This is typical banter between our countries. It sounds harsh to others but it's all in good spirits. And a lot of it actually is accurate.

If i had to explain the Nordic countries to someone i'd prob say it like this: Imagine just ordinary siblings, but every time you walk past their room you just have to poke your head in and say "Sup" turn their light off and close the door just to annoy them a bit.. That's basically how we are to each other, we love each other but we also like to mess with each other🤷‍♂

Finland is "a strange cousin that the Swedes have to take care of". Hmm, it would be fun to see how the Swedes would fare if they had more than a 1300 kilometer border with Russia. it seems to me that the Finns take care of the Swedes by keeping the Russians away. I'd rather put it this way: Swedes are that slightly strange and loud classmate who might annoy Finland sometimes. However, Finland defends Sweden from school bullies because Finland and Sweden are classmates. It must be admitted that if we take the Nordic frame of reference, then Finland is the "strange" one. Although Swedes are just as strange to Finns as Finns are to Swedes.

Helan går is a song that we sing when drinking snaps. You sing a snaps song and then drink it. By the way, a little note on spoiled people in Stockholm (especially those who hang around the Stureplan area in the city ), he referenced to this behaviour where people would order a bottle of champagne and then poor it down the drain (Swedish word "vasken"). This is what we call "vaska" in Swedish. And this is just to show that you can afford it basically. It's really silly, but almost no one does it anymore. But yeah, I think we can find find spoiled people in every country.

The Icelandic girl did start saying I love you in Finnish right but ended it with blah-blah-blah. But the two first out three words were right. I think all Nordic people know how to say I love you in each language, like in many languages. It’s an easy line. I know how to say it in all the Nordic languages plus in English (naturally, bc Swedes are very good at it bc we learn it at an early age), German, Spanish, French and Italian. But Finnish isn’t something you’d normally understand if you don’t speak it. It’s not part of the same language family.

My mother and her family moved to Sweden from Finland when she was a child. And sometimes when my mom brought her swedish friends over to play, my grandpa would walk in and calmly ask how her day was, in finnish. After he walked away my moms friends would ask my mom "why is he angry?" And my mom didn't understand what they were talking about. So yeah finnish sounds quite aggressive compared to the other nordic countries.

No, not all Stockholmers are snobby. But they have gotten that reputation to be, because city living and rural living is quite different. Also, Stockholm hold some of the richest neighbourhoods in all of the land where rich politicians and bosses live. I live near Stockholm and most I meet are decent people. Remember that in Sweden, there is a culture of not being snobby and haughty, so even richer people will try to tone down and not appear as rich as they really are. Also, I wouldnt take what a person with hot porrige in their mouth while speaking, say about Sweden seriously.

No no Dwayn you don't know what slow tv is, it can go on for hours a day for weeks, for example someone has set up a camera in the forest and you sit and wait for something to happen, 45 minutes in you see a bird, wait 3 more hours and you'll see another bird, after 78 hours you'll see a mouse, then after 4 more hours you'll see a bird, if you watch for a week maybe MAYBE if you're realy realy lucky you'll see a moose. So it's not about police chases that take 15-20 minutes, not at all this is on a completely different level and it makes you want to kill yourself The funny thing is that we other Nordic countries think that Icelandic sounds elfish. But saw some big language survey, where you had to choose the most beautiful language, it was quite genuinely done with people who didn't understand the language and many participants. There, Icelandic came in at the bottom as one of the ugliest languages to listen to. I've sometimes thought it would be pretty good if we were just one big nation. Feels like it would have been a damn good country. I know of course that many people don't want it, but it would also have had its advantages.

About the gay relationship legalisation in 1944. Norway and Denmark were, at that point, still under German occupation. Iceland was under Allied occupation, but it's not like that would have prevented them from working normally, so I guess Iceland would have been an option. They might have had bigger worries, though. Finland certainly had much bigger worries, and Finland isn't super progressive in general, anyway.

Indeed, Sweden has been quite progressive in many ways (even if we were a bit late on womens voting rights shamefully enough) culturally, but that has sadly started to change in the last 15 or so years. A scary wave of backwards-looking conservatism has sadly gotten it's grip on us swedes. A trend we're not alone about in neither Europe or the world.
