so I'm not going to try" over and over. She doesn't know no one will believe her. She just doesn't want to try.

After all, her own family treats her like shit her whole life 24/7 and don’t take her seriously at all. So of course she doesn’t feel like anyone else will believe her because of what her family says.

Just go to Charlotte and make the deal, Penelope. Mikel-Claire is right. Penelope can agree to go into a room at the palace and write a fake gossip column. She can get the print shop guy to corroborate that she came in the guise of a maid with a fake Irish accent and made arrangements. She can have Mme. Delacroix corroborate that she saw Penelope on that side of town in maid's clothing. She can show the Queen all the money she has stashed. Instead: Oh, the Queen might not believe me; I guess I won't try. She says herself she only has to work with the Queen. Screw Penelope.

Nah. Eloise is in the situation because she thinks she's above society's rules, despite multiple people telling her to stop for her own good. And Penelope has no way of knowing if the leniency being granted to a Bridgerton would be extended to a more scandal-ridden family.
