Where?? Where did you get your fcs degree? I know it's only fully certified in Sacramento and a Cal State Long Beach in California. I went to CSULB so maybe you went there? LOL that'll teach family consumer science now though. But we're everywhere so many fields
I wish I could’ve been taught FCS, but my school focused me so much on academics and preparing for college I didn’t have time to prepare for domestic life and had to learn them myself
My schools didn't teach us anything about real life. I went out into the world and didn't even know how to fry an egg, I wasted so much money on pointless stuff like frozen tv dinners 3 times a day everyday, and I never got a career like my school was pushing us to do. I ended up becoming a mom at 19 years old and had no idea what I was doing when it came to house and home. I'm 28 now, can cook a decent varity of meals (thank goodness for google), much better at grocery shopping (I spend $50 a week on groceries for a family of 3), but I have no idea what it takes to sew clothing, buy a house, I screwed up my credit so badly I have little to no options on fixing it, I can't even open a regular checking account because of my poor money management skills in the past that came from my school not teaching us that stuff, and I have yet to still figure out what equals 'Y' while in the grocery store lol (wisecrack at pointless algebra)..... I literally don't use anything I learned in school except for a few science facts, some basic math, reading, and writing. I feel like my life was ruined before it even started and I had no say in it. My mother couldn't teach me anything because she was constantly working and raising me as a single mother. What was the education board thinking when they decided to take out home economics? There is an entire generation (mine) that is clueless in life and are most likely going to fail. No wonder a lot of them go bankrupt and/or turn to criminal activity. I wish there was a home economics course for adults so they can still learn that stuff. It's not "housewife work" it's everybody's work, it's survival, it's life, it's adulting for crying out loud.
It's adulting and it's culture. Turns out, home ec and gym were the two most important classes for having a good life. Good food, a nice home, and good health.
Thank you for highlighting FCS i loved this major so much and its so useful everyone should know we are here to help....here to educate prevention....BEFORE the fire that's what we are here for :) note: all family consumer science majors DO NOT become teachers; because there's so many substances areas in fcs, we typically float into many career fields.
