This remodel prototype was all wrong for JC Penney, it was a misguided attempt for the chain to think "outside the box" in terms of merchandising and pricing strategy and it backfired. Long time JC Penney customers were accustomed to a more traditional department store format and were not receptive to the polished concrete floors, along with the "store within a store" merchandise presentation. I have been to other JC Penney stores that have returned to a more traditional department store format that borrows on some of the features of Kohl's with shopping carts and centralized check out areas. With the impending demise of Sears, I think the future is actually looking better for JC Penney. They continue to differentiate themselves nicely in their store formats and merchandise mix. Company needs a more cohesive brand strategy, though, and past mismanagement has resulted in numerous store closings, further eroding their brand visibility.
This is older than dirt since they don't carry Martha Stewart any longer. This is old they don't even carry some of the things any longer like Happy Chic as well. This video needs to be yanked it is old from when Ron Johnson was CEO.
