Oh absolutely! And I didn’t mean rescuer in a bad way. But we’ve also established Colin is a people pleaser. Of course he wants to take care of those he loves as any good partner does! But that part of his journey too is realizing he is worthy of love on his own, that he doesn’t have to “earn” it. Part of his journey is making sense of his place. There’s going to be a lot of levels at play exactly because of what you bring up; Thanks for mentioning that nuance!

@@bookishmelody Since the first season we have seen him looking for purpose. That why he wanted to wed Marina. So wanting to be an help to his lover is more with his purpose issue than his people pleaser issue

I think they’re connected not an either or. So tied back into that finding a sense of place in terms of what his place in the world is.

I agree with you, even though for the time and in their social class it was absolutely expected/customary for the man to completely provide for and “govern” his wife (for lack of a better term) - and his initial reaction to Penelope-as-Whistledown may incorporate this perspective briefly before he fully processes the situation - Colin is a good guy, he’s not so weak or shallow as to be intimidated by her financial success/independence. I suspect that Penelope is partly reacting in anger / lashing out just at the shock of being found-out - like she says in that other shot with Eloise, “Whistledown is power,” losing her anonymity would take that power away - and it’s her words to which he’s reacting. After suddenly realizing he loves her, they already have a deep connection having known each other & been friends for years, and what she says cuts deep. Like, “I thought you loved me… you don’t need me?” ☹️ At least, that’s just how it reads to me, obviously it’s just a short clip of a scene. In any case, we’ll get the whole context in a week.

in the book i thought it felt much more cruel than anything, which for shure with this setup will not come in. I think with Portia pressuring Pen into what she thinks an Ideal Wife does, he will soon recognize and confront her and i wo want to see it.

Like the fact that outing Marina pregnancy was her last resort because she tried to talk to everybody and didn't wanted to see Colin trapped in that wedding. For the people she loves she had tried everything she can do before using Whistledown for some sort of damage control. Maybe she was always did what was best, but she still a very young lady with no power outside her writing, mistake make people grown.

I agree. I can understand her wanting to keep that power. She's a young lady in a world where old men make the rules and women, and even more the young one have little to no power depending on their beauty, their money, or their father/husband power. And for most of the ton she have none of them. (Yes she made a good glow up but she still lack some charisma when chatting with people)

On the third of June, in the year 2024-precisely 10 days before season 4 part 2-Netflix released the final trailer for Bridgerton a show we love. It was, in a word, thrilling. The world shook. Our heart leaped. The moment was breathtaking. And, we were able to tell ourselves with some satisfaction, Polin fans-felt precisely the same way. 😏🐝🪶💎🪞🪭 🤣🤭

I’ve always found it odd I haven’t really gotten in to Bridgerton fanfic. Maybe because historically I use fanfic for non cannon ships or to expand on relationships I feel don’t get enough and-in theory- romances are a complete and satisfying emotional arc. And yet, you’ve got me here like “wait do *I* need to read Anthony/Penelope fanfic” 😂

@@melody_shmelody that was my exact thought too. There is tons of it. I read a few and was surprised at how good they were. They actually made me like this ship. Still not my favorite, but they were wholesome and cute in the fan fiction.

This is what I was thinking. I don't think Polin will fully wrap up this season at all....

That means so much; thank you! And absolutely! And a great observation! I love all the variations of love Bridgerton gives us, but a wallflower storyline is always gonna have a special place in my heart.

Also: I don’t think the Featheringtons’ scene doesn’t really fit the show because Portia is made to be a way more caring mother in the show than in the books. She still has faults but again and again it is portrayed to be out of a place of love and care. So I don’t think they would be able to nail the scene without destroying two seasons of character development for her.

I think it could have worked *if* Felicity still existed. As she doesn’t, it’s a moot point. But I love the payoff we’re seeing of Portia’s character development this season!

Violet and Pen’s hug definitely got me!

Oh absolutely a race against the clock for Whistledown, and I think a specific timing in the episode as well - but we’ll see the specifics!

I also think your prediction would be in the spirit of so many of the books. For so many of the books there are still issues to resolve after the alter and for season 2 they skipped over that/changed it. So your theory would keep with that.

Absolutely! And I think his conflicts, while being distinct from book Colin as you said, still feel close to those same inner conflicts from the book. I’ve really enjoyed how the honor the spirit of the book while telling their story, so I definitely more approach it as how the two are in conversation more than trying to be a purist. Excellent thoughts all around! And I know the Berkeley square dancing was a fave scene in our reread so that will be such a nice moment. I’m so excited to see how the second half of this season is going to be drawn. There’s a lot more action from the book to mine, and they also have so many creative directions they can take it!

I was always weary about a possible Cressida redemption arc. I could never fully believe it. You can blame upbringing or personality, but I’ve still always disliked her

Streamlining the narrative in terms of the number of people within the Featherington household when Felicity is more developed than Prudence or Phillipa-and knowing they wanted to expand Portia’s role-I would imagine. Additionally, without Felicity it cements Penelope as on a kind of island in her own household which ups her stakes and makes her motivations clearer. It will become a wrinkle come Hyacinth in terms of her having relationships outside her family but we’ve got a while to solve that one.

Absolutely think that could be in play! I was like 👀
