I’ve noticed something lately about many RU-vidrs and some in general from the UK they cover a lot of our entertainers, sport figures and just most of our pop culture. Thats why they would know Labron James. Over here our RU-vidrs and others don’t cover European entertainment, sport figures there pop culture period. Believe me there are people here that don’t know him. Lewis ask him he will probably tell you how people in America don’t know him. lol
@@bwsinfonia13 I was commenting on the original comment. It says nothing about when you are in another country. Agreed, when in 'other countries' stay out of their politics.
I don't stay away from politics lol I live in the south and we don't mind mind picking on liberals any chance we get. They're so easily triggered, especially the blue haired ones out in the wild.
Lolol. I only know who he is because I'm a huge American sports fan (not soccer, boooorrriiinnnggg) and they announced on ESPN that he was playing for Miami, or somebody, now? Idk. But yeah, I could be sat next to him and would just think he's a good looking guy.
at least you're honest and admit you don't know who he is. My brother in law, who claims is a huge soccer fan, tried giving me a lecture on who Ronaldo was, and managed to get pretty much everything wrong lol
a poof that runs around the field flapping his wings and grinding on guys, but really, that's all of soccer in a nutshell. Rugby is a better sport. . . though got admit, I like the rivalries between all brits and their sports. So, many colourful songs. The U.S. could use some dedicated songs, not just uni, outright trashing the other team group songs to sing..
Holy cow, yes! Never never never get out of the car if the police stop you. Keep calm, be friendly, and do as they say. Period. Yeah, some people like to make their entire identity about politics. Just don’t go there. It’s so ridiculous. I have no clue who Ronaldo or Messi are. I recognize their name, but not the face. 🤷♀️ I’ve gone to pharmacies to buy many things , other than Medicine. In my opinion, don’t come to America and point out all their faults. We’re well aware of the these things. It’s just bad manners and pretentious to come to a country and do that. Europeans are openly rude sometimes. Whether it’s by accident or not.
Actually Spanish is the most common second language most people at least learn to a degree. They might not be great at speaking it but they at least understand the gist of the conversation. German and French are also common with lower understanding levels of Asian languages. So seriously don’t think you can get away with saying something bad and somebody not knowing what you say. I’ve called out a couple of people in Japanese and Chinese for the stuff they spew already.
just remember, most Americans who speak spanish speak mexican spanish, which is close to european spanish, but different, like american english and british english are different.
@@kenbrown2808 I moved my senior year of high school, and my new school taught Spanish, but not Mexican Spanish. I was so confused, that I just dropped the class
@@kenbrown2808 : Spanish was a required class in school at least when I went to school. It wasn’t Mexican Spanish, but I I grew up in California and my friends were Mexican Americans. Then there were Chicano’s(so). I don’t think they liked American Spanish. I’m not sure, but they were always angry. lol!
Back in the 80s some women came into my Mom's shop and they were German, complaining about some of the products. My Mother was from Germany and just started talking to them in German. One of her favorite stories for years 😂
If you are going to visit any of our National Parks, please follow the park rangers' instructions. Every year we have tourists getting hurt because they are getting too close to the larger animals (buffalo and deer) just to get a picture or selfie, even though they are told not to get close by the park rangers.
@lisa-shitsakwibjnie while it is true the term Bison is correct, here in Colorado, we call the animal Buffalo. In fact, one of our college teams is the CU Buffaloes.
@roaminwithreggiebear9092 Sorry. Pet peeve of mine. I'm Indigenous, and I hear people say that my people chased buffalo. They didn't chase buffalo in America. They chased bison. Well, my people didn't chase either, really. The men would go off to hunt bison while the women stayed behind and farmed. My people actually lived in communities. The story of my people being savages living in teepees was a huge lie told to make Christians feel better about "unaliving" my people. I can't use the real word, or my comment will get deleted on here. I apologize if my comment seemed rude. This is why it sucks to comment because it can easily come off rude when not meant to be.
@lisa-shitsakwibjnie It's okay. I know comments can come off rude. I love learning about cultures and languages, and I know that Native Americans had different names for the animals. I have read on the NPS website that the word Buffalo comes from the French word for beef "boeuf". Honestly, I appreciate your candid comments. 😀
@roaminwithreggiebear9092 in Apache language, bisen is tt'okijere. I am Apache. Apache language is dene. Just a little something interesting for you I hope.
Never smoke indoors at any public place, restaurant, bar, etc. Not sure about all the states, but in many counties in California, you cannot smoke even on the outdoor patio of a restaurant.
Thank God for that, too. I remember when going to a bar for a night was like smoking a half pack of Camels and you and your clothes smelled like it, too. Awful. This was true in movie theaters, too. Freedom now from that is wonderful!
Put your hands flat on the steering wheel so the officer can see them as s/he approaches the car. Don't move fast looking for your wallet or purse. If the officer asks, say that you're going to reach for your purse or whatever and get it. Don't open the glove compartment without saying that you're going to do so. Many people legally (or illegally) keep a weapon in the compartment. Reaching for it too fast makes police nervous.
Exactly. It's about the respect you should show a person of authority who is literally risking their lives every second they are on duty and then some. Be polite and reapectful and things will be fine.
2:48 "What If You're Told To Get Out Of The Car?" Well, in that particular case, Lewis, that'd be the ONLY reason why you'd get out of the car in the US. Otherwise, the police officer could see you as a potential threat to their safety and possibly even their life
yep, remember that in the US, there are crazy people with guns, and police officers have been shot during what should have been minor traffic stops. - so they are a bit paranoid.
If it hurts your feelings that the pharmacy also sells ice cream and boxes of candy (and pretty much anything you can think of😂) don't go inside, just use the drive-thru to pick up your prescription
In the southern states we SMILE and say hello to everyone and we are genuinely trying to be kind and friendly. If you don’t reciprocate, we assume you’re rude or mentally ill. 🤷🏼♀️
2 weeks ago I went to the supermarket and bought a huge box of cat food. while at the check out the lady, who I later found out works there, asked hubby a question about the cat food. We ended up chit chatting for a bit, and considering how the bag was almost as big as me I ended up telling her I also feed the local stray cats that stop by the house, and turned part of my porch into a kitty area they can come and chill at. This past week hubby went back to the store, came back and told me he had seen the same lady at the supermarket and she had asked where I was lol. I never thought she'd even remember me from that one single short conversation we had had. Either way it was really lovely of her. next time I go there I must take pictures of the stray kitties so she can see them.
That's funny. Many of us in the North think Southerners--by their behavior and attitudes--are actually mentally ill. Easy, easy, just joking, Scarlett.
For an American police officer, one of the most dangerous encounters is a simple traffic stop. You're walking into an unknown situation that may be the nicest, most innocent person you could ever meet or, it could be a mass murderer who just carjacked the car you're pulling over that will respond with violence. When you're pulled over, put on your hazards, pull to the side of the road or into a parking lot, put your car in park and shut it off then keep your hands visible. 99 percent of the time, it's going to be something simple like a few miles over the speed limit or some minor traffic violation. Mind your manners and it'll usually be over in a matter of minutes.
So true. A few years ago a local Deputy made a routine traffic stop. Everything went normal, but when the Deputy went back to the stopped car to return the ID after running a check, the driver shot him point-blank in the face, then drove off. Luckily the Deputy survived, but with permanent damage that ended his career. The assailant later turned himself in across the state line (his mama made him; smart woman). But that was just a routine "did you know you were speeding" traffic stop. Cops never know what the person in the car they just pulled over is gonna do.
Yes, be respectful of him or her doing their job as you would want to be respected for doing yours, i.e. asking people for their ticket, passport, move your car if blocking a business driveway, etc. Makes life easier.
I recognize the name Ronaldo, but I definitely wouldn't know it was him if I saw him in public... I'm not even entirely sure what he looks like to be completely honest.
Just want to say thank you. Your channel has given me a lot of joy over the years. Please keep it up and stay real. Best of happiness to you and your family.
First thing should have been "don't just go to New York City" New York is not city, it's farms, forests, lakes, rivers, small communities. Would I recognize Ronaldo? Who tf is Ronaldo? I had to use autofill to even spell that name right.
@@babyJes444Not everyone knows who Ronaldo is. He is more of a European legend. I was in Mexico for a few years a long time ago, and they didn't really talk about European soccer/football legends.
the pharmacies here are basically like a corner store. You give them your prescription you can get your photos printed out. And while you're waiting you can walk around and get some snacks.
15% to 20% at sit down restaurants. $1 to $2 per beer at bars if you are not staying for a long time. If you are with friends, then you will get a bill after drinking the beer and you will then tip the same 15% to 20% as in restaurants.
Lol the pharmacy couldn't care less about your health, it's a business venture. They sell pharmaceuticals and will fill your prescription, and while you're there, they will sell you anything else you might want or need
@@garyporterfield7165 Wrong. There are many stories of townships being busted handing out bogus tickets just for the revenue. Just do a google search, they have been caught.
I can honestly say, as an American born and raised in Indiana my whole life, political conversations is something most if not all people are honestly trying to avoid, just because they know where it can lead. So coming to America, my best advice is to not bring up political issues 🙌🏽
@ellis4900 Could it be the way one comes at you about things. I look at a lot of these podcasts and most of the people who visit part of the US become an expert on the whole country. For example tipping, Most of the people you tip are working for a small family-run business just trying to make a living.
As an American born and raised in Texas, the 3 No's of Conversation were: Politics, Money, and Religion. The reasoning: The risk of an argument (or something worse) will always be way too high for anything truly beneficial to come from it.
Tipping is not expected at a fast food place. (Although they may have a tip jar on the counter. ) The people who work there are given a regular wage, unlike at a full-service restaurant, and you generally fetch your own food and clean up up after yourself, get your own refills, etc.
13:41 As far as that's open container law. In some cases, you could also face jail time for public intoxication in addition to being fined for having an open container
That's a little different because for a while he played in America, but more importantly he's married to one of the Spice Girls. That's why people in America would know him. LOL
I've lived in the US my whole life. I've never heard of Ranaldo. I remember in grade school in the 70s they tried to get us interested in soccer and we just didn't care.
@@archieletsyouknow5508 I live in ABQ and... well... I recommend it but I also don't. I've lived in the metro area for 30 years. Rio Rancho (just to the northwest of Albuquerque) is quieter and nicer for the most part, and I'm about to move back there. Abq has a lot of crime, but you won't see it most of the time. If you are visiting, it's generally not a problem. I'd say to be cautious or even stay away from downtown in general, especially at night. While there is a night life with a lot of restaurants, bars, and night clubs, it's also more people and with more people come more problems. Still, there is a lot to see and do. Some people come and do Breaking Bad tours. Some people want to check out hot air ballooning, some want to check out old town and the blend of Native American/Spanish influx, while other still are about enjoying the Sandia mountains or the Rio Grande valley, or doing a hike around the Petroglyph national park. If you do come to Albuquerque, the food scene is great. Grab a green chile cheeseburger at some point, and get to one of the many New Mexican restaurants and try Xmas chile on a combination plate, enjoy the sopapillas and find time to relax.
New Mexico -White Sands was beautiful. The stores and the houses all look alike. Lol Made with beautiful Adobe (i believe). The mountains there were something to see. Reminded me of being on a US military base where everything is uniform.
in the US, when police pull you over, roll down your window, have your license and car papers handy, and follow instructions. - and the officer will normally go to your passenger side window. stepping out unasked, makes them nervous.
10:29 I have only watched 2 soccer games in my life and it was like watching paint dry. I couldn't tell you a single soccer player without looking them up. I also can't tell you what any of them look like and couldn't identify them if they were standing in front of me.
I've never heard of that person you mentioned. At least I don't think I have. But I also don't follow any sports, so don't take my word as being representative of other people from the US.
Yes, honestly I would avoid most of the big popular cities like New York, L.A., and even Chicago, unless you just really wanted to see a large skyline of buildings. I would definitely focus on the National Parks and/or just getting off the main Interstates and taking country roads into rural areas. That's the real America.
Point # ! : It is only the first week of April, so far this year over 100 police officers in the US have been shot since January 1. That's one every 22 hours ! Police officers here have EVERY RIGHT to be cautious. If you are stopped, Sit quietly, keep your hands in sight and do NOT make any sudden movements. So long as you're well behaved, as a foreigner, you may get off with a verbal warning.
As a waitress, only tip how you feel in a sit down restaurant. The bill is the price, you choose your own tip at each establishment, there is no law requiring it.
I'm an American that don't like any sports really. Barely know who LeBron is and likely wouldn't recognize him in public, and absolutely no clue who Ronaldo is.
If you want to get the most for your money save visiting new york city and California for your second trip. Very expensive. Or bring a truck load of money.
this 100% skip Disney and put that thousand or more towards seeing the rest of the country you will get more out of it and also not be charge a arm and two legs for a beer
They are used to Europe 45 min or 2 hours on a train and youre in another country...here you're still in the same state most often. It's a 6 hour flight from Miami to Washington state. It takes 12 hours to drive across Texas. You can take a train or a bus from NYC to LA it will take 3-4 days or longer. So we drive or fly
I've heard of Reynaldo but wouldn't recognize him. 🤷♂️ Granted the same is true for a lot of recently famous people here. Unless they were famous before I started tuning out 20 years ago -- or if my kids were/are into them, I'm blissfully unaware. Now if you want to talk cattle genetics I can cite book and verse! 😂
Public transportation isn't my first go to but it is different in every city and state. Beaumont, California you can ride the city bus all day long around, wherever it goes. See the sights, shop etc.. Little village of Southeast Ohio, you have to schedule a ride to somewhere specific or stand at a bus stop and get off and/or on at a required spot. Ohio has no train stations like Florida does or Subways like New York. Every city and state is different. There's a whole lot of country roads in Ohio, so you need a vehicle to get you around. Also this small town doesn't have any uber or lyft drivers. It has a cab/taxi company and it costs $10 to wherever you're going and $10 back lol
Servers make way below minimum wage, the restaurants count on the customer tipping to make up the difference. As far as restaurants, 15% is generally the rule of thumb. I tip 15% for the bare minimum. If I had good service, I will generally tip between 20 and 25%.
Same here, 15% is my "Default Tip" If the service is sub-par I'll go down to 10% sometimes, but the sky's the limits when it comes to good service. I've given 50% tips for Top-Tier Service before. But 20% - 25% is where I usually end up.
That's dependent on location, and hopefully it spreads..... Where I live they won't let restaruants pay less than minimum wage. Just saw a new story California pays 20 bucks an hour to the fast food workers now.
Alcohol definitely in pharmacies but a smaller bottle. Most if not all pharmacies got rid of the entire cigarette section and replaced it with electronics and anti-smoking products. It’s an attempt to get people to stop smoking to some degree.
I can give you one straight off. If you go down South and a Southern Sheriff pulls you over for speeding don't ever get out of your car and start arguing with him less you want an old fashioned Good old boy Southern Beating ! 😅
No Lew... no politics AT ALL and if anyone tries to push you (keep bugging you) to get your opinion on trump... play dumb... like youve never heard of him. Trust this. P.S. Most wouldn't recognize the soccer dude... ive never heard of him. The sport isnt televised as much or reported on as much here so most ppl have no clue. The only one id recognize is Beckham and that only because of his wife, not because ive ever seen him play lol
This is the 1st time I have ever heard of "Rinaldo". Beckham and Pele are the only names associated with soccer that I recognize, and I have no idea what they look like. I even played soccer, full back, as a 12 year old and enjoyed it greatly. Wait, there was that obnoxious female soccer player who missed the final shot of her career, and kept the USA out of the championship games recently. I can remember her face, but not her name.
True you generally cannot drink in public (streets, parks, etc). One exception is New Orleans, French Quarter district.....everyone is walking and drinking on the streets, right in front of police on horseback! It was a surreal experience for me. And fun :)
If Lebron James and Rinaldo sat down at my table in a restaurant, I wouldn’t recognize either of them. I also have zero interest in public transport unless I’m in a big city.
On a similar note to football/soccer - in the US and Canada, "Hockey" always means ice hockey by default! The hockey that's played on a field is always specified as "field hockey."
I would say don't use subways or busses in larger cities because of how dangerous it is. You're more likely to get attacked than not. If you visit national parks, don't feed the wildlife. This drives me crazy. I know it seems cool and harmless. But in reality it fosters a dependency on humans that can have very bad consequences for the wildlife and humans.
I know who Renaldo is, but i wouldn't recognize him if he passed me on the street. However, I am surprised how many in the comments haven't even heard of him. He's the biggest name in soccer.
When the guy in the video says don't get out of the car because "our police can be a little on edge" he is implying that they will draw their firearm on you.
On the topic of American drinking laws, In my fine state of Kentucky, And several others) there are also such as a "Dry county" where the citizens of a county have voted for NO alcohol sales AT ALL ... There are counties where there are no alcohol sales at all on Sundays . Closing times for bars and nightclubs are set locally.. Some cities there is no "last call". Other cities stop sales at midnight or 1 am.
I know of Renaldo's name but that's it, if he walked past me or we were in an elevator It wouldn't even cross my mind who he would be. Even so I don't think many Americans would get star-struck over meeting him besides die-hard soccer fans.
I’m not a soccer fan. I’ve heard the name Renaldo from one of my soccer fan friends, but I would never recognize him and would never hear about him anywhere else.
I very much know of Renaldo and the magnitude of how legendary he is across the globe to the sport, but I wouldn't know him from anyone else if he walked by me.
I just had to Google Ronaldo. No, he's right. I don't know anyone who knows any soccer players, except Pele decades ago. The only soccer most here pay attention to here are when our kids play it on afterschool teams. Most here don't care about any professional soccer. No, you would not be able to drink at 18-20 yrs old in the US, no matter what the law is in your home country.
About the personal space thing, part of it was left out: other than a handshake or a polite tap on the shoulder, don't touch us unless we already know you.
I have no idea who Renaldo is. Sorry. I do know who Messi is. I am Dominican-American and my Dad who I am a full-time caregiver of does watch soccer sometimes. I hear the name Messi a lot when Spanish sports news is on the TV. And though many Americans might not be soccer fans, most of us have heard of David Beckham. You even see his image on buildboards on the side of buildings here in New York City advertising products.
9:52 Some parts of America football is bigger. My uncle keeps his boat docked around 1 km from Messi’s house (and slightly further from Luis Suarez’s - he bought a house down the street from Messi) in Fort Lauderdale. Luis Suarez was the the Miami Heat basketball game last Thursday and they showed him on the jumbo screen and he got a big ovation. Neymar was also recently at a lot of sporting events in Miami, and he even threw out the first pitch for the Miami Marlins
In Texas, and much of the country, Spanish is very much the 2nd language, spoken by a large (30%?) of the population. From restaurants, to contractors, well, any service industry, Spanish is often the #1 language, and you feel stupid when you only know English.
15 to 20% is fine. No need to go to 25%. I don't know why anyone would think that. Edit: There are soccer fans in the US who would recognize Renaldo or Messi. But a lot of the general public would not. I happen to have played soccer in my youth and so I am a fan. I might recognize them, but I haven't looked at their faces enough to have it memorized.
My husband and I were in London. We went to a restaurant and opon leaving, my husband left a very large tip, accidentaly because he didn't understand the difference in ours and their money, The waiter was very greatful LOL
Please don't go to a Disney park, the prices are beyond outrageous. Get your ass to Ohio and visit 2 of the best amusement parks in the world, Kings Island and Cedar Point which is on Lake Erie where you can also charter a fishing boat and fish for the worlds best tasting fish, perch. While you're in Ohio visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Cleveland), The U.S. Air Force Museum (Dayton), The Pro Football Hall of Fame (Canton), 2 MLB teams, 2 NFL teams, 2 MLS teams, 1 NHL team and another pro football team named The Ohio State Buckeyes along with TBDBITL. Stay a weekend in Hocking Hills State Park in a cave house or other cool cabin type thingy! If you plan your trip right you'll never be more than a 2.5 hour drive from your next adventure. Also it's not a far drive from Cleveland to Niagra Falls outside Buffalo NY. Last but not least you can stand on the border of "that state up north" also known as Missagain, your UK maps probably call it michigan, anyway you can stand on the border and take a piss directly on that worthless piece of land!!!! Most fun you'll ever have. PEACE!
The Ohio river has fun places to dine you can even ride a River boat while you eat, there are authentic log cabins you can walk through also the flood wall has a huge mural in Portsmith and you will be very close to Kentucky the blue grass state where we keep our race horses and the best bourbon money can buy. One of our daughters live there and if you want you can visit the places that make the bourbon distillery.
You can go to Vegas and visit Zion national park, lake Powel and Horseshoe Bend, the Arches national park, and the Grand Canyon in one trip. All these places are within a 4 hour drive of las Vegas.

If you do want to come to Disney World, now is the time. Come before the end of May (when school ends), definitely DONT come in August (unbearable heat, rain every afternoon-and not cool rain, our rain is warm), and I’d probably not come between September or October either (unbearable heat, for you as a Brit anyway, and still trenching on hurricane season). November you could probably do, Disney is a whole other experience in December but it’s also a lot more crowded. Any time after that is also probably good. Just keep in mind that after 4pm the entire place is, for the most part, run by people between 18-25. Just avoid the summer months. Trust me. You might melt. Both from the humidity and the body heat.
Come to Isle Royale and Mackinac Island in nothern Michigan! Western Michigan is beautiful too! The M-22 Lake Michigan Coastal is gorgeous. There are so many western cities in Michigan that are magnificent like, Grand Haven, Holland, South Haven, St. Joseph, Muskegon, Silver Lake Sand Dunes and Saugatuck.
The funniest thing about the word soccer is that the word was first used in England! Back in the day Rugby and Soccer were both called football. To help differentiate the sports soccer started to be called Association Football, but that took forever to be said so they contracted the word to “soccer.” Eventually the Union for Rugby was formed and they started calling it rugby and soccer reclaimed the word football, but soccer had already made its way to the US.
Very few in the US would recognize Rinaldo. I saw him in some TV show about soccer, but I already forgot what he looks like. Most Americans never watch soccer--except maybe during the olympics.
I would recognize Renaldo, but only because I follow sports. I don't follow or like soccer, but there's no escaping soccer talk on ESPN, or other sports news. But I honestly don't think that most Americans even know who he is, let alone would be able to recognize him. His statement about only speaking English makes me laugh because more people speak Spanish in the U.S. than in Spain or Colombia. Where I live in California, there are people and areas that predominately speak Spanish and English is not even necessary.
About Trains. If you can get a first class cabin it’s a good way of seeing the country side. A lot of trains go places cars don’t. Through mountains and over bridges. Beautiful scenery for a short trip.
