Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.
I have the largest Small Engine Repair Video Library on RU-vid and the entire internet with over 1200 videos, just GOOGLE "DONYBOY73"!

You could “sweat fit” the valve seat in by heating the head in an oven or bbq grill, and chilling the seat with dry ice or regular ice. It should then just drop in. I would still peen the metal over to lock it in place. Nice video !!
@slipshaft

That seems a bit extreme! No problem with cracking the head or breaking the valve seat? I put the valve seat (ring) in the freezer for a few minutes and used a propane torch around the exhaust valve area.

Exceptionally clear video on valve adjustment-- an area most engine repair videos do not even attempt. Not only did you show the problem condition, but exactly how to adjust the valves and lap them properly. As a bonus, I discovered I do not need a valve spring compressor or other sophisticated tools. This video covered a woefully overlooked area in our developing knowledge of small engine mechanics, and without your careful, explicit instruction, many of us would remain in the dark.

Great video. It may be helpful to some viewers to know that the "silver" push rods are aluminum and typically found in the intake. They don't get as hot. The exhaust push rod is typically steel to deal with higher heat. I use a small rubber hammer and the valve itself to reinstall the seat. I think that gives better distribution of the blow from the hammer. I do like your idea of using a center punch to secure the seat in place. Thanks for taking the time to make this EXCELLENT video.

I enjoy watching you work! My first repair was a helicoil on a 1950s 2 stroke HD head back in the mid 1960s and my hobby and livelihood is anything to do with tools. I picked up quite a bit watching your techniques. See there you can teach an old dog new tricks, if he will just watch and listen Thank you for time you spend at this.

WOW! I am very happy I found this video. I have a 1978 Wheel Horse D200 with a Kohler K532 engine. It's been running great until about one month ago. While removing snow with the snowthrower on the front it suddenly lost power. I was able to park it in the shed. A week later I found zero compression in one cylinder. I feared a possible broken connecting rod, or possibly a broken valve spring. I never considered a valve seat like this. The engine turns over easily so I'm going to investigate the valve issue first. This video is the perfect instruction for this repair......I just pray it's this and not the rod. Thank you!

Wouldn't start, turns over easy. Just like my Kohler K241AQS engine. I also had lots of blow by in the crankcase. Almost was blowing the dip stick out. Broke down engine for rebuild and found the exhaust valve has been leaking. Rings are warn with end gap almost 1/4 inch, but no ridge at the top of the cylinder wall. Going back together with standard size parts and new valves which will be lapped in. Your video is spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Good video, one very important note: This engine comes equipped with a compression release on the cam, the valve adjustment needs to be performed with the piston 1/4" past TDC on the compression stroke for the release to perform properly. The starting circuit is not strong enough to bleed off the full compression on the cylinder during cranking speeds. Lots of starters and batteries are mistakenly replaced due to this procedure being overlooked. If an Intek of this style is locking during cranking, follow the valve adjustment procedure with the piston in the proper position. This series is notorious for either spinning too freely (lash too tight) or locking (lash too loose) during cranking, the proper valve adjustment is critical.

I have a B&S 331877-0036-G1, I see the same thing in the B&S repair guides to adjust at 1/4 past TDC. I've read mixed results on the technique. Many people say Don's method always works while other people have problems doing as B&S recommends. I'm working on my mower now and not sure which approach to do.

We were taught in military maintenance school to torque 3x. If final value was 90 ft lb the 1st torque = 30#, 2nd = 60#, 3rd = 90#. Sequence was the same, start in center, crisscross, work toward outer edges so metal stress movement wasn't impeded by an already torqued fastener.
