When I lived in Germany as a kid, my English dad really missed tea and then we figured out that some Indian shops in Germany sell PG tips. Then we found out Cologne had an "English shop", ran by English uni students and they were like a UK corner shop, selling all kinds of stuff we were missing like tea, baked beans, marmite, beano/dandy, HP sauce, cheddar, walkers, skips, dairylea, digestives, hobnobs etc.

Tea is its own plant, so technically only tea is tea. But in Germany the word Tee stands for many different hot water infusions.
@Sc4v3r
@Sc4v3r Месяц назад
That's not entirely correct. Tea is any drink made by pouring hot water over the leaves or buds of a plant. Originally, in the West, only one tea plant was meant, but only because we only knew one. The Orient, where tea comes from, knew different types of tea even then. Accordingly, the term tea has adapted to its true meaning, especially in Europe.

I absolutely enjoyed your reaction. I knew this one before and I waited for that tea scene. I didn't know that before, because brits just call it tea, what we call black tea - a tea between many others. And I like that tea, I liked mint tea as a kid, and always prefer black tea or fruit tee as an adult. Especially flavored with vanille. In that way I absolutely enjoyed the friendly, but slightly confused and secretly annoyed brit reacting here - both brits to be specific. Cheers to UK.

Germans are sarcastic, but mostly when they know each other very well. Some even like to go that far, that even we can't tell. Like me sometimes, because there is something wonderful when the other struggles, if you're actual serious or not. Maybe that's because he didn't get the Brits sarcasm here, me neither. But a German would not have given himself away in that situation. This and because there are that weird people too, it's tough sometimes. There are people who you actually believe he/she meant it serious. Can't explain it any better.

A real treat, especially on cold evenings. Ale, on the other hand, is a little too special for a German. Warm (8-12° C) beer is not really tasty. And we love sarcasm!

German do love bread, especially fresh dark bread & sausages. But there are different kind of sausages for like every food and some can be eaten without anything, with others it would be a crime to eat them just like that. Also the tea collection was not only herbal tea but also fruit tea 😂 but tbh most Germans would rather choose coffee - even in the afternoon (I'm more of a tea drinker, but anything except black tea - but when I was in London I bought english breakfast tea ... I jusy don't drink it....)

I like your reaction to the fact that a fraction of British tea comes from Kenya. Not from India or Sri Lanka. The amusing part of this ist, that tea doesn't originally come from India or Sri Lanka too. It was only imported there before it was planted. The origin is China, so when it coul be imported to India and Sri Lanka, why shouldn't it be possible to import it in Kenya?

In northern Germany a special fine mixture called "Ostfriesentee" is very popular. In former days I often drank black tea with a bit lemon! Don`t bothering the waiter, that could be ME, too! 😅

By the way, I'm pretty sure that I saw a bar in Dover that didn't just offer black tea. So I doubt that Brits only drink black tea. By the way, try a tea with camomile and peppermint, let it cool, add a spoonful of honey and a dash of lemon, maybe an ice cube, an unbeatable drink on warm days.

2:00 I heared rumors about british beer that you have to drink with fork and knife :D Okay im from Cologne, we have the best beer in the world. We even made our glasses smaller for the specific reason that you can keep it cool that way. 1 Kölsch (colonian beer) is 0.2 liters and its ment to be consumed within about 15minutes and its cold for the duration you drink it. And then you get the next fresh, cold 0.2 liters and then you can relax and drink that. So you drink like 0.8 liters an hour (for example) and all of that is fresh and ice cold where in bavaria you have 1 liter in one single glass for an hour. And that way its getting old and warm, maybe even flies start to appear around the glass, it starts to smell bad and all these things. And thats assuming you drink 1 liter bavarian beer within an hour. In cologne you can like jump into a bar, say hi, drink 0.2 liters of Kölsch and then you leave again. Its the best beer in the world and a delicacy and ment to be consumed like wine or whiskey in small but perfectly conditioned portions.
