I had a fairly productive day of filming on this day, walked about 20km according to my phone and I can still slightly feel it in my upper legs now, but it was worth it. The weather was crap for most of the morning as you can probably see, constant showers coming in from the east but towards midday it fined up to the usual hot and humid Brisbane summers day. I have been waiting for my regular driver Ben to be in 715 as I haven't gotten him on film or met him yet, but have heard is a cool bloke. I noticed that 715 normally does the street at the end of my street at 5:30 and then shoots up to the other side of his run and finishes the day around my street. But I noticed that the run was being done differently again and figured another driver must be in 715 again this week. I walked around for a while with no luck and then sometime around 6-6:30 I heard recycling bins in the next street being emptied and I thought it was an odd time for 806 to be doing this area, normally he does it much later in the day. So I rushed to the and to my surprise one of the Single Pass trucks was picking up the recycling bins, I had a quick chat to the driver and he was pretty cool but said he was just surveying and emptying different bins for the council. Boy did it bring back memories, but I know where to film them now and they do both green waste and recycling pickups out in the rural parts of the council.
Anyway I walked around for a bit and found 806 so I got some videos of him down near the shops and when he was ready to head to Visy I went on a mission to fine 715, I walked up another couple of suburbs and eventually found him and also saw 709 drive past me as headed back to his St Lucia run after his first load, he gave me a big wave too as he drove past.
The best part of the day I reckon was this, I found 715 doing a cul de sac and waited for him at an in home pick up around the corner, when he arrived I knew it wasn't Ben or a casual by looking at his uniform but still asked if I could grab some videos which he said that was cool. Later on in the day he pulled over and had a good chat with me, asked what my youtube page was called and when I told him my youtube name he revealed who he was, turns out the driver of 715 today was my old Single Pass driver, Steve, we both could believe it. Steve said I have grown up a lot, haha, he said he'd checked out my videos and he now has a grandson who is obsessed with garbage trucks to. I said to Steve then that I'd make sure to get plenty of clips and upload them asap so he could check them out. I asked him what he used to drive in the old fleet, he used to drive 704 which I have seen plenty of times when working on 704's runs, if only I had of known. But he now drives one of the two Single Pass trucks again but now only on Mondays out west and on Fridays down south, doing both recycling and organics weeks. The other three days he is driving other trucks. So I said to Steve I'd come and see him in the Single Pass which I'm super keen to see again as I imagine you guys are too. As the Single Pass's aren't used full time they still look nice and clean around the arm and hopper, just a bit dusty though due to being out on some dirt roads.
