Just a quick dive into how PLCE came about. A huge improvement over the previous 58 pattern, the PLCE system has had multiple updates since to improve and modernize it. Interestingly you can still find all sorts of previous versions of it in service if you look hard enough.
PLCE for the mean time is a great bit of surplus that still is plentiful, cheap & cheerful, making it a good start for making a webset on a budget. We regularly stock these, but as with all things surplus, they don't always appear on demand so bag yourself a set today up in our bio!

We were so relieved when we got our PLCE in 1991.

Its funny you still get some geezers who swear 58 pat was better but I think there is a lot of rose tinted glasses going on and no substance. All the British squaddies Ive heard from thought the improvement was night and day!

great kit considering most modern kit options are not split rigs, and the ones that are want you to sell a kidney to buy one without the pouches to fill it out lol, some tips, i use tie straps on the pull tabs for the pouches about 1/2in up from the triangle pieces to keep the tabs from sticking out, i use the external pouch tiedown points for stuff like my mosquito net carry sack and my multitool, i run the GP pouch on my right front instead of the 2nd mag pouch, and i dont have a 5th back pouch

something I do with my own kit as well, remove excess strapping by taping up. For load all depends on what your using it for and what with - wearing standalone, with a flak vest or under a plate carrier or even how skinny (or not) you are!

Sounds like you are reading a Wikipedia script! 😆 as an American I do like the PLCE style belt kit in combination with a chest rig.

just bumbling my words on camera hahaha. Ill get there eventually in time I hope 😅🤣 definitely, much better than a Y harness. Seals off mags nicely from debris which a lot of 'high speed' pouches don't do these days. Can have a chestrig to maintain those if one wanted to in combination.

Nice vid, the British came out with all good gear that is still usable to this day. Also, did you know if i could use the plce side pouches from the bergen onto the plce webbing, and my side pouches didn't come with stitched on buckles to clip on...?

Cheers mate! Not really - at least not plug and play style. You can jimmy up tying the straps through the webbing loops up at the top and tying to the belt at the bottom, or otherwise modifying them. But to be honest, its probably a better option to wear the side pouch yoke over the top of your webbing so you can remove and access at any moment. Most guys opt to use the patrol pack over these traditionally I believe.

@@armyand_Outdoors in the official plce instructions there are official steps for attaching the side pouches to the main yoke, it’s available if you Google it 👍

Particularly liked !!??,hated by everyone. One size fitted no-one, soaked water up like a sponge and weighed half as much again when wet. Large pack was just a shapeless sack that clipped on . If you wanted to take pack off the whole thing had to come off. Just a mess.

Talking about those who transitioned from 58 patt to PLCE. World of difference but if you came in after and thats all you had experience with first, no doubt a lot less fond in the suck im sure
