AC is a necessity in most of the US during the summer. I live in Missouri so the center of the country and it's been "colder" the last couple of days and it's still 33°C. It's usually like 35-40°C for most of the summer. I also have to deal with humidity which makes it feel like 45°C. Even the nighttime temperatures here are around 28-30°C
2:05 rooms inside the house that people expect to have privacy will have simple push or turn locks on the doors. this is usually bedrooms and bathrooms. they can be upgrades to key locks if you choose to. 5:59 storm doors are there to protect the exterior door form weather as they keep the rain and other elements off the exterior door, thus prolonging the life of the exterior door. Additionally, some storm doors are rated to be much stronger and can protect the exterior door from flying debris during storms... some can even stand up to a tornado or hurricane and the debris they can throw around... Storm windows on the other hand are only designed to protect from debris during storms, not protect another window behind it as they are the only window there... 7:23 that is not a 'generator' as the A/C uses electricity from the house as it's power source. that electricity is generated at the power company.. this is an 'heat exchanger' unit of the A/C. it houses coils that release the heat that was collected from the interior of the house by the pipes and coolant inside those pipes that are connected to the interior unit that blows the air and sucks up the warm air in the 'Return' vent that comes back to the blower. It's more complicated than that, but this is a very basic overview. 8:30 ceiling fans can be useful both summer and winter... for summer you want the fan to suck up the cooler air to cool off the warmer air near the ceiling and push it out to the walls and in the winter you can change the direction of the air to blow down the air to force the warmer air to go down to the floor to warm up the cooler air as cold air stays closer to the ground. there is usually a switch on the body of the fan below the blades that allows this change in direction. 9:41 chain link fences are usually similar in price or even cheaper than wooden fences (especially large, tall, 'privacy' wooden fences) AND they last longer and take less damage during storms... they're also better at keeping animals inside than the smaller 'picket' fences....
As I am typing this comment it is 87°F or 31°C in my little part of Michigan...and yes the AC has been on all day. Yes.. all the bedrooms in my house have locks on the doors, I also have screen doors/storm doors and windows, there are 6 ceiling fans in my house..., our mailbox doesn't look like that but yes we have a mailbox too. 😊 So yes these are pretty common American things.
The a/c unit outside is the compressor and heat exchanger. Both things generate heat so it is best they be outside. Basically, the compressor runs which creates heat, and the lines are bringing the heat that was taken out of the air inside your house and suck outside air through it to cool it off some before sending it back inside to be cooled. This is why the air from the blower fan is shooting out the top, and considerably warmer than the outside temperature. Same reason the condenser for your cars a/c unit is usually getting air with the radiator at the front of the car. Why it is cooler in your car at 60mph than at a red light. Condenser being air cooled by forced air does better than not being cooled by it.
He forgot to mention that you can send mail directly from mail boxes in America just by raising the red flag that indicates outgoing mail, pretty sure thats the biggest difference between British and American mailboxes.
The fact that you don't have locks on bedroom doors is a bit odd I must say. Yes storm doors are normal. They do have small window a/c units. You should check and see if they sell them in the UK. The power requirement is different of course from the ones here so you couldn't order one online. They aren't very expensive either, just a few hundred dollars will get you a nice enough one to at least keep the real heat at bay in one or two rooms.
Screens just come on windows also.. it's very very rare to find windows that don't have screens on them already.. idk if Lawrence realizes this.. it's just a screen. Not a bug screen even though that makes sense..
The public bathrooms don't have much privacy because they don't want people sitting in the bathroom stalls all day long or doing things that you shouldn't be doing... They just never explain this good I don't know how.. Lawrence sucks at explaining lots of things in my opinion though..
@nickjreacts it's black and about 9x 11x 4 rectangle with a flip top lid that has two hooks about 5 inches long to hold a rolled up newspaper or magazine. It's attached to the support holding up the overhang? Of my porch. Because I live in the city not in the suburbs. It's not like NYC but we are close to each other it's buildings 2 or 3 floors high with an apartment on each floor. The mailman walks his route, he has a mailbag cart sort of thing where he keeps the mail for his route and puts the mail in each mailbox. In the 6 family house there's a locked mailbox that you tilt out and fill then lock in place and each box has a door and the tenant has a key to open it with. There's about 10 2 story homes on my side of the street a 3 floor 6 family apartment and an apartment building near the corner with maybe 20 apartment and across the one way street is 11 buildings and one church and one church with a church yard on my side.
I need him to make an april fools/parody video where he comes home with a ginormous pew pew because he decided to embrace his inner American. As he looks into the camera and explains the different spellings of the same word, he casually cranks off a few rounds. He says he just felt like bustin a cap.
