@@TheOtherJohnBrowne yeah, the speaker sounds like a really good broken in v30 combined with a good broken in G12M 25w greenback speaker. It sits pretty well in the middle between those two speakers, and I like both of them quite a lot.
I think for your next speaker, you should review an Eminence Private Jack 50w 8ohm speaker. It's a g12m greenback clone but sounds a lot smoother, with a tight low end and very articulate. Maybe something you're interested in. I think it's the ideal sounding greenback that can do vintage and modern tones pretty well.
It's really good to have so many viable options these days. But to me hand down, once your ears gets adjusted to the odd frequency change of the V30, there isn't a more aggressive speaker out there that I've heard on RU-vid or in person.
I have to go back and listen to the end commentary still, but I'm sold. When I free up some funds I'm probably going to order at least one depending on the cab I put it in. It seems to fill out some of the frequencies I tend to bump in a mix when using other speakers, and it rolls off a bit earlier/steeper than the V30, but not to the point of feeling dark, which I like. It mixed really well too. I particularly liked it with the Mamzer, but I'd be more than happy with any of them.
If you have an upper-mids heavy speaker, a Redback or Eminence Swamp Thang might balance it out since both are bit darker and feature more low-end. I am working on blending the DV-77 with a Redback and just got a ST in hand as well. I might shoot out the Redback and the ST since they seem to fill a similar niche.
I have a Redback with a WGS Veteran 30 (there take on a better v30) and it sounds killer! Not as good as with the WGS Reaper HP tho. I love WGS speakers and next I’m going to grab a et-90 based on creamback 75. Still would like to try a do-77/Swamp Thang combo too

Thanks for this demo. I like the steeper rolloff of the Fane a lot. Also want to thank you for your method. Your playing choices are very helpful to hear what I need and limiting to two speakers is ideal. Great demo.
Another great rundown, John! I became a fan of the F70 when Steve Fryette started using them in place of the Eminence P50's that were in his Fat Bottom cabinets for a long time (which I love, especially matched with his amps). As far as the Fane... I personally think the Fane F90 is even better for metal than the F70. I'd love to see a "other John Browne" F70 vs F90 comparison and blend. Also looking forward to your Redback breakdown... I have them and love them.
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne Your riffs are fine, my friend. I expect to hear them whenever I watch your videos. lol IMO, the P50 is a little finicky... it sounds glorious with some amps and not so special with others. It's not like a V30 that works with almost everything, at least in my experience.
I love the p50e, but it's a really dry speaker. I definitely agree that it doesn't get along with all amps, at least on it's own. I do find that it mixes really well though.
It's so great to get good sounding IRs of other than just the regular old V30, Greenbacks, T75 or whatever. I've always loved Fane speakers so I really appreciate the packs on Patreon! Btw, are you planning to create a full pack of IRs for the LCFR-150? The ones you provided for free were seriously good sounding!
Fanes passing out!. Great demo!. Funny thing is i got rid of the V30 years ago when I was more into those deep tighter chugs, but didn't like the hiss. Now that im playing stoner metal, I think I'll go back. I think that's what is missing from my sound. But man, the Fane sounds much better on the cleans, fuller and sweeter. Im currently running a DV70 and Eminence Hempdog.
When I was still able to play, I researched every speaker out there. I just couldn’t find any Fane speakers in the US. I went with a Warehouse Reaper HP and paired it with a British made G12T-75. I still wanted that F70 in my cab. It sounds so great for metal.
I like the pairing of the Fane & V30 in the same cabinet played together. They compliment each other. I love the V30 but it sometimes sounds a bit nasal to me. I've been mixing V30s & G12T-75s in my cab builds and I love how they sound together. I may just try a Fane with a V30 on my next build. For those of us that suffer from the eternal tone chase, you know what I mean.
Another great video John. Really appreciate your work. Listening on some Focal be6's, but its really hard not listening in the room. The F70 sounded like an "HD" vintage 30. It was lacking mid snarl and low end, contrary to the graph you displayed. These might sound like negatives, but are completely application specific, I would use the F70 in a low tuned black metal song over the V30 for instance, but would go V30 for a Mastodon type thing. When the LCFR-150 came on, my ears immediately rested and I thought to myself wow, I didn't realize my ears were that tired. There was way less fizz in the LCFR. I don't think anyone can really declare a winner here (besides us, your viewers). These are all great speakers and are application specific. Tuning and genre can play a role in speaker choice, for instance, I hate my creamback H75s unless Im tuned to at least D standard or lower, then they are perfect for tightening up drop C riffs.
Excellent work, as always John! Kudos! I think the F70 would be good in a Mesa cab, as the jude cloth would remove some of the high frequencies which you find ear fatiquing. Also, the lows sound very tight, so this speaker could work well with a recto 🤘
I love fane speakers. They punch way above their price point. But I think you need the WEM cabinets or their look. To compete with the market of 4*12 and 2*12 and 1*12 market of cabinets. One thing I miss. That is a aluminum dustcover. An excellent way to get a tweeter esk sound. Just like the old EV speakers had. They are still searched after just for that quality. I would pay premium If I can have that in my next 4*12 twelve inch speaker cabinet.
Try the Clestion G15v-100 if you get the chance. Basically a 15 inch greenback. I have a 2x15 with them in and absolutely my favourite speakers I've ever used. I've really gone off v30's in recent years, so I much preferred the Fane in this video!
One of the worst videos to watch in my current situation. I had been planning on blending an F70 and a DV-77 but this LCFR-150 has completely ruined my plans. I don’t know what to do EITHER now lol Thanks for the great video as always and I wish you all the best!
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne for what it’s worth I went ahead and did a shootout using your DV-77, F70, and LCFR-150 irs in stereo using Neural’s Granophyre and Gojira plugins and a clean DI track. My conclusion is that the LCFR is definitely the most different of the three, and the DV-77 and F70 cover a lot more of the same ground than I expected when blended with the LCFR. I think the DV-77 is a better blend with the LCFR. I adore the F70 but I think it does much better on its own. Hope this helps!
I really liked the Mamzer too. I also knew nothing about it. I could hear differences between it and the F70. Both sounded great. I did not like the LCFR 150 after listening to the Fane/Mamzer speakers. Look forward to the Redback vid! I already own a pair. Very curious to hear what you think?
With this speakers open airy top end, I'm curious what it would sound like in a cab with more rigid upper mids, maybe something frontloaded to eliminate that slight boxiness that I feel like you get From rear loaded speakers projecting through the baffle hole
That was nice. Honestly I'm missing geek talk you made in the begining of testing speackers. I mean graph analisys in mid freq. I hear F70 much different than Mamzer in your video. Probably because of mic position. Mamzer seems more crunchy. How is it feel in the room ?
I'm really surprised that I prefer the Fane F70 over the V30. The Fane Mamzer has less spike in the top end than the F70. Both are very cool speakers. The Fane Lichtlaerm didn't impress me at all.
Excellent video once again! Idea - Jensen released a 12" speaker called the Silverbird earlier this year. Would you be able to try it out? There isn't much info out there about it but it sounds like it's good for heavy music.
Someone mentioned that speaker the other day. I'm down to try any speaker. Just need to spend my money wisely. If I see a used one at a decent price, I'll certainly get it
Do the Fanes play well with Celestions? I just got a K100 loaded Diezel cab and don't want to limit myself with V30s and K100s in it. I already have a cab with V30s and redbacks. Fanes seem like a nice option. I know Eminence and Celestion rarely get along together in the same cab.
Fane? I was very fascinating about these speakers, but after your test….Nah, probably one of the very few moments where a liked Original V30 more. I didn’t like that Fane had that hollow mid thing, similar to G12K100 that I had in my Diezel cab. That speakers were very fast, precise, but kinda empty sounding. Anyway LCFR150 sounded much nicer here.
Will I do videos on current Greenback and Creamback speakers? Likely yes! Will I do a video on every Green- and Creamback like I did for the Vintage 30? Probably not
i hate myself for even asking, but is it possible for you to compare your fav. vintage 30, vs a Lichtlaerm vs a seventy 80? ugh, i hate myself for even mentioning a seventy 80, but it would come in SO handy for me as a reference to direct people to as to why the seventy 80 is such garbage and showing them with actual 'scope readings so that it is just further proof as to why the seventy 80 only belongs in the trash and not in any combo amp or cab... i would really like to see that comparison though..... please?
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne they are pretty cheap, even new. well, they are where i am at. where i live, you can get them for new or used for alot less than any other celestion branded speaker. they are cheap for a reason tho, i have to say.... if you put sound through one, youll understand. lol
in my 60 second skip through, I hate the F70 and prefer the V30. The F70 has that annoying (Sea shell in the ear) sound when you mic it up although Greenbacks have that same effect when mic'd but in the room it sounds way way better. Arghhh I dunno, I'm drunk.... cheers.
