Three things. 1) Yes, I probably put on a little bit of weight over Christmas (happens every year). 2) No hate mail doesn't affect me in anyway - I read it for entertainment purposes. 3) Of course I'm hugely grateful for all the positive comments I receive daily/weekly. I probably wouldn't be making videos if it wasn't for them and I wish I could give a hat or pen to everyone who has left a positive comment over the years. Just don't expect a nice comment reading video in a hurry (limited entertainment value) - that said, I'm looking at doing a monthly comment video responding to comments and questions in general! Could be jolly good fun. And above all, 4) I can't believe it but I recently discovered the secret to an unbelievably amazing source of........ah, wait, I said "three things". I'd better leave it there.
Japan is known for its advanced technology, especially in the field of robotics. America is known for its advanced military technologies. Britian is known for its advanced sarcasm. I think we can all see who came out on top here.
Doesn't come over as bitter to me. Just that sharing stuff finds cool but also reaises to others might not be? More self deprecating? Hey here's how to lock yourself away and learn Japanese, I'm if you're into that sort of thing. Cos actually it's kind of a cool experience to counterbalance all the more extravert callings on the foreigner.
as a white guy with japanese citizenship who's been living in tokyo for 15 years and counting; every single time I've been told to go home or that I will never be japanese or accepted by the locals, there were never any japanese person involved. It's almost like the less japanese you understand and the less you're familiar with the culture, the more "aware" you are of reality.
I was going to say that you should go to bed Chris, but then I looked at the time in Japan and it is in the evening where over here in Arizona it's almost 11 pm and I still have a college essay to finish that is due in the morning so jokes on me lol.
You should consider making a shirt that looks all deep and poetic that says the "turn back where you from never back here" comment. Would be pretty hilarious.
I know it's not PC enough to be very successful, but I would love a shirt that was a pic of him walking solemnly with the comment box calling him an "over seas retard." I completely lost my shit when I saw that a while back! HAHAHA!!!
Hey Chris, I only discovered your *informative* and *extremely fun* videos (and podcast!) recently as doing research on Japan. I’ll be visiting (for my first time) Tokyo and Hokkaido in June/July 2019 - 40 years in the making! I absolutely LOVE your videos. I think they’re brilliantly done and I sometimes read comments from others; I say to all those jealous haters out there. Fuck ‘em! Keep doing what your doing and I hope you continue these videos and podcasts as they’re quite entertaining and I’ve learned so much. I feel I’m prepped for Japan, yet, I know I’ll be gobsmacked and probably hit with that “culture shock” everyone keeps warning me about. Cheers mate! From Abbotsford, BC Gregory Ould
I personally enjoy his videos and look forward to the uploads. There's disgusting, horrible bullies of people no matter where you go, even if you make phenomenal content. People hate to see the talent they lack in other people.
Dude, the “you’re provocative” commercial was a hit!! You should try and sell it to Calvin Klein or Armani hahaha Love you mate, you’re the very best!!!
This is THE funniest video I've seen on RU-vid. The way you take their own posts and turn them against them is absolutely amazing. Not to mention the amount of sarcasm used is sublime. Thank you, this was the laughter I needed today.
Best way to deal with those idiots who get butthurt on behalf of another culture who are more than capable of defending themselves if they thought Chris was disrespecting them, eg Natsuki or Ryotaro. None of these comments ever come from actual Japanese people so they obviously don't feel insulted at all.
9:50 "no matter what you do or what you say you will always offend someone somewhere in the world for reasons you couldn't possibly comprehend" WORDS OF WISDOM RIGHT THERE!
6:30 first I went back to check if the plush cat moved when you got up, then I went back several times to see that stop motion of the plush moving. really loved that detail =^-^= Thank you for all the great content over the years!
Abroad in Japan Hi Chris. Wes from the UK. Love the videos and I think it's great that you share you Japanese adventures with the world. And you should sware more often. FUCKUSHMA
The worst part about these videos is that some people try to purposely get in them. Yet, I can undoubtedly say, the payoff is the best. Have you thought about becoming a headsman, Chris? 'Cause damn, you *executed* these people. XD
Don't worry - all of the hate comments featured were verified (aka. they were unsubscribed and had usually left more than one hate comment across two videos). I only enjoy pure hate.
Abroad in Japan: Ah, good to know. At least it's interesting to see people try... but of course, it's impossible to beat the hate that shines brightly when it's burnt. One last thing, wouldn't it be a shame if _somehow_ a rabbit plush joined Mr. Snuggles? And of course, keep up the good work! :D
I love your videos, how you present yourself and your drive to keep doing you. Thanks for all the entertaining bits and information you present in all your videos. I hope to fly over to Japan in a few years so I'm soaking up all the information I can get. Thanks for all your time spent and hard work hours to make these videos happen!
For all that it’s worth, I find your videos really informative yet amusing. This is why I subscribed to your channel. You and your videos are so inviting after a long day being a nurse, sometimes it’s nice just to kick back and have a giggle whilst learning about another culture.
I love your videos and your creative spin on them! They are educational while being entertaining and interesting. Thanks to you, I've learned a bit more Japanese than before. Currently I know around 80% of Hiragana which is not bad, but still need to learn Katakana and get started on Elementary Kanji and work my way up. Of course I'm not studying it everyday, but it's nice to learn and absorb the information about culture, places in Japan, footage of personal adventures including with friends and the various breathtaking scenery and landmarks captured. btw Natski is a National Treasure.
"43 year old trapped in a 26 year old's body" how do people come to the conclusion that he's 43 years old out of that comment? Not trying to be mean or anything just don't understand peoples thinking sometimes.
ssjwes His youth draws the younger crowd who don't always get his references, but the 43-year-old inside him keeps adults laughing and relating, too. Well-done, hybrid guy.
It's funny he said that because when I first started watching I genuinely couldn't tell his age and assumed he was either late twenties and jaded or early fourties and just looks good for his age lol
Hi Chris, I really enjoy watching your videos. They are put together really well. Can't imagine how much effort it must take to edit the footage with all the nice sound effects and very nice narrative! I think that you are really talented!!
That 'Mexicano Pride' comment really riled me up, I think almost everyone is extremely self conscious, I'm always worried about the way people think of me. One of the main reasons as to why I'm stopping myself from moving to Japan is because I'm so worried about acceptance. I find that I depend on other people perhaps more than I should and if I moved to Japan I would have nobody to turn to. I would feel really horrible if people would judge me or see me as an outcast. Chris I think you are so brave to speak English in front of all of these Japanese people because if I were you I would worry about them thinking I'm another dumb tourist or somehow thinking I'm inferior to them. I know the majority of Japanese people don't think this way but this is just the way my mind works. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say here.... I believe you are a very brave and confident person (not to mention that your humor is the best thing since sliced bread) so thanks for bringing a bit of Japanese culture into my inevitably mundane British lifestyle. Cheers :)
I think most Japanese people, and most people native to any country or bettr yet, nation, definitely respect and appreciate any attempt to speak their local language, as it shows the foreigner cares, but other than that, the average person really doesn't care, and most places accept foreigners pretty well.
Shouldn't worry about things like that. Don't worry about what other people think of you. The best life is a care-free life. Be friendly to everyone in the world, regardless of country. Be rude to everyone regardless of country. Just be human. Ha
"Hey Natsuki." "Yeah?" "Do you accept me? Like as a person." "Yeah." "Really?" "Yeah. You're a nice guy." "Great, thanks." Lmao, that was so simple, yet it had me laughing for like a minute.
Hi Chris my only regret for your videos is I didn't discover you sooner. Your subject material is always fun and I learn something. The chemistry with your guests and regular contributors has really made you a professional production and keeps getting better. It would be easier to recommend you to more people with less swear words though, otherwise your absolutely brilliant keep it up.
I think you are really amazing! You had the courage and went to Japan and started a successful career and mastered the language and the culture! Keep it up you are amazing and you inspire me
7:12 maybe some people go to Japan or wherever simply because they want to go to Japan. I wouldn't care if Japanese people don't accept me as JAPANESE, I mean - I'm not. I'm Bulgarian, that's where I'm from, who I am. I wouldn't care if they don't view me as Japanese (since I'm not), I just want to live together nicely. These people are so friendly and hospitable, what more do you want? Seriously people, find your identity in something else and not in nationality. P.S. I'm not resided in Japan. Planning to in a few years. But I've still got an opinion, deal with it.
I've really enjoyed your videos. I'm planning of visiting Tokyo in the future and found the various ones on do's and don'ts etc very informative and funny. Thanks.
The insult would be to NOT eat the cow meat, from the cow, who was clearly already dead. That would be an insult, because the cow died in vain, and it is wasteful. Eat the cow, Chris. Eat. The. Cow.
Love your videos and have been watching you for years! Love your sarcasm. Haters will hate and be turds everytime. Love how you counter the trolls of the internet!
I just realised that this is the show I've been waiting for. It's about a cynical, sarcastic British guy in Japan burning people for revenge. And, yes, that did sound more medieval than intended.
Never thought anything would make me laugh this hard again. Your whole style is charming, candid, sophisticated, and always relatable. Thanks for all you do! Signed, Grateful American
I don't know if there's an equivalent in english but in spanish we say "you hunt more flies with a drop of honey than with a barrel of vinager". I found out there are more chances to change things I don't like, being constructive than just vomiting bile in the comment section. And in the end it's so obvious this people and haters in general are just people who rather waste their time trying to make others feel as miserable as they feel being themselves instead of working in their own issues. And also it feels so rewarding when you get likes from people or that little heart icon from the youtuber/channel; a lot more than any reply to a hateful comment. I would recommend it.
Lol you are actually hilarious, started out just watching videos about possibly moving to Japan as a foreigner. Nek minnit it's two in the morning and I'm laughing my ass off. Love the British sense of humor as a British immigrant currently in New Zealand.
