What a rare and wonderful find. I remember when this revival was playing; I missed it, and regretted it.

Thanks for posting! I played Harry Beaton in high school, although our production simplified the choreography... later I saw this revival on Broadway and John Curry (ice skater!) did a great job, as did the rest of the cast. At Adelphi U in Long Island NY I went to college and met Edward Villella, who had been in the tv production. Then years later when I operated the carousel in Central Park I met James Mitchell, from the original Broadway cast. I’ve always loved this musical’s story and songs, as well as “Carousel”... (my high school did that too!)...they’re both musicals with a lot of depth, substance, philosophy and emotionally universal themes.

Anthony Simpson anygoround Hi Anthony....I am also from Long Island and I performed in my high school production of Brigadoon as well.....I was only a townsperson but our leads were amazing! I still perform when I can....Ive already did productions of Les Mis, Jekyll and Hyde, Annie, Urinetown and The Producers....I am originally from Oceanside.....I know Adelphi U as well.

I was in the chorus when Glenn Close did this in college. Even then, you could see.

I was in a high school production of Brigadoon in 1978. Not up to Broadway standards of course, but very well received by our audiences and we were all proud of it. Hearing those wonderful songs and dialogue again really takes me back. Thanks so much for posting🙂.

Wonderful production, beautiful score! But what happened to the vocal portion of "My Mother's Wedding Day"? I believe one its dance is included here. Great show nonetheless. Ms.Bussert ia excellent!

Thank you for posting this. This was my first Broadway show, I played Sandy Dean. I was very proud of the production and it was a lovely cast of actors, singers, and dancers.

This is such an underappreciated musical! I was in a production of Brigadoon back in 2009 in Theatre School. Such a charming and magical show!

Wow, I just love this show: the music, the story, everything. Hoping to play Tommy one day. There are a lot of great baritone roles in golden age musical theater but few that are quite as beautiful, light, and "sweet" while simultaneously meaningful and complex as Tommy. That being said, they seemed to have raised a few keys in this production for Mr. Vidnovic? Perhaps he was a higher baritone or maybe a bari-tenor?

HAUNTS: I played Tommy in a regional production. You are right - it's a bari-tenor role. Tops out at a C5 , Low B. However, I don't have a C, and I don't recall having to sing that high.
@hauntsandamusements
@hauntsandamusements 3 года назад
@@vinnieviddivicci5459 Tommy definitely doesn’t have to sing a C5 in chest. I believe he very briefly sings a high F#. Maybe in falsetto somewhere?
@vinnieviddivicci5459
@vinnieviddivicci5459 3 года назад
@@hauntsandamusements - I'm trying to think. An F is possible. I top out at a G usually, although when I sang Che in "Evita" he went up to A#. Anyway, I just can't think which song Tommy sings that high. "There but for You" maybe?
@hauntsandamusements
@hauntsandamusements 3 года назад
@@vinnieviddivicci5459 I honestly think whatever lists him as going up to a C5 is a mistake. The F sharp is the harmony with Fiona in Almost Like Being in Love. There But for You Go I only goes up to an E in the original key.

@@hauntsandamusements- You have to be right. It's been some time since I was in that show, and I just don't remember it being a stretch for me vocally.

This was one of the first shows I saw when I moved to New York. ("On the 20th Century" was the first.) It was directed by Vivian Matalon, who was a hot director just coming off the wonderful "Morning's at Seven" revival, and he brought out all the sincerity and conviction it required. Vidnovic was terrific, Bussert was extraordinary--Frank Rich wrote, "one really wonders if Broadway has seen anything like her since Barbara Cook and Mary Martin in the '50s." Watch how she BELIEVES in what she's playing, and the radiance it spreads. It was a cherished memory, and how surprised and grateful I am to find it here. Thank you so very much.

This wonderful(Stage) Musical suffers from people's impressions of it (In whatever production)due to what Gene Kelly did to it in the movie version.He cut nearly half of the songs,and much of the music that was cut were used for the extended dance sequences.So people expect the stage version to be more dancing,and less singing. If you only knew the movie version then that might be fine but then the movie version is NOT Brigadoon.

This was a wonderful production of this Lerner-Loewe classic that was sadly neglected by audiences. But it had terrific leads in Meg Bussert and Martin Vidnovic, wonderful scenery and costumes, and no less than Agnes DeMille personally restaging her classic choreography. And oh, something else -a REAL ORCHESTRA. So enjoy this example of Great Classic Broadway.

Damien, thanks to you I'm reliving such happy memories! My parents took me to this for my 15th birthday, my third B'way show (still have the Playbill). It is exactly as I remember, Elaine Hausman is as obnoxious as ever, God love her! Over the years, I've gotten to meet a few cast members, Mr. Vidnovic, Kenneth Kantor, the extraordinary Jack Dabdoub. Life has been made somewhat better tonight.

I saw a wonderful production of "Brigadoon" at London's, Victoria Palace Theatre in 1988, which has always remained in my mind... I subsequently saw the film version on television, which was dreadful, simply because it lost its charm, whereupon several songs, to its detriment, had been "cut' from the movie. Just listen to the music and wonderful lyrics of Meg Brockie's two "cut" numbers... "The Love of My Life" and My Mother's Wedding Day... Wonderful theatre.

Thank you so much for posting this! This is one of the most charming musicals ever to be created, and a favorite of mine. It is so enchanting, and I think it brings hope to the weary and restless-- hope that there is a "Brigadoon" for them somewhere in the world. The dancing, singing, costumes, scenery-- all superb in this production. Revival, where you at??

I can't help but have warm feelings for this show! It was my first staring role in a non- children's theatre show, with one of the funnest casts I have ever worked with! So I am a little biased, hehe

Wish the quality wasn't so poor as it would be nice to see this as it was meant to be seen, not as the very poor job Hollywood did under Gene Kelly with exaggerated dance routines. Though what do you expect in any vehicle he was in. I play organ and piano so I wondered where all the sheet music numbers that are associated with this show had disappeared to when I saw the film. Simply cut, I wonder who made that decision.

Considering it's technology from over 40 years ago, I'm surprised the quality is that good. Was this a professional recording or done by an audience member? If the latter, how the hell did they get a 1980s video camera in there?
