Great review! I wish pd400x had a bit less pierce in high frequencies - it would be perfect! I have to use deesser and it helps, but I wish it had some sort of high shelf control eq setting in app. But the clarity of its mid and lows is impeccable. Have to admit, though, I am very sibilant speaker
Too big and obtrusive. Microphones don't have to big physically to produce big sound--Shure PGA81 is small but big in sound. Thanks for the review, enjoyed watching you, as always. Thanks.
I did a review as well on my channel and think it's a killer deal at $149. I am selling my RE20 and using the EM99B moving forward. It needs no EQ, just a little compression.
I watched your review, Great video. I’m sentimental towards the RE20 as it was the mic that I started radio in over 20 years ago. I agree and Love how close this gets me with so little effort to that sound at a fraction of the price!!
Mike,...just curious....as a follow up. Are you still using the EM99B, is it in your rotation or did it just vanish back into the box and back into some dusty corner of obscurity? Its a very solid mic but as is the case with most reviewers, mics usually get pushed aside pretty quickly making room for the next shiny new one on the block. I just wanted to follow up since you seem like an honest guy who will at least provide an honest update.
It is my go to bright mic. The mics you see in my background in my videos are the ones in my rotation. The rest are in a box only for comparisons. Definitely still my favorite dynamic bright mic. 👍🏻
@@levelupwithmikenewman Thanks for the follow up. Please note though, as I'm sure you may have picked up on my sarcasm...it was NOT aimed at you Mike. I just know that back when I was just trying to navigate these muddy waters of microphone choices, it always frustrated me when some youtuber or so called "expert" would review a mic,...sing its praises,...swear its better than or as good as what they currently have but a week later they are using their same mic. As a beginner trying to make a wise purchasing choice on a limited budget, that is sooooo confusing to see and understand. It too drove me nuts back then. Conversely, what I really find appealing years later is seeing someone like you who level sets with their viewers as to the exact intent of their episode or review from the beginning. You may just be testing mics or products "for all to see" and they can perhaps learn what choices they have at the different price points. Plus you do not come across as Mr. Know it All but more like a guy who has been around the block with this whole audio/video thing and you understand that we all had to start from ground zero with this stuff. You never forget that your subscribers are coming at you from various levels of experience and understanding. Thanks!
Great review, as always. Are you still enamored with this mic? I just picked this one up after noticing that it was $45 off the regular price. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to record the next episode of my podcast with this mic, combined with the Rodecaster Duo, and evaluate from there. I'm secretly hoping that since Røde recently acquired Mackey they'll add a sound profile setting for this mic in the Rodecaster Pro II and Duo. But if they don't, I'm going to use the Podmic USB profile as my starting point and see how that sounds.
I tried looking up the Desk mic stand that comes with this mic, but I can not find it anywhere. I am on the tall side at 6' 1" so the standard desk mic stands are a waste for me. Do you know if we can get the desk stand by itself from Mackie?
Another great comparison video Mike. The Mackie does seem a little bright. Still a fan of the Maono PD400X. A little fuller and deeper, for me. PS. I'm a pineapple on Pizza 😂
