Lived in Snuff Mills cottage in the mid-1960s and used to walk to Fishponds to attend Saturday morning pictures (ABC minors) I can still remember the song we used to sing at the Vandyke cinema 6d admission price, happy carefree days. I think we had the best of times growing up then.
GE Mountford was an amazing shop. A real old school iron mongers. I could spend hours in there looking at old packets of screws and tools! Happy days 😊
Another thanks! I spent a lot of the early 80s visiting Fishponds just about every weekend from my home in Warwickshire as my then girlfriend was training to be a nurse at Glenside. I recall quite a few of these sights. I always liked Bristol and try and visit when I can. I had family connections too.
Thank you for posting this, Dave. I lived in Fishponds from 1939 to 1969, and your photos evoke many memories especially Orchards Ironmongers which I shopped at. The huge stock and the unique smells are still remembered.
Hello Graham. I love the old ironmongers and hardware shops. There's one I go to in Staple Hill. They always have so much stock, the owners are so knowledgeable and also as you say the unique smells. Regards Dave.
Great memories. My wife came from Eastville, and at separate times, we lived in Fishponds, and back in the 60's I worked in the government offices in Vassal Rd. I also did a short stint at Parnall's back in the late 70's. There was nowhere in your clips, Ive, that I didn't recognise
@@historymandave4739 Yeah it was late 70s early 80s. Then it was Hartnell Taylor Cooke estate agents for a long time. And now I think it's a hairdressers.
