The driver is my dad, He was one of the several drivers who used to drive the VR's properly and he still drives VR's on special events, XDV 608S was his favourite to drive aswell as VDV 141S - Bristol VRT Mark 3 former First Devon and Cornwall. :)
Ah, the Bristol VR. When I was a kid these were the only buses that I'd want to sit downstairs and at the back in. No. 86 Pier Head to Garston. Mental drivers slamming through the gears. These things shifted.
Brilliant work - I haven't heard anything like that in years. Used to travel on East Yorks VR's all the time in the 80's 90's Only dawned on me today there might be stuff like this on youtube
i always thought it was the back axle that whined at higher speeds. thats what i loved about vr's. an all british design like most vehicles until the late 80's. puts a dennis trident with voiths to shame especially early models. ecw olympian was the vr's successor that had more power leyland and bristol was the best selling buses of the 70's/80's
@MrJames1055 Yes he drove the VR respectfully, I seem to remember asome people staying on the bus after dropping off in Penzance, a lad and a woman remained on the bus, might this possibly have been you?
