My 24hp B&S from their instructions says tighten them 1/3, then to 2/3 then to final torque in sequential order to 325 inch pounds. Or divide by 12 for 27 foot pounds or 37Nm. Sequential order is; (With cylinders at 11 & 1 o'Clock) Bolt positions with the Bolt in center of each cylinder represents #9 at 12 o'clock and #10 at 6 o'Clock. Bolts 1 & 2 being located at 9 & 3 o'clock Bolts 3 & 4 below bolts 1 & 2 Bolts 5 & 6 above bolts 1 & 2 or just below #9 bolt Bolts 7 & 8 are left and right of bolt 10 at 6 o'clock. Instructions also state Not to re-use the bolts. Gasket and Bolts kit part# 594195 Crank Seal Part# 795387 PTO side. Make sure you check model# on valve cover. First four number on the "Code" represent Year/Month. Make sure you purchase the parts to the Model and Year of the engine manufactured, as parts were changed or re-designed of a specific year model engine made and the reason why it needs to go by the specific "Code" date.
It's 10 years later and these motors still have this issue, mine just failed with less than 100 hours. They call it the "extended life series" what a joke, what the heck I thought Briggs and Stratton we're supposed to be reliable.
I thought I finally found the video to put that little assembly together on the engine, nope looks like you skipped right over that part with a before and after, the search continues thanks
Thanks for the video. The governor in my motor exploded and your video pointed me in the right direction for the repair. I replace the governor gear and reassembled, and it immediately rev'd to max and blew up the flyweights again. Does the orientation of the gear make any difference? I don't see any alignment marks.
@@bvanos01 I order more parts, took my time and replaced it again and it worked fine. The motor is still running. Been a while so I don't remember all the details, but I don't remember doing anything different from the first attempt. sorry, not much help.
THanks for the instruction, clear and easy. Question my governor has a metal ring that fits ont othe shaft where the cap goes on? cannot remember which goes first? can you? Also did yuo find the right torque?
I know this is an old video, but for anyone with this same question, the ring sits on top of the gear, and below the cup. You put them all on at the same time. Put the ring on top of the gear, and place the cup in position, making sure that lip of the cup is on top of the feet on the fly weights. You put the whole assembly on the shaft as one unit, and the ring will lock into a groove on the shaft. The ring only holds it enough to keep it from falling off. What actually keeps it from coming apart is the paddle on the governor shaft. It's extremely important to set the governor arm correctly when you reassemble it, or you can end up with catastrophic failure.
whats to keep cup and all from coming off I need the little ring that goes in between the cap and the gear but you have to order the the cup and the gear to get the ring
I got a 18.5 hp BS Intek V twin with governor problems that it just revs. So amount of time to replace the governor from start to put back into operation on the lawn tractor is there if you know? Also parts cost what would a person be needing for parts and cost. I have one that I not sure if I can handle and trying to figure out what I could or should do...Thanks.....
Thanks I see at Sears the governor part is $25, but also with the additional gaskets/seals would be more. I was trying to get an idea of repair cost from local shops, and one said need to see/hear, not sure what all might have let go without opening up which makes sense, but another indicate with parts the job would cost about $150 which is low and not sure if the person knows about repair stating about 3/4 job to do plus the parts, yet still need to trailer over to look/hear the engine. So with shop rates and parts likely the person owe owns lawn tractor would want to pay the likely cost of repair. Thanks this is what I had thought it might be but wanted to hear from someone that actually worked on one to and get a realistic idea. Any other ideas if it might be more than a possible governor replacement when this happens to start up and rev like this. Thanks.....
