I picked up this RARE 1979 Kawasaki KX125 A5 at a swap meet earlier this year. After hunting down some parts, and cleaning the dirt off of it, I couldn't stop until this bike looked restored...
That bike is a keeper! Great video. The older bikes seem to be so much better than dropping $10,000 on a new one..I don't mind turning wrenches either! Nice find!
400 I’d be all over that what a score I’ve come across a few but they commanded big money, $1000 would have been a good price then a complete disassembly and restoration with an occasional ride I would be thrilled.
Sadly, the bike was not maintained properly in the past which is par for the course. I could see that the motor mount bolts have come loose in the past and the bosses the bolts pass through are in really bad shape. The bike is going to vibrate like crazy. The KDX175 engine uses these exact same cases. The pn is the same. There are lots of dead 175s out there so you could source a set of cases from a KDX donor. Check the parts books to see what year KDX cases will work. It may be that only the 1980 ones will work or maybe it’s 80 and 81. Somewhere along the way Kawasaki updated the engine to use the swing arm pivot as the rear motor mount.
