Genta Robins would be unlikely to be able to fly across the oceans. Hedgehogs are not native to the United States/North America. You can get Nile Monitors at pet stores, too, but that doesn't mean they're native to the United States.
@mels2757
@mels2757 9 лет назад
Genta the USA doesn't have any *native* hedgehogs I think is the point. Same with the robin - which is definitely not the same in the USA as the robin in the UK (www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Robin/id versus en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_robin)

We have pine martens and red squirrels here in the US. But, like the robin, they are different species we use the same names for. We have badgers too. Ours aren't the cutesy Hufflepuff old brocks though. These things will face down rattlers and not bat an eye, and chase after trucks that get too close to their dens.

@Neenerella333
@Neenerella333 7 лет назад
Honey Badgers live in Africa. We have badgers that are different than the black and white ones in Britain, but those are not the ones in the Honey Badger videos. We have martens, but mostly we have blackfooted ferrets, weasels, fishers, and wolverines(the biggest kind of weasel). We don't have stoats either. They're like a light brown version of the pine marten in this video.

When I was working on the BT network some years ago , I found a gang of the little guys in an underground network box. As they are a protected species, we had to inform the local council to look after them. A few hundred metres down the road, there was another box with a colony of a hundred or so red and black spiders with hourglass markings on their backs. I was the only person not petrified to get into the pit... Fun times. As an aside, I am surprised not to see the British badger included in this list.
@dovershores3929

Sian Greenwood Unfortunately she was wrong about them not being in America. We call them glass snakes and they are very common at least in Florida. Caught many of them myself. Not slimy and have no teeth to speak of and completely harmless.

@chrisjenkins2099 9 лет назад
No you're still being obtuse, because you will find pine martens and red squirrels in America and even if they are different species the differences exist on a purely genetic level that is unnoticeable to the naked eye (in fact at one time they were considered the same species before genetic testing was possible). Clearly the aim of this video was to showcase animals that might seem unusual to Americans. By your logic they could have put brown bears, bison, crows, or pigeons in this video just because they are technically different species than the American variants but of course all Americans are very familiar with those animals so it wouldn't make sense to do so.
@750joshua
@750joshua 9 лет назад
Chris Jenkins No, but what I mean is that if they are a different species, they're fine to be shown in the vid, regardless if thre's an animal which looks the same but is genetically different..

The only animal on my list that you "have", is the Himalyan porcupine which is terrestrial and very small and meek, while ours is arboreal and quite large. The slow worm is called a glass lizard or legless lizard here in the states. They are common in the sand land of the Southeastern US.

Growing up in the 80’s finding Hedgehogs and slow worms I’m your garden was commonplace. I rarely see Hedgehogs now (I have a space set aside especially for hedgehogs so I get them coming into my back garden) and I haven’t seen a wild slow worm for years.

Robins are associated with Christmas because Victorian postmen, at the time when Christmas cards were introduced, wore red waistcoats and were nicknamed 'Robin'. That's why, on so many Christmas cards even today, robins sit on post boxes or carry mail bags.

Robins know no fear. I've had them stand on my foot many times when I've been digging the garden.

I love the squirels in Hyde Park. I saw one run up a guy's leg to steal chips. *Laughs*

My favorite is the wild Rowan Atkinson. Catching a glimpse of one in their natural habitat is breathtaking! :D

The only reason I subscribed to Anglophenia was to look at Siobhan Thompson while she explained arcane British stuff. So, TTFN.
