The reason we have a lot of sub shops in the us isn’t because of hot weather. Rather, in the 1800s and 1900s a lot of people from Europe immigrated to the us to start a new life. A lot of immigrants brought their culture to the us with them especially food. As such Italian immigrants who settled in and around the New York area as well as the Midwest began opening local delis where people could eat authentic Italian food including subs and pizza

Fun fact, when the original KFC guy sold out due to being unable to run the business anymore came back to have some of said chicken, he said the chain management had ruined it, and proceeded to go on a tear over it, the chicken was tough, the batter was burnt, and so much more, and all those changes were made for the sake of "Speed" that RUINED his original recipe. Not to mention we're apparently still with a recipe/set up that reduces the quality of the food from KFC's original form.

Facts. KFC used to be good, now here in the states they are the worst option. We usually got the shakes with all our meals, but if we needed a more liquid drink (because the shakes are so thick) we always go for the cherry limeade. They are made just like Sonic makes them - with sugar syrup, fresh squeezed limes, real cherries and soda. I've seen them use Sprite and I've seen them use carbonated water, like seltzer water. Either way, they are delicious! Sonic has amazing drinks too, and you can add any flavors to any soda - real strawberries and vanilla in Dr Pepper or their strawberry lemonade with extra strawberries and lemon halves, put any slush flavors in a soda, etc. I used to work there and tried different combinations every day (our drinks were free). It sounds weird but tastes delicious!

Arizona Resident Born and Raised. eegee's drinks are basically a slushy flavored ice and fruit juice, some time you get lucky and get actual fruit chunks in the drink. Also I use the term "drink" loosely, it's poured out from a machine and served with a spoon. Only very VERY rarely do they ever last long enough to melt back into a drink for me. Hope this helps you to understand a bit. Also their grinders are glorious! @33:40 - A "Smash-Burger" is a ball of meat placed on a griddle/grille to cook, but after placing will immediately have a flat object like a spatula placed on it, and weight is pressed down on the spatula to "smash" the ball into an ultra-flat, wide burger patty to develop a perfect outer "crust" in it's own oil, and cook through quickly, yet remain VERY juicy. Also, yes, (if they mention it) the fried cheese curds, DO squeak as you chew. Bone conduction from the teeth to the ears, I guess...

National Coney is definitely good but Buddys Pizza is amazing! It was created in Detroit by Sicilian immigrants who went to Detroit to take jobs in the auto industry around the turn of the 20th century. The wife of the couple missed her local favorite food, a regional pizza, so her husband brought home a steel pan they used at the auto plant to hold nuts and bolts for car making. She seasoned the pan, which was square, and made the first Detroit style pizza. They are absolutely delish! The original Buddys still has the steel pan used to make the first pie!

Culvers has really good burgers (better by far than the other fast food chains) and they have real, and whole cut onion rings. Taco Johns - I swear my go-to for a quick lunch is their simple bean burrito. Taco Johns Mexican food is better than about any sit-down Mexican restaurant I've ever been in. The bean burrito - perfectly made, perfect amount of fresh onion in the refried beans, and a very good flour tortilla. They do amazing things with their Potato Ole's too, including a smothered version that will bust your diet, but soooo good. Their taco salad is awesome, and their house salad dressing is a wonder. There are a few other Coney Island chains in the area, like Leo's and Mark's, and also many independent ones, all with similar menus. I spent some time living in New Jersey, and since their specialty is Philadelphia-style cheesesteak sandwiches, you can't call it a "sub", but absolutely must use the regionalism "hoagie". That fish sandwich that you remarked about, Bro.. any fish sandwich made with wild caught Alaskan halibut is one darned good fish sandwich. 😂

Eegee's is awesome. They were trying to make an italian ice and screwed up the recipe, so it's not really a drink, but it's also more slushy than say a bowl of ice cream. Very flavorful and they have new flavors every month. Thier biggest selling point though they stopped; they're a sandwich place very similar to say Subway, but way better. They used to have rye bread as an option but they stopped that. Thier sides are also interesting and unique. Bacon ranch fries, pizza fries, etc. Good stuff...and they just started expanding north to the Phoenix area. It's also rather hard to compare Habit and In-n-Out. In-n-Out is pure fast food. The Habit is more casual dining. The Habit is awesome but for fast food, In-n-Out is the way to go. To answer your question...smash burgers are the best way to make a burger. Usually, you get a ball of hamburger that is the size that you're needing, then you put the ball on the grill and use something like a spatula or a weight to press on the spatula to press the burger down into the pan. It makes the burgers very thin and kind of carmelizes the burger itself.

They didn’t mention Buc ee’s starting out in Texas. This is really a gas station with take out food. We had the 3 meat sandwich (brisket, pulled pork, sausage with a very nice BBQ sauce) and it was fantastic. Not sure it is officially considered fast food as there isn’t really an eating area.

I was gonna say the same about Buc-ee's. Whataburger isn't the same since they changed ownership. I rather have In N Out than Whataburger now. Honestly I think Chester's is the best (at least in the San Antonio area)

Buc ee’s is just a straight up, super Walmart sized tourist trap. The Knick knacks are cute but over priced, the food is just basic, the giant jerky selection is more of a novelty, and the rest is normal gas station shit. But you have to walk through a crowd of people like you’re at the fair, wait in insanely long lines, and try to find one out of a hundred gas pumps that’s open. There is no way in hell I would ever go to one if we had one locally. Even as a tourist I have no desire to ever experience that again. But they’re constantly filled to max capacity and the owner makes an obscene amount of money. They do several billion a year in sales and profit is a couple hundred million. I hate the place but I respect the shit out of the place as a business lol.

MN here, I've never been to or even heard of the one listed for Minnesota. My vote for fast food dinner is Stuffy's burgers and milkshakes. I think it is just one restaurant in the twin cities. Milkshakes are strongly encouraged with a patty melt. 😊 so good.

Wisconsin here! Culver's is amazing! Must try if you see one. One of the best places to find fast food that's almost like cooking at home without the mess or fuss.

When I moved to Ohio from the East Coast, I agreed with you about Skyline. GROSS! It took me 10 years to muster the courage to try the 3-Way (the spaghetti dish), but it's actually not bad. I don't go there often, but if you get a chance, try it. However, it's definitely not for everyone.

I ate my first Whataburger in Amarillo Texas about a year ago and it was just a regular cheese burger --- and I thought wow I could have been eating these all this time and just didn't realize how good they were, every thing in them just is so fresh and tastes so homemade

Tudors is deff a favorite here, most of us are up super early for work and its nice to be able to get a hot meal before work at 5am. Biscuits and gravy are phenomenal, id also recommend a pepperoni roll if you ever stop by WV
