Just went through Heathrow Terminal 4 last year. It feels so dull and lifeless there without British Airways. And the magic and glory of the Landor livery was sorely missed.
Very cool tails. But ultimately it damaged the brand whose existing customers claimed it made BA 'less British', hence the move back to the more 'patriotic' flag symbol, albeit a modernised version
dunno if anyone cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my girlfriend for the last weeks :)
They were until Margaret Thatcher gave her distaste of the colours along with the general public by putting a handkerchief on the tailfin on a plastic model of a British Airways Boeing 747-400. So British Airways decided to paint the tailfin on each aircraft in the entire fleet in the Chatham Dock Union Flag Livery including their new and existing aircraft in the fleet just like on their Concord fleet because that livery is still an absolute beauty today 23 years on. The reason why because the Chatham Dock Union Flag Livery is very patriotic and traditional to British Airways.
Excellent stuff. I actually learned how to speak while onboard one of these Boeing 747s (Singapore Airlines) when I was five. I used my primitive English skillset to talk to a "Singapore Girl" (a Singapore Airlines flight stewardess). In fact, She was the first person I had a conversation with (and NOT my mom, who was sitting right next to me).
Good to see 'Zulu Kilo' in there. I was at the unveiling of the 'Utopia' livery in 1997, I nearly vomited that day, I still feel the same when I see these tails today.
Yes, those tails were, and still are, absolutely nonsense. They are called BRITISH Airways for a reason. At least Chelsea Rose looks pretty good. Most others are just garbage (although I think Waves and Cranes looks ok-ish)
I wasn't a huge fan of the world tails back when they were introduced. This was most likely due to them replacing what arguably was the best airplane livery ever conceived. Considering how bland, uninspired and homogeneous contemporary liveries have become, I now have a renewed appreciation of them. In fact, had they been introduced at any other point in time - I'd laud them as a masterpiece. I wish BA kept at least some of them around. At least they will live on through your videos and enthusiast photos. Who knows, maybe one day some airline will do something like this again. One can dream.
Ummm...no...those tails were hideous to look at then ...and still are. How could BA have changed from that wonderful , smart, dignified Landor scheme to all that woeful graffiti? Thankfully they got the “art” out of their system after a few years and standardised with the current livery which is at least slightly more acceptable.
Anderson Rodriguez have you not seen the A330, A350 etc? The only one which didn’t sell well was the A340 due to regulation changes allowing twin engines aircraft to cross vast oceans, hence the B777 became a success
Anderson Rodriguez then airbus came along. The B757 and B767 could be replaced with the A321 and A330. The B757 should have been developed further, such a fantastic aircraft, unlike the B737 max. Airbus now have the most quiet and comfortable aircraft thanks to the A350 and A380, pretty much agreed by most travellers. Not a fan of the B787, over rated if you ask me. I would take the B777 over it any day
