Brion Stoutarm Commander Deck Tech

Gift of Immortality on Yosei is my favorite way to finish a game. Just think, Brion grabs Yosei by the tail and beats his opponent repeatedly with the morning star.

You don't just chuck Doom Engine. You swing with it, THEN chuck it.

im going to give a mini deck tech for my brion deck. i have bloodshot cyclops as it is what led me to brion, it also gives redundancy if brion is down. war elemental, and sunscorch regent can grow as you play creatures, jotun grunt is a 4/4 for 2 and can put some of your cards back into your library. custodi soulbinders can come in really huge if your opponents have lots of creatures. if you need a quick big creature, you can pay life for immolating souleater. ghostly prison can help keep yo alive. if brion is down, then iroas can let you attack with all your high power creatures without worry, and potentially become a big creature too. thornbite staff untaps brion. illusionists bracers copies brion's ability and lets you throw something twice for free. thirsting axe can buff a creature before you fling. sunbond can help grow creatures.rhox faithmender is a nice blocker, and doubles the life you gain (although damage doubling effects will also double the life you gain from brion) finally treasonous ogre can let you turn some life into red mana, and neheb, the eternal can give you tons of mana when you use brion.

I have a really similar build, although I went deeper with the reanimator package. I’ve the Faithless Looting, Tormenting Voice, Cathartic Reunion and Wild Guess package, and apart from the creatures that help reanimate stuff, I have Resurrection, Breath of Life and Miracolous Recovery. Even Goblin Welder for our artifact monsters. That way we can cheat some of the big stuff earlier for Brion to feed or just to hit our opponent hard. I love this deck. Good job with the deck tech explaining the shortcomings and the good stuff about Brion.

I wasn't sold on Brion at the start of the video but I definitely am now. This looks like a ton of fun to play. Thanks for the video and all the ideas for building around Brion. Very cool!

So he is the Boros version of Jarad. Equip him with Grafted Exoskeleton just for fun.

Thanks for the ideas. Brion was what got me into commander, but I couldn't get him to work either. Now it's one of my most fun to play.

This was also my first commander deck, and he's still really fun! I noticed you don't mention much about his lifelink ability. I use a lot of the same cards that you mentioned like the ones that have extra effects when they die, but I love Angelic Accord and Crested Sunmare to give you tokens that you can fling repeatedly with the life gain effect. If you can get at least 1 token with either of these cards, you can infinitely fling a token and replace it with a new one because you're gaining life. Captivating Crew is also an awesome card to allow you to take control of an opponent's creature over and over.

I absolutely love your deck techs. Even if i'm not interested in the deck that you are doing, hearing your thought processes as you go through the video has helped me with my decks. Keep up the great work!!!!!

Yessssss. Any time I build a commander deck, I'm always looking for as much flexibility as I can wring out of it. I've had my eye on Brion, but also this video, and I'm extra excited to try my hand at Brion.

Axguard Armory is a great land to play in this deck with gift of immortality. I also like to use Umbra Mantle in this deck so I have the ability to use Brion more than once a turn.

City of Shadows would be an insane adition to this deck, little more expensive than the other utility lands mentioned in the video (but nowhere near the insane highs that things like Diamond Valley reach in price) but worth every dollar as it acts as an effective removal while having the benefict of giving you the much needed extra mana that the Boros decks could always use.

I'm glad to say that my brion deck leans very closely to yours now. I do have some more focus on recurring my own creatures than stealing others (though captivating crew is an all-star). Sun titan is great all around, especially if you copy him or recur him. BIIIIGGGGG mention to strengthen up Boros here is also Well of lost dreams: straight up massive card draw with brion's life gain. I generally found that I put in a ton of value to interact with my commander, then found out at a later date that I had a ton of win-combos in it from how the cards themselves interacted. I've locked out people with gift of immortality yosei, I've done the kikijiki zealous conscript (which I didn't know of when I put them both in the deck), I've chandra's ignitioned a malignus with a damage doubler on the field, etc. My favourite moment with this deck ever was when I realised I had had an infinite combo on my board... for 2 turns already. Sun titan, goblin bombardment and Angelic renewal. They managed to stall it for 2 more turns but thanks to sun titan and angelic renewal, every piece they removed just came back later that turn.

I always wanted to try this deck out but never gave it a second thought. I have most of the pieces to do now after breaking down my feldon deck. Thank you for your insight on this Commander. Time to pick up my copy of braon this weekend.

Man...when I saw Masters 25 spoilers and this card, I thought...wow, this is a Boros commander I would actually be interested in making. And I generally hate Boros decks..I'm so glad you made this cause this deck looks as fun as I imagined it would be. This might be my next one!

Awesome suggestion! I actually win pretty often with my brion stoutarm deck, but always really on the edge XD. Besides, in Dominaria FINALLY we're getting the boros commander everyone was waiting for!

I lived the dream back in 2011. I have Brion Stoutarm in my Zedruu deck. I cast Reins of Power, then played Brand. I attacked with everything, then I used Brion Stoutarm to fling his Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter to my opponent's face. : ) I won that game. lol

Brion is one of the most fun commanders you can play.

Brion was my first commander and i had exactly the same problem with my deck :D

He is originally from good old Lorwyn. And he has life link so the sacrifice creature ability also gains you life.

This was my first commander deck I made, I played pretty much mono ball lightning and threaten cards

I pretty much have the same problem with my Experiment Kraj deck. It's the first rare I owned, and the first Commander deck I built, and I want so much to love it. But just like you did, I'm pretty sure I'm building it too narrow. Sure there's a bunch of situational activated abilities and +1/+1 synergies, but it doesn't exactly click together unless my boy Kraj is there to smoosh it all together into one big silly purple ooze-thing. I should probably go back and take another look at it now :)

2 things 1 Boros can in commander be super oppressive if built right, Armageddon, Ruination, that leovold cat and one of my favourite example pain of glory and blood feud. 2 brion stoutarm is one of the few boros commanders that are actally playable just becuase he isnt all about the combat phase.

Brion also loves Quietus Spike I've heard, not matter how big the fling, that hurts.

Boros may be a curse but it has the best charm! Great tech, showing this to my friend playing Brion - can't want to watch a 20+ life total swing and lose a creature :') PS: Marshalls anthem is a great graveyard recursion in white plus you get a small boon.

When you play Brion, all you have to do is yell YEET at the top of your lungs while yeeting things at your enemy.

Great thing about having creatures in this deck is you can throw the crappy downside monsters in it if you want to...to fling. My Krenko flings Goblins it makes to either kill a creature I hate (Bombardment)...or kill someone else. I know its not really a "good card" for a Krenko deck but I like it.

I think I'd rather go with a heavier equipment package. Grafted Exoskeleton for Brion; Boots & Greaves are easier to find. Living Weapon Germs are good sac targets, along w/ cheap repeatable token generators, then slapping Bonesplitter, Grafted Wargear. etc. This theme would protect Brion better, plus Sword of the Animist, Explorerer's Scope, and other cheap "Land tax" creatures. I'd run a few repeatable threatens, but wouldn't rely on it. I tried something similar to good effect w/ Yasova.

What about adding a Phyrexian Dreadnought? For 1 and red you deal 12 damage and gain 12 life.. can't really beat that.

What do you think about an animar deck with an eldrazi theme?

cutting avatar is wrong, you need to just play more ramp, it's not a normal boros deck you have to play it as a midrange deck. 7 mana shouldn't be a problem with a general that cost 4, since you need to beable to cast him at least 3 times.
