Thank you for sharing your testing both near and far from the wall. I just bought an almost identical product and was trying to figure out where to place them. This certainly helped. Thanks again.

Thank you for the video. I definitely prefer the track look vs the govee stick on lights. I ordered tracks and lights from a seller on aliexpress that I am waiting for to use with my diguno controller. I think I ordered them with 5 LEDs/m to save some money but I also didn't think I needed a high density of lights. I appreciate your demonstration, helps me be better prepared for when they arrive and I end up installing them in the snow...

They don’t supply end caps. The best practice is to make them with scrap channels.

This is Excellent! You answered questions I've had for 2 years! I chose white vinyl siding specifically so I could change house colors at night. Now I know I want them as far away from the house as possible. A question; would angling them about 20 - 30 degrees 'light up' the house better?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
Angling them would greatly complicate the installation and the lights wouldn’t be visible from the street. I wouldn’t.

VCC (Voltage Common Collector) is the higher voltage with respect to GND (ground). VCC is the power input of a device. It may be positive or negative with respect to GND. When the only positive power supply is used then VSS (Voltage Source Supply) means ground or zero.

Another great video, thank you. I see they sell a warm white and a cool white. Their site says that the cool white can be made to look warm, but I'm guessing the warm cannot be made to look cool. With that said is there any reason to buy the warm instead of the cool?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
I assume cool can be made to look warm by adding yellow. I suppose warm could look cooler by adding blue. I personally prefer pure warm white for accent lighting so that’s what I would get. If I ever need cool white, I’d use RGB to make it.

I have a two story home with a couple of triangles for the upstairs roofline, is there a way to do a Y configuration to do the full triangle? Thanks!
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
Watch this about the limitations of a Y connector: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zhqqC9orh0s.html I don’t recommend splitting the data signal. It would be better to double back so they are connected end to end. Then you can easily create individual segments in WLED to animate them exactly how you want.

Hey. Quick question, my Fascia hangs over my soffits at different lengths. I am going to make it all uniform this week. What is the suggested distance that the fascia overhangs for the optimal look of the lights? (What is max distance between where your tracks sit and the fascia covers them?)
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
These lights don’t have a specific spacing requirement like Govee. The best practice is to hang them towards the outer edge of your soffit to make them less visible. It doesn’t matter how far they are from the house.

Where would the power injection wire come from? (The controller or another source). Also, power injection wire would be ran through the channel starting at the beginning?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
The best practice is to run a parallel wire from the controller for power injection.

I liked your far-and-near-to-wall holding tests. Have you tried far-mounting with a Govee set, while also tilting the lights to face partially toward the house? Say around 20 or 40 degrees. I think that might get rid of the scalloped shadow effect while still enabling spreading the colors further down the wall, but I don't own any to try (yet). Thanks!

I got a question! I recently moved into a new house and there's a duel light swith in the basement hallway. Top light switch runs the entrance light and the bottom runs the actual basement lights. The top switch keeps tripping the breaker? So i traced it all out today and they have a wire coming from a basement outlet running to a junction box. Then out of the junction box it goes to that light swith at the entrance and the other wire coming from the junction box goes to the entrance light. They have all 3 hots wire nutted all 3 neutrals wire nutted and of course the 3 grounds wire nutted.
@Kember138
@Kember138 7 месяцев назад
My ? Is how do you wire this in the junction box so it doesn't trip the breaker? Thanks in advance
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
If the breaker trips when you turn on that switch, you have a short downstream from the switch. The source of power doesn’t matter. Focus your attention on the switch leg and the devices it powers.

1) 12v for barrel but what amp? 2) What’s the longest for data, 150ft? What about max distance between jumps/extensions. I need to know if I can wire both stories linearly or if I need 2 segments. If a data booster is needed, do you have a recommendation? 3) The controller you used can support 2 segments? What about the BrightHome controller, looks like 4? 4) Is the controller Ethernet only? If so, do you have a Wi-Fi recommendation?
@handydadtv
@handydadtv 7 месяцев назад
1. Ignore my demo setup. It was a power supply from an external hard drive. Enough power for demo, but that’s it. 2. For design advice, I recommend posting pictures to Reddit /r/WLED. I don’t know of a max data length, but I recommend a booster before every extension. My preference is handydad.tv/famp with the X-Connect ends. 3. The photo of their controller is a Dig-Quad which has 4 channels. 4. They only mention WiFi controllers. I know the Dig-Quad is available with Ethernet but you might need to do that custom.

@Ruthlessbone
@Ruthlessbone 7 месяцев назад
@handydadtv do you have a video on that? Also, do you cut them to specific length and closed the open end so water won't damage the inside of the line?

@Ruthlessbone This video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7hAfBb0e5Z8.html shows my setup from last year. Not permanent lights, but WLED doesn’t care. I’m waiting to hear back from the vendor to see if end caps are available, but that’s just for esthetics and to keep wasps out, not for weather. The strings and connectors are waterproof. You will definitely need to cut them to fit specific spaces and you’ll need to provide waterproof splices. If you cut the very end and don’t need a splice, you can seal the ends with hot glue.

I was a installer of everlights “permanent lights”(trained by everlights). ***do not install**** Their lights are made like cheap garbage. I also have experience working with c9 seasonal lights. The c9 lights that are temporary lasted longer than everlights. Within a couple weeks. Bulbs would burn up. I mean literally burn 🔥. Not just “burn out”. Our company dropped them after only a few installs because we made no money fixing them all of the time. Still doing warranty calls even after firing them.
