London 1818: a secret love affair begins between 23 year old English poet, John Keats, and the girl next door, Fanny Brawne, an outspoken student of fashion.
This unlikely pair started at odds; he thinking her a stylish minx, she unimpressed by literature in general.
It was the illness of Keatss younger brother that drew them together. Keats was touched by Fannys efforts to help and agreed to teach her poetry.
By the time Fannys alarmed mother and Keatss best friend Brown realised their attachment, the relationship had an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and helplessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers were swept into powerful new sensations, I have the feeling as if I were dissolving, Keats wrote to her. Together they rode a wave of romantic obsession that deepened as their troubles mounted. Only Keatss illness proved insurmountable.

I have started a tradition of watching this every autumn; such an amazing heartbreaking film and I still have no idea how Jane Campion managed to pull this off without it being cloying or overwrought. I just love it.

Can you believe me if I tell you yesterday night, after watching this movie, I decided to do something similar?😊 It's just so beautiful and mesmerising! Like Keats's work.

This movie is a brilliant study in texture, which has the curious result that one does not merely watch shadows from a bygone era, but re-lives the love and heart break of two living creatures that are trying to create a future for themselves. Alas ...

Why can't we bring back the 18th century fashion to the western society? 18th century , the Jane Austen and other contemporary people's characters' clothings were more fashionable, and reflected modesty as well !!!!!. Nowadays, people dress like clowns.

Women were also oppressed and forced to wear corsets and long skirts to cover themselves up... the womens vote and suffragette movement was only just coming into the question in places like France. Sure the clothing may look nice, and who is to say we can't wear it in today's society... But for you to put it on a pedestal for being "modest" I beg to differ. Modesty has no such thing to do with the length of a skirt or the amount of makeup.

@@cole3145 whilst your opinion is valid, might I add that corsets weren't oppressive, nor was anyone forced to wear them - they were simply the clothing of the time period. As you know them, bras weren't a thing yet, and corsets provided support for the spine as well as for the bust.
