You guys should check out "The Steeldrivers" by The Steeldrivers, Chris Stapleton was the lead singer and guitarist in his really early days, quite a few good songs on that album! Loved seeing this reaction video!

You should watch the CMA awards with Patty Loveless and Cris Stapleton singing “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. This is a haunting country song about men working in the coal mines. I live in Harlan County, KY and my late husband, my father and both grandfathers worked in the coal mines.

You should also check out Chris Stapleton’s first band the Steeldrivers they had a bunch of incredible songs before he went solo (my personal favorites being “where rainbows never die” and “sticks that made thunder”) just a suggestion but both are great songs and tell interesting stories if you pay close attention to the lyrics. This song is actually quite an old song. David Allen Coe did the song first after George Strait turned it down. Dean Dillon wrote the song, he always offered his best songs to him first. Dillon was gonna give it to Johnny Paycheck after Strait turned it down but he was in jail. Thats how Coe ended up with it. Of course it wasn't a big hit until George Jones cut the song a couple of years later. If you go back and listen to Coe or Jones version of the song it sounds completely different than the way Stapleton does the song. Most people don't even know it's a cover it's so different.
A great reaction. He has many good songs that are worth covering. Since you commented on the smoothness with a live performance, I'm going to suggest another country artist. Roy Clark. He is from much earlier, but was a master guitarist and entertainer. I'd suggest his cover of Folsom Prison Blues. Either his solo version from early in his career (black and white) or his duet of the song with Johnny Cash. Again thanks for your reactions.

Millie in the U.S. if you come from a town in the middle of nowhere, the kind if place that requires a 30 minute drive to go grocery shopping and yoy grow up on country music? You're proud of that place
Do you all know the history and Tennessee and Kentucky whiskey and that of nearby states? Preduction began during colonial times as settlers pushed westward across the Appalachian Mountains. In the new lands their farms were often quite productive and they had surpluses of grain--rye, barley, wheat, corn--that was too difficult to try to export back across the mountains to the east so they began distilling it into whiskey (some of these people were Scots and Irish farmers familiar with distillation techniques from their homelands). Unfortunately, the first tax that the new United States Congress passed in 1791, to assist in paying off the Revolutionary War debt, was a tax on distilled spirits. To the Western settlers in regions that were not yet states, this smacked of the tax on tea passed by another distant legislature (Parliament) and they rebelled in something called the "Whiskey Rebellion" that lasted until 1794. President Washington himself led an army of 20,000 troops to suppress it but the distillers and their forces fled and there was no actual battle. Over time, about 150 distillers were arrested for violating the tax law. But subsequently the more mountainous regions of East Tennessee and Kentucky, along with adjacent Virginia and West Virginia, became centers of illegal, untaxed whiskey production ("moonshine"). Naturally, this production really boomed during Prohibition. But it goes on to this day. I've had some genuine Tennessee moonshine whiskey--it's deadly powerful (whereas the legal stuff can be very smooth and sophisticated these days).
