You want to know why us drumcorps folks have flocked to your channel for these reactions? You respond to these shows the way we always want friends and family to but don't often get. Put aside your technical knowledge and musical background, you just get so infectiously excited by the overwhelming sound and emotion that we've all been addicted to since we each discovered this activity.

Omg that actually put a tear in my eye. I can't tell you what this means to me. Thank you so much for sharing this journey with me. Omg this! When I’d do my home show and my family was there, after I’d ask them what they thought of the show and they’d be like “it was cool, anyway want to go get something to eat?” and in my head I’m like “cool?! Just cool?! That’s all I get?!?! I got the stupidest tanlines, blisters, chaffing, and several injuries I’m trying to power through and all I get is cool?!?! Do you have any idea how hard I worked at this?!?!” I know it sounds kind of snotty, but in my 18 year old brain I was just like…. Wtf….

@@vbfabiI FULLY appreciate you!! I trust we ALL fully appreciate you!! Talent recognizes talent. I can relate with the disappointment that you must feel towards family/friends for something as high powered as this. I went through it. I discovered a reality few others can understand. There's a terrible misfortune we have in knowing that many others operate on a low vibrational frequency. Therefore, lack the required intelligence in understanding what DCI is and how extremely talented you have to be to keep up with this. Keep your head above your heart. At the finale, when the Mello's blast away. It's earth shattering, soul piercing. I call it the 2nd Coming of Christ!🎉🙌🙏🏽👑❤️

You put it better than I could. This show was the first from DCI that I ever watched, and since then I've watched or listened to it hundreds of times. It still carries enough weight to bring a tear to my eye. It's so nice to see someone else experience the same raw emotion that I felt that day.

You are my favorite dci reacter. You actually understand the difficulties of being in one of these drum corps’. Every observation you made from the 6 minute mark to the 8 minute mark was spot on. Judges look for the synchronization of feet and leg timing with all the marchers and it takes a lot of control to cresendo and decresendo as an ensemble to create that music effect. The bluecoats is my favorite drum corps and highly recommend you reacting to them from the years 2016,2017,2019, or 2022 but only their finals performances. Corps tweak their show throughout their 2 month competitive season and on their last week their final product gets displayed.

The "scoops" you're seeing on the outside tenor drums are actually the bottoms of their stick bags as they use different weight/style sticks throughout the show the produce different melodic textures.
@fine8087
@fine8087 Месяц назад
@bonesccl is entirely correct, I'm just going to be the boring guy and get a lot more wordy! So those four drums that you were referring to are generally called Tenors. With the tenor drums, its not uncommon to see the use of different types of sticks whether it be by weight of the stick, shape of the stick head, or even material of the stick, tenors typically have quite a bit of different sticks they use. As a result, they require these sort of pockets or bags that hang form the drums on the outside. Both tenors and snares have stick bags, however tenors have two stick bags that hang off the back of the lower two drums. What you were seeing was simply the bottoms of those bags. I apologize if this seemed redundant, wordy, or like a jerk trying to correct someone, I was only attempting to clarify 🙏

This show is one of my favorites(other than Bluecoats 2016)! My favorite detail is at 9:10(in the original video) during the ballad right before the big hit. If you listen closely, you can hear an audible *Click* before the hit. That’s actually the sound of the horn snap! The hornline lifts their horns to playing so precisely it all just sounds like a single snap, and it’s such a chilling sound! It is my favorite example of the unity and togetherness that this kind of marching is known for!

the sound doesnt just come from nothing, its an effect they add by having a really well oiled 3rd valve slide with no rubber stopper, and closing it really fast as you snap to create the click sound. It is definitely really impressive and hard to have everyone do it at the exact same time for it to actually be effective

SCV is my favorite corps by far - they’re one of the more traditional ones, and also the only corps that has made finals every year they’ve competed since DCI’s inception in 1972. Hope we can get you to Indy for finals sometime. I don’t have enough cash to bring you to the US, but I do have 8 tickets every year close to mid-field about halfway up (the blast zone) and would be more than happy to let you have a ticket for free 😊 It would be awesome to meet you! You were talking about the crescendo and decrescendo. They are doing it but not as drastic as you think. While they are turning, the person in the back could stop playing until they hit a specific step as they are turning back to the front causing the effect to seam more intense than it is. It's a trick my band director loved to do in high school! LOL I love that you are enjoying this! I never miss the show when it comes to my area. Usually get to always see Phantom Live.

Just watched video of Hebron High School - Penstriped. Amazing. Growing up with a band director father, five separate bands simultaneously, I know the practice procedure. My granddaughter marched high school (snare) in conjunction with a WGI band (bass). There were a few competitions when she marched with her high school and within 15 minutes back on the floor with WGI. In high school they rehearsed every day, in Summer, from mid-July until start of school, noon until 8. If you get a chance, another good show, 2019 West Broward Performance Ensemble, "Lost In the Fog". Florida State Grand Champions.

I have never been ti a dci show. But i was in a pretty serious high school marching band all 4 years. And its absolutely true that seeing it live is a different experience. I can say from experience you literally feel all the wind from the brass instruments coming at you. And you can feel the low brass rumbling the seats you sit in. And when the high brass hits just the right chord you can feel it in your chest. Being on the field is just as magical. I was the loudest trumpet player my high school had seen in a while. And it was amzing being able to flex that talent at certain points.

It's so nice to see someone react to DCI like this. I was in the Razorback Marching band in college and really wanted to spend my summers doing this, but I played sax. So i became a fan. Like so many college bands, we had members who marched with different corps. Those of us who didn't do drum corps, would gather with food and drinks and watch the competition on TV like our own version of the olympics. DCI has changed a lot over the years, but I am still a fan. If i had a favorite corps, it would probably be Phantom Regiment, as some of my best friends marched with them. But my favorite old school show is 1988 Madison Scouts--their closer is still my all time favorite. Thanks for reviewing these.

@16:05 Percussionist for seven years here. For quads (or tenors) the outside drums are the lowest pitch drums, so the wood on the drums scoops downwards a bit more to project sound and to get the pitch right. Snares are the only drums that have actual scoops that you attach that aren't built onto the drum.

I am an ardent Cavaliers fan. the Cavaliers were dominant in DCI from 2000 to 2010. Yes before all the props. Two of their shows,, my favorites, fully explain why they won 7 times in that period. Also, the Cavies as we affectionately refer to the are the only remaining all male drum corps in DCI. It's a long lasting brotherhood formed originally from a Boy Scout troop.I want to send you like to 2002 Frameworks and 2010 Mad World. Framewoks shows some of the fastest moving designs on the field ever and Mad World is just a pure joy to watch even though It scored second place. Frameworks scored first place. Your reactions are the reaction that those of us who love the activity have and wish that our friends and family could understand why we can sit and watch the same show 20 times. The way that you are moved by each show you have reacted to is beautiful as it means that you get it. The goal of almost every member of a corp is to move people in the crowd. I love in Indianapolis Indiana which is the home of DCI including the host city for the World Championships since 2009. I can not wait to see your next reaction and I will send you some as well🙏👍

On your comment about dropping the sabres.... One of my instructors once told a story about one going through someone's foot because they missed a high/fast toss..... They're ROUNDED and dull.

You reacting to DCI has me subbed. Great job my friend! Enjoy it. There is so much love and dedication to their craft and you have 50 years of drum corps to draw from. This is from a drum corp guy myself… 1987-1993.

I know you asked about the scoops on the tenors and it only looks like scoops from the angle. Those are actually stick bags to hold their sticks tenors carry them on the 2 lower drums!

Awesome reaction. Thank-you for acknowledging this incredible activity. The drums you mentioned are referred to as tenor toms or just "tenors." They are arranged with 4 different pitches starting with the highest pitch at top right, then top left, then bottom right, and then bottom left being the lowest pitch. Closest to the player in the center are usually one or two smaller drums called "spock" drums and are very high pitched. No snares on tenor toms and generall no scoops. Those were most likely the bottom of their stick bags.

Excellent reaction. Please please check out Phantom regiment 2008. Probably one of the most loved shows. I think you would really enjoy it. Also Carolina Crown 2013. But do Phantom Regiment 1st

Arguably one of the best ballads ever. For a different audience, you should react to a Southern University 5th quarter band competition. They are a HBCU marching band and they play rap, r&b, motown and more. The power is impressive.

The next corps we need to see is Carolina Crown! They're informally titled God's Hornline for a reason The most fan favorite is 2013, it is the ONLY show to score a perfect 20 in Brass

I'm also a newbie to this and am becoming addicted. I see these young folks raising money through car washes and whatever way they can just to go to events. And they form such a tight community. It's so full of emotion.

15:28 That Rack of 4 drums is called a Quad and all 4 of those drums have a sort of scoop, but they are built into the drum and made of wood most of the time.

About 90% sure the trumpet with the whistle note is the highest not recorded in DCI

The tenors (multi-toms) are built that shape, like wedges with a shorter shell at the front and deeper at the rear, so no scoop attached. They actually have 6 drums on the one carrier. four that you can see making the shape of the instrument, but there are two more smaller drums called 'spock' drums in the center closer to their body behind drums 1 and 2.

hi! the 2 bigger drums on the quads are there for projecting the lower frequencies of the bigger drums, the smaller ones still have scoops, just smaller!
@ghostspright
@ghostspright Месяц назад
im pretty sure for the scoops on the drums you were talking about im pretty sure it to project those spesific drums better because they are lower in tone (and easy to get lost in everything) to it projects them out more

Great review. You might also be interested in some older stuff, especially the golden era of bugles, the '80s and '90s. Much more playing while marching going on back then too. Check out Santa Clara Vanguard from 1987: Russian Christmas Music Another good year is 1988.
