My son has been bowling at the White House. When he was in primary school, a classmate’s mother was part of the First Lady’s staff. She was able to reserve the bowling alley for her child’s birthday and invited the class to attend. It was an overall cool experience for my son and he still has fond memories.

This video was just a basic introductory to the White House. Because he did not cover the sublevels of the White House. Most of which can't be shown publicly due to National Security. The bomb shelter and the sublevels that go down about ten floors were added in 1952.

Yes this is a very basic layout of the White House. Every president can also change and remodel almost any room they may want the President can also change a rooms purpose. There are tunnels, a bunker and underground parking for presidential vehicles and those of diplomatic visitors.

The basic layout is public knowledge because the public owns the property, and up until a few decades ago they did pretty extensive tours open to the public.

Back in the 1960's my school went on a field trip to Washington DC. I remember when we went to the White House, we did indeed visit the red, green and blue rooms. Everything in those rooms is as they say. Drapes Furniture and carpet is Red Green and Blue in each room.

You can see rooms on this video: Inside the White House on a Public Tour on RU-vid - it's 7 small chapters . . but pretty good! Of course there are parts that the public will never see -- nor will they ever show the massive security/bunkers etc.. The reason there are things like a theater, and, a bowling alley, is because, the president, and, his family can't just go out, and, go bowling, or, go to the movies. For the president to go anywhere requires massive preparation, planning, and, co-ordination with local law enforcement. So much so, that the president is basically a prisoner of his position.

That's interesting , you will see former prime ministers (u.k. ) freely doing other jobs after they've left office , I'm guessing this is beacause we have our monarch as head of state who is consistent and always there but prime ministers are disposable and not seen as the all powerful no. 1 .

They aren’t allowed to drive themselves & can’t engage in certain sporting activities Obama had said he wasn’t allowed to water ski. He did it before & after he was in office but he couldn’t do it while he was in office

President Truman opened the first White House bowling alley on Apr 25, 1947, Nixon used it often. There is also a bowling alley at Camp David.

Yes, this is just a general description that’s given to the public. There are guaranteed rooms in areas of the building that are only known by the Secret Service and those who need to know like we don’t even know where the presidents bunker is.

There are some tunnels under the White House but we dont' know where they go. There are also hidden doors throughout the whitehouse.

Back during the US Civil War period 1861- 18654 when President Lincoln was in office the general public had access to the White House even during the early part of the Civil War, that also way before the East and West Wing were built, West Wing was first constructed in 1902 and West Wing was added in 1942 and they've both been expanded since then.

Not sure how old this is, but classified underground construction wrapped up just a few years ago. There's a bunker, underground tunnels to other buildings and who knows what under there.

Even though it was completely gutted under Truman, ( bull dozers digging in the the basement). The original house has the damaged outer section where your blokes set it on fire and shot at it. But it's certainly much bigger than # 10 Downing St.

I think the bowling ally was added in the 1950s when bowling was popular as a family activity Edit: Double checked. I was wrong. The current bowling alley was added in 1973 by President Nixon. There was a bowling alley installed in the west wing in 1947 by President Truman but it was moved to another section in 1955 when there was a great deal of renovation going on at the White House (that was the time period that the basements & tunnels were starting to be built)

The original bowling alley was built by Truman, in the current Situation Room of the West Wing. Nixon installed the current bowling alley in 1969.

Hi Beesleys, hope the baby has come or comes soon. I believe it was President Eisenhower that put the bowling alley in, or one of the presidents before FDR. Ike was a very active person when in the White House I think he also had some putting greens added to the grounds as well. I was surprised that the video didn't mention the Lincoln bedroom, it is one of the more well-known rooms in the White House. Also, across from the small parking lot next to the west wing is the old executive building, which has a number of offices as well. This is where most of the staff works. Although, most of the cabinet members have their own buildings which are some distance from the WH. The Pentagon is across the river in Virginia. So most of the staff with the president at the WH are staffers and not cabinet officials. Keep up the great work and good luck with the little one.

It was Truman back in the 1940s Eisenhower had it moved in the late 50s, and Nixon moved it or had a different one installed-in the basement (not much info on which it was) as Nixon liked bowling.

The Lincoln Bedroom was, during the Lincoln Administration, the Cabinet Room before being moved to the West Wing. Refurbishing happened during the Kennedy Administration and is now used as the main Guest Room.

Supposedly there is a not so secret tunnel leading to the Treasury Building next door …. And another tunnel to a building off site that holds the executive offices. The capitol Building has similar tunnels connecting the Capitol to most if not all of the congressional office buildings and a number of other buildings…..back during Spring Break of 2009 my family went to DC for vacation and we got tickets for the Senate Tour from out Senator…. Unfortunately on that day someone tried to breach security with a firearm and the entire building went on lockdown….. we got escorted nearly 60 underground into the massive curving Tunnel and sheltered in place for hours….. when they finally sorted us out (children had gotten separated from families) they took us through side passages and we ended up nearly a mile away , coming straight up into the outdoors through a hidden ramp in the sidewalk

These kinds of videos often omit important obvious things for some reason. I remember one on the unique important geographic economic advantages the US has, and they omitted the Great Lakes. Here there was no mention of the famous Lincoln bedroom, which means that a staircase was mentioned, but the Lincoln bedroom was not. You were great, as always.

I have had the privilege of getting yelled at by the secret service in the White House lol. When I visited Washington DC when I was about 10 years old, my parents decided to go to all of the monuments as well as the White House on the same day. By the time I got into the White House my legs were sore from all of the walking I had already done. I decided to sit on one of the staircases to rest my legs, and the Secret Service was immediately in my face telling me I couldn't sit down. I understood why they yelled at me, but at the same time there was nowhere for anyone to sit down to take a rest.

The video you are watching would be more interesting if they actually showed you pictures of what these rooms look like. Do a search for Christmas tours with First Ladies Also when the Ted Lasso cast visited this summer, they did some bowling.

Why wouldn’t they have a bowling alley? They need entertainment like any other family would want. It’s not like they can just go out and do stuff. Their home needs to fulfill many different functions. And Joe is a down to earth guy I’m sure he bowls with his grandkids. As did The Obama bowl with their family.

Our Junior trip in High School was to Washington. We visited the White House and I remember being surprised by how small the rooms were but then one had to take in the fact that in was a different day and people were even smaller in those times. Nor sure they resumed tours since 9/11. Other historical sites moved me much more than the White House.

They must still have tours, I remember not long ago they found mysterious powder and said it was found in an area where tours usually go through. I think the powder turned out to be nothing special though.

I just went to the White House a few weeks ago and I got to meet Joe and Jill Biden and got a picture with them which was really awesome! It is definitely a very secure place. There is Secret Service everywhere and on the roof they are ready for anything.

"What's Inside of the White House?" Some things are best not discussed in polite company. "What's inside of your city's sewer system" would be a less revolting topic of conversation (and no, it's not just the current contents of the building that are disgusting).
