The Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games may seem far off, but if we don't get started on stadium upgrades, infrastructure construction and planning soon, we might run out of time.
Which is why it was great that the 60 day review of the Olympic venues from Graham Quirk was submitted on Friday, and released today, which saw a recommendation of scrapping The Gabba redevelopment, and building a brand new world class stadium at Victoria Park for $3.4 billion.
Only for QLD Premier Steven Miles to ignore the recommendations of the report and announce the opposite - that new stadium isn't happening and instead, opening and closing ceremonies will be at Suncorp Stadium and the athletics will be at QSAC Stadium at Nathan.
What a rollercoaster of a day. Steven Miles' announcement came as I was editing my reaction video to the Quirk review, so I had to quickly add in my two cents on that. I might consider making a full video on the new stadium options soon but wanted to get this out today.
What do you think? Is Suncorp and QSAS the way to go for the Brisbane Olympics? Woudl you have liked to see a new Victoria Park stadium or did you think that the Gabba demolition and rebuild was the right option?
