There are very very very few guitarists who ever reach this level of proficiency ... to reach this level at 17 is simply incomprehensible. Show this video to ANY guitarist and their jaw will hit the floor. Her speed and accuracy is stunning. She was at 17 one of the top guitarists in the world ... bar none.

Lisa X and hundreds of others have done it at 8 years old CK her out. She got Paul Gilberts attention and he invited her over to jam so at that age she's jamming with the best at this type of stuff. Still not for me. I find it boring. Like Yngwie after 3 minutes boring gotta walk out JMO

I've been playing for 45 years. I have my master's degree in solo classical guitar performance. I'm considered to be very talented. Compared to this incredibly gifted lady, who I'm convinced is an alien from a far more technically developed planet, my playing sounds like my instrument. Is 4 rusty metal strings attached to a long steel pipe. Folks, you are listening to as close to perfection as it gets. I was at a concert in Lyon, France with her and Joe Satriani. They were playing simultaneously and at one point, Joe just stopped playing and walked over to Tina just to watch her. His face had a look of sheer joy and disbelief. When asked what he thought of Tina's playing, he stammered and murmured, "Fuck me sideways. She passed genius level lifetimes ago and has achieved perfection." this, from Joe Satriani, a true God.

Thanks Fil :) you know why I'm thanking you :) I've heard very recently that Tina S deliberately left RU-vid because of some very nasty comnents/allegations/accusations that she's a fraud. Further, it's been said that she "speeds up the video to make it appear to be faster“. My response to that is as follows: the ONLY sort of person who could be stupid enough to make such a notion public couldn't be a guitarist. Or, if they are, they are enraged by the fact that a 17 year old could exhibit such mastery, and they themselves will never amount to anything more than a pint of piss. We REAL guitarists are only too aware of what both her hands are doing, and listen carefully you ignorant trolls, her hands match the sound output. I'm deeply offended (but not at all surprised) that anybody would soil such purity and brilliance with these jealous, petty accusations. I've reached out to her in a series of long tweets in French, reassuring her that her presence is vital to the guitar playing community. She has value. You trolls are mere placeholders. You Fil, your reaction vids are the best because you articulate what the players are doing in terms we understand. Most of the other vid reactions are genuine, but "fuck, what the.... Shit dude, what?" just doesn't feed the admiral's cat :) Keep doing your quality analyses. They are as valuable and appreciated as the playing. Cheers!

 OG Gamer Palm Springs, CA randolph timm plays with such carelessness? Your question, or your point, doesn't make much sense. That, or you didn't communicate it on the level that you intended, because my take away was "what did he just say?" I'm very reluctant to discuss my own credentials until I encounter a post like yours. You say that you "obviously" interact with gifted, or on the spectrum kids. How is this obvious to a group of total strangers? I said earlier that I have a master's degree in solo classical guitar performance. But, being the insane over achiever that i am, I also have a PhD in Psychology, Deviancy and Aberrant Behavior. So I'm not understanding your post at all. Can you rephrase it maybe? I'd actually like to pursue this aspect of the convo. And to the illiterate fool calling Dolphin all kinds of ridiculous things, I'd put those stones back in your pocket, bro. @@MrAtrophy Agreed, it's very well practised but with no feel. Pure sign of autistic savant and/or OCD, like all those young Asian "genius" pianists. I've observed Tina's maturation over the years. Some years ago she was totally anti-social, with the same mechanical obsession on the fretboard. Gradually, from all the accolades and Facebook support, she's become a a little more sociable (when not playing) -- very similar to Angelina Jordan. Sigh ... many people are so often impressed with virtuosic fireworks they can't discriminate feel from technique.

@divorcedme No my friend, I'm not claiming to be a "better" guitar player than TinaS, just adding my 2 cent's worth of information and opinion relevant to the OPs statement re facial expressions. If you look about the world you will notice this common thread, that musicians of many kinds make varying facial expressions dependent upon the nervous processes in their brain (mind), some of which reveal concentration or relaxation, stressful contortions or blissful peace, etc, and some are just plain blank. Let me ask you -- how can some "genius" musician, at the cutting edge of virtuosity, NOT make expressive indications of their extreme nervous processes? Every high level player does it to some extent. But observe the behaviours and expressions of those with autism spectrum and you will notice the similarities of "not being there" emotionally. TinaS sometimes chews gum while playing. Do you know why? It is a device to stop teeth grinding, coming from an extremely tense jaw (ie unconscious brain sectors), unable to be relaxed by will power. Just saying. Along with the mechanistic feel of her playing commented by many other guitarists not overly "amazed" by her fast fingerwork, it's all just part of the syndrome. Like it or leave it according to taste; understand it better or just live with a misunderstanding. Not my business.

The people who say that need to watch the original video all the way through to the end. It's only a few frames, less than a second at the end but as the piece ends and she returns to earth from so "deep in the zone" you see the huge, natural, 17-year-old smile start to appear. It's the same with any instrument or with vocals. During the performance of something so demanding you often seem to "go blank" because there is *nothing* but the music. The rest of the world doesn't exist. It's when it ends that the rush hits....
@Varksterable

There has been research done showing that the way a performer physically behaves influences how they are perceived as much as what they actually play. But maybe that is irrelevant here. There are two things going on. 1) lack of physical reaction to what she is playing. 2) lack of emotion in the music itself. 3) I said two things, so this point is possibly just too much wine due to lock down. What was the question again?

I'm a pro guitarist. I'm 56 and been playing since I was 10. I REALLY sold out to play guitar by the time I was 12. I can tell you that in my teen years guitar was almost a religion for me. I worked SO HARD to get to where I got. I can tell you from a technical standpoint I didn't even get close to this. At my best I was able to play most of the EVH stuff. Kids, understand - To get as good as Tina is from a technical standpoint, you can't have any "life." Guitar must become your "life." People like this tend to make it look easy. The beginner may watch this and think, "wow. I'd like to do that." Understand it will take most of your waking hours to get this good. You'll have time to eat, shower, and take care of bodily functions. Video gaming? Forget it. Social media? No way. Binge watching Neflix or really any other form of entertainment? Nope. Guitar has to become all of those things or you will NOT get this good.

Amen! I say to people they can play like this. But they will never have the available time to play like this! People don't realise it's literally a way of life. Jason Beckers mum said he never let go of his guitar, even at dinner he'd bring it to the table. It is literally spending every spare moment on the fretboard. I sacrifice some practise time for answering comments, but I can live with that! 😂👍

Just for fun, I took the time to go through the video and count how many notes Tina hits on the way through this piece. She plays for 5 minutes and 58.72 seconds and hits 2540 notes for an average of 7.08 notes per second for the whole piece. That is astounding!! I miss Tina and hope she comes back to RU-vid soon or, better yet, goes on tour. I'd like to think she might tour with the Trans-Siberia Orchestra one day. I think she would fit in with that group like a glove. So freaking talented and a pure technician with the guitar.
@jeffreyburley4033
@jeffreyburley4033 9 месяцев назад
7.08 notes per second??? It is hard to comprehend that speed. The best test to take for anyone whether a guitar player or flute player, is to put all your fingers on a flat surface and start to tap them in any order you choose. Watch a timer and get to the point where you are tapping at 7 taps per second Now, here is the trick, continue that tapping at 7 per second for the next 5 minutes without a glitch.
@wingsofpegasus
@wingsofpegasus 9 месяцев назад
It's actually not too difficult to comprehend, as on the guitar it's possible to tap 6 or 7 notes onto the fretboard with tapping. Although it's much more common to see 5 to 6 fingers being used as Tina does here. As soon as you fret the notes you'll have 6 in rapid succession, if you remove them again in sequence, that's 12 notes, which will all happen in a fraction of a second. For a better appreciation, just tap your nails onto a hard surface in sequence, like you're waiting for something, then imagine every time you lift your finger from the surface you'd get another note. You'll soon be able to imagine the speed going on 🙂

@@wingsofpegasus I appreciate your taking the time to educate me very much; it is incredibly kind of you. I've tried a number times in my life to play a few instruments including guitar, bass, piano, flute and, one time (literally), clarinet (I blew a correct note the very first try - LOL). Anyway, I never put in the time or effort to become proficient; however, I appreciate great music in all its forms. I enjoy videos like yours because they give me insights into how music is put together and formed through rules and methods I didn't know existed. I think if I had been introduced to these things at an earlier age, I may have found a bit more success. It doesn't mean I couldn't do it now as I recently learned how to draw but I did it every single day for 2 years to get to my current level which is pretty good as I can draw photo-realistic portraits if I take the time (usually 4-8 hours). I'm happy with that but would like to apply it to something musical. We'll see in the next year. Thanks again for taking your very important time to provide me with new knowledge. I have been a fan of this young lady for several years. I've probably watched most of her videos several times over. I enjoyed the split screen with her matching Malmsteen. She is in my opinion better. She is all business when she plays. One video she made shows a quick smile just before melting her guitar. Her abilities and perfection have brought tears to my eyes. She plays with such skill and concentration having totally mastered nearly every technique known. She is just simply a joy to watch and there is none better. There will always be those who criticize. But there will always be those of us who will always love her for the enjoyment she has brought us. By the way I'm 75 and still pickin.

On top of that, Rising Force was written, recorded and released by the time Yngwie was Tina’s age. So, yeah. Malmsteen is a monolith.

It is obvious from all the 'Followers' that there is a huge fan base waiting for her return. I enjoyed your comments and your technical eye. We all learn more too! There is an abundance of humor within the hundreds of comments that is also a real joy. Most it coming from real musicians who have 'watched their own guitars 'pack up and leave them in the dead of night' because they too want to be played and stroked with the same passionate abilities as Tina S. While this degree of technicality requires thousands of hours of learning, it also takes raw talent. As you can see in the comments from experience guitarists, they've been playing their entire life and have come to the realization that they'll never be able like Tina S. That doesn't detract from their expertise, it just means that they can't play like Tina. She has a gift, and she capitalized upon it. Everyone can run and get into shape, but only the truly gifted can become a top athlete. Genetics ensures that everyone is not equal in specific ways. Not everyone can become a virtuoso.

@@oggamerpalmspringsca7844 I agree completely. It terrifies me that today's generation (and as an Oakland, CA cop friend said, millennial is a state of mind and ranges ages 6-86!) says "if I worked that hard I could be that good." No, you could not. Then, think of classical pianists like Valentina Lisitsa. Her parents thought she was at musical academy; she often wasn't because it took her 3 days to learn a piece that took other students 3 weeks to 3 months...there are levels. You can't polish a turd, as John Lennon said. While you can (auto-tune) his point is well taken. One could practice nine hours a day and without musical talent, you'll never, EVER be able to perform like Tina - nor should you try!

@@Allan-et5ig too right! I've had noisy arguments with non musicians who insist proficiency is merely a question of dedication and time. I'm glad that's not true, for obvious reasons. I've tried to explain that without the innate spark of talent and aptitude, one could spend (waste) a lifetime to reach levels of mediocrity at very best. Then I'm told I'm an elitist snob, and dismissed as one would a garden variety asshole. Without even a rudimentary understanding of the way music works, (the talent piece), the likelihood of becoming adept would have the same lack of success as if you were to try and explain what "green" is to a blind man. Impossible. There's no frame of reference to draw upon. So while I'm perturbed by the "thumbs down" and the outrageously stupid comments that accompany them, I understand why these brat babies feel compelled to post them.

Tina S is stunning. My father was a classical pianist. I remember him playing this piece. At age 4 (in a non musical family), he could play hymns from church with both hands on the keyboard. However he had no family support necessary to reach professional standard. To them it was little more than a party trick. After WW2 In his late 20s he moved back home & took extended time off work to practice. There is a story that during winter 1947 his mum brought him a mug of tea. When he got around to picking it up it was frozen solid. His top local music teacher told him he could not teach him anything. He won a scholarship to Britain’s top music university but he did do have the money to support himself. He never became a professional musician. Sad - of course. Unusual? Absolutely not. You need talent of course but also the right circumstances, finances and a huge amount of luck.

She's incredible and that is an understatement. You very well could be seeing one of the all time greatest guitar players ever,and She's only going to get better

She is immensely talented. I can’t believe how good she is. I wish her all the best and I am looking forward to seeing more of her. And, I sold my guitar today after seeing this. Anyone who has an accordion for sale?

She is quite amazing. And nicely spotted the classical guitar position - always jumps out when you see that. Thanks for underlining how much PRACTICE this takes..... I think many people simply don't realise what goes into something like this. Piano-wise, I think I could still play the first movement by heart, the second with the sheet and could never play the third properly. Jesus, xxx hours a day for 8 years doing set pieces, arpeggios, scales, contra chromatics and I still couldn't play the efffin thing on the instrument it was written for. And Tina just goes and does it on the guitar. No eyelids batted. Hats off.

Yeah, she's amazing. I've been watching her for a while. There are a lot of great guitar players, but a smaller handful of players worth drooling over as players of extraordinary talent. She's one of those. It's not only that she's playing all of that here (and other pieces), but she makes everything look effortless and then manages to add some emotion and a special touch of her own. I don't know if she plans on going into music as a career, but, man, she can play with the very best of them.

So happy to stumble upon your channel and see your critique of Miss Tina. I agree with everything you mention about her, especially regarding how much time it must take to achieve this level of proficiency. My only regret is that it’s been over 3 years since her last video, and she’s released nothing since she turned 18. I’m afraid that we may have seen the last of this wonderful young musician. I hope to be proven wrong, but I’m guessing she’s moved on to another endeavor. At least we have a small catalog upon which to draw and contemplate “what may have been.” Cheers!

She is an unbelievable talent. I am learning the Moonlight third movement on the piano at the moment. It is a very difficult piece and I could never have imagined someone transcribing this onto electric guitar! Of course it is disappointing to those of us who appreciated her playing that she is not posting at the present, but people change. Technically she may believe she has achieved all she wanted to and is doing something new.. Whatever she is doing, I hope she is content and may be at some point she will return, but if not, we have still had the pleasure of those performances she has shared with us.

Well explained Fil.. and to be honest.. I’m about 4 yrs out from attempting this.. maybe 3 😉 but I understand your breakdowns. Very inspiring and unique what you do.. Yes! Many on RU-vid watch videos and share their opinions and it’s cool, but no one I’ve seen does it at your level and finesse.. much appreciated 🤘🏼

Very late in making comments here. Watched Tina's vids now and again , can't help coming back to them. Anyone making negative comments about this astoundingly talented and very pretty young woman needs a good slap. I've played guitar since my teens and in bands for years ( not that well I'll admit but admire good guitarists ) Through my younger years ( Late 60's and beyond ) favoured Blues and Rock ( not the heavy stuff ). Clapton and Gary Moore being my favoured players , I don't listen to or rate " shreaders " thats not playing guitar in my book , just a load of speed notes , a mess. Now this little piece is damn fast and you could compare to shreading but remember this is a classical piece and bloody difficult , not composed for guitar. She covered " The Loner " showing another side of her styles and am certain she could out " Blues " any blues guitarist out there if she wanted. Think I've watched vids on all guitarists and think Tina is probably top of the pile in my book for ability , forget the comments on emotion , guitar is played with the hands not the face.

Thanks for this I don’t understand why people think she’s fake and the video been messed with. All I can say is it must be jealousy.

Been following Tina for years. She beats 99% of syndicated guitarist. I've been playing since 13 and have never been or ever will be to her level. She's gifted. Definitely needs to be writing her own music. Which is where the true talent is.
