The 757, by far my most favourite passenger jet. It looks just right and has always given me a comfortable flight to where I need to go. Those Rolls Royce RB211s are beasts. LOVE that buzzsaw sound on take off.
I was cabin crew for this great airline based at Gatwick in 1995-1996. Fantastic memories, and fantastic training up at Castle Donnington. Still have my Britannia photo album to look back on with great fondness, and my wings which doubled up as our name badge.
I flew with Britannia Airways between London Luton Airport and Malaga in December 1995. This was my first flight since August 1986. The staff on board the flight were brilliant. I haven't flown to Malaga since then, but that flight and the professionalism of the staff will always stay in my mind. This is a good video, too!
So sad that my kids will never be able to see the cockpit of an aircraft in flight ☹️ Saw the pilot every flight when I was a kid. Remember going on the flight deck with my brother and sister on a flight to Orlando. It was a BA 747-200 and it was quite a squeeze with 3 kids, the pilot, co pilot and flight engineer!
Happy memories ... I worked for Britannia for a couple-of-years in the early-90s ... they were a great team of people and it was always a thrill, working with people on holiday, and the romance of travel did still exist back then. I actually worked on the financial-side, of buying/leasing the first fleet of six B757-200s, they were a great aircraft for the charter-airline industry, and Britannia was perhaps a bit slow to spot that, previously we'd had B737-200s (plus a couple of -300s from the Orian Air takeover) and B767-200s. We maximised the aircraft-use, ideally getting three return-trips from them every 24-hours, and in winter (when demand was much lower) we were working to develop long-haul to the USA & Australia/New-Zealand.
Yes I miss Britainna, they set standards for charter airlines and air 2000 followed. It's a shame that one sight that we won't see anymore and that's children in the flight deck whilst airborne.... I used to love it when I was a kid.
Flew Luton to Perth, Western Australia with Britannia on a B767 in January 1990. Refuelled/restocked at Bahrain and Singapore on the way. It was my first long haul flight and was a route that Britannia had on recently taken on. Was a fantastic flight. Great goody bag and I remember the stewardess giving me half a bottle of red to finish (I'd drunk the first half). Good memories.
This is so cool. I'm cabin crew at TUI Airways, formerly known as Thomson, and before that, Britannia Airways! Crew still talk about those brilliant Australia flights on the 767-200, and quite a few of them are still flying! (The crew, not the 762's! 😅) Thank you for your memory.
feeltheforce10 - Rubbish!! Still flying today as TUI. Still operating holiday charter flights to the same destinations. Keep your silly pointless comments to yourself.
Fanny Fflapz admittedly I don’t work in aviation, but am well versed for a non flyer: these days the T’s & C’s have been eroded, and I’ve spoken to crew at a very Big Airline who say things like the EASA FTLs and the mixed fleet contract have ruined it for certainly the Cabin Crew. I say crew because I hate the term steward(ess) - acquiescing to pax melancholy whims is about 10% of their job. They know sooooooo much more than people think. Anyway, I can see both sides of the argument; there’s room for both opinions 😃
Oh the great memories of flying with Britannia for the Summer Holidays. Plus the visits to the flight deck! And how a certain group managed to ruin it for everyone.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Beau Omari thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm in the hacking process now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Im petrified of flying . I am 42, and have only ever flown to and from Malta and Majorca , malta in 1988 and and majorca in 1989 aged 7 and 8.Both times i flew with Britannia. The logos, the furnishing, the professionalism of the staff and everything ive seen in this video is burnt in my mind forever. I remember the cabin staff obviously realised how scared i was and allowed me into the cabin without my mum to put my mind at rest. That was the only time i have ever flown and been completely at ease. I remember the pilot saying "dont press any buttons" i said "i wont" the crew then all burst out laughing. I am now a plane nerd and know a lot of technical stuff about planes , mechanically and otherwise, despite currently not being of the belief planes are technologically advanced enough still to be safe to relaibly fly. Maybe in another 20 years. In the meantime, easyjet, ryanair and all those other budget operators need to take a leaf out of britannias book when it comes to customer service. Shame to hear there not about anymore and obviously wernt earning any money as this video shows.
I remember flying with Britannia to Palma from Manchester, it seems like a lifetime ago now. My mate`s brother in law was a steward with them, he progressed onto the flight deck as a first officer.
@@stephensmith4480 I've always enjoyed hearing about people, whose self made success stories like your friend's, are truly an inspiration to others. Absolutely fantastic.
I flew on a 767 in 91 from Birmingham to Orlando. At 8 years old I saw two things that kids will never see again: a working cockpit and a smoking section!
Reminds me of my first flight on a Britannia 757 from Birmingham to Malta. I was 10 and petrified. A very nice stewardess came and spoke to me and calm me down a bit. Since then I became an aviation enthusiast 👍.
I flew on the 757 and 767 from gatwick to alicante fabulous aircraft pity there being phased out good reliable aircraft better than the aircraft you get nowadays
Alan Jackson Absolutely, flew with both back in the day & the flights were full of smiles from passengers & a vivacious crew. Happy days. Such a shame.
@@bendingspring I was only a child, probably only 7 or 8. Air 2000 used to hand out menus for the in flight service. I was amazed because I'd never encountered that before. They really set the standard for the charter airline industry, especially with their new 757s at that time.
How sad to see AG on the end of this video , I was working at CWL in Sept 1999 and I marshalled this aircraft in the morning for the last time , In the evening it flew to Girona and crash landed in a thunderstorm and broke into 3 pieces, amazingly all survived but one sadly died that tragic night.
Back in the days when PC wasn’t a thing and people smiled and conversed with each other. I remember flying on 757s as a kid every summer, workhorse of the British airlines and a real aeroplane!
Kids won’t get to see the pilots up front anymore.. I thought Britannia was great airline. Great memories of holidays with mates back in the 80’s and 90’s..
Ah - the days when saying you were going to get drunk didn't get you marked as an unsafe passenger and forcibly signed onto an alcohol abuse programme!
The days when the stewardesses where nice and pleasant and a pleasure to talk to unlike the old scowly hags or teenage kids you get nowadays who just mutter and scowl to you. Always a pleasure to fly BT..
@@matthewsmith2787 in the old days they were pilotes and had to go to pilot school , nowadays modern plaines can fly themselves so only need a driver to make sure everything is ok but some people like to still call them the capain :-)
