As noted by Katybug, this song was originally written for an animated movie, "Quest For Camelot" and Celine Dion was the singing voice of the mother of the heroine of the movie. Carole Bayer Sager and David Foster wrote the song. Later, Celine and Andrea Bocelli performed a duet that hit pop charts briefly. The other language is Italian due to the Celine/Andrea duet. In the movie, only a couple of verses are sung as the heroine rides to get help. The mother sings "Let HER find her way, lead her to a place where she can be safe, ... " stuff about praying for her daughter. The updated version with Celine and Andrea made it first-person rather than third-person.

What is so impressive about their singing is there is no auto-tune whatsoever when you hear them in the studio when you hear them in concert your ARE hearing exactly the same thing. We cannot wait to watch your girlfriend's reaction to this., if you can listen to this performance without either wanting to cry or your heart racing or both at the same time. It proves you are truly not human

Pentatonix has been around for awhile. I like their Christmas songs. Josh Groban has been singing the Prayer for years. Pentatonix is from Arlington, TX. Andrea Boccelli sings it in Italian.

I heard this 20 minutes after they released it and I was so impressed. I’m so glad you liked it. Their cover is spellbinding.

They are absolutely amazing. I love this song and I loved Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli and then Celine and Josh Groban did the song< but this tops that even. Pentatonix did a beautiful job and I love listening to it over and over. It can't get any better than this.

The goal of any artist is to touch the hearts and souls of their listeners. Pentatonix achieves that with every single song that they perform. I don’t think you stopped smiling once throughout their performance.

The new bass is Matt Salee who took over for Avi Kaplan in 2017.

David Foster wrote the song for Andrea Bocelli( as an Italian opera singer the majority of Andrea's lyrics are in Italian) and Celine Dion whose lyrics are mainly in English. Therefore the original song is covered by other Singers vut was originally made famous by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.

David Foster, a well known and saught after Canadians are songwriter to many genre. Canadian Celine Dion, a pop amazing singer and Andrea Bocelli, an Italian Opera singer recorded it.

Just so you now, PTX doesn’t ever really cover any song. They a change any song that’s not their own original and always make it better. They revamp the song to their style. Love your reactions to them singing.

I watch your brittsh couples reactions too and just found your ptx reactions and I am loving your journey into my favorite band! Some recommendations: Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone), Imagine, Sound of Silence, Be My Eyes, Love Me When I Don't, and if you want more songs with them singing foreign languages...there's a french song they covered called 'Papaoutai' and it is gorgeous and they collaborate with Lindsey Stirling in that one, as well as Radioactive and Over The River!

Scott sings in Italian in this one. There are several songs in which they sing at least part of the song in another language. Papaouti (with Lindsey Stirling on violin and Kevin on cello) is all in French with Scott on lead, Gagnam Style is mostly in Korean, they sing in Japanese in their Perfume Medley and Midnight in Tokyo, and Spanish in their excellent mashup Despacito x Shape of You

As others have pointed out, "The Prayer" is from Quest For Camelot, which is a 1998 Warner Bros animated musical film. Celine Dion provided the singing voice for one of the main characters and sang "The Prayer" in the movie. For some reason, they also included an Italian version of the song on the soundtrack, sung by Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Dion's English version won the 1998 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was also nominated for an Academy Award (losing to "When You Believe" from The Prince Of Egypt). Other than this song, the film was considered a flop, both critically and financially. "The Prayer" was such a hit, however, that they decided to record an English/Italian duet version with Dion and Bocelli. The duet was released on Celine's 1998 Christmas album, 'These Are Special Times' and also appeared on Bocelli's 1999 solo album 'Sogno'. This song has been covered many, many times over the past 23 years, both solo and duet, so I'm surprised you haven't heard at least one version of it. The most well-known renditions are the Dion/Bocelli collaboration and the 2008 Celine Dion/Josh Groban live version.

It is a cover of the song that Andreas Bocelli and Celine Dion sang about 10 years ago. Bocelli sang the Italian and Dion sang the English

Thanks for sharing this. I know the version by Andrea Bocelli & Celine Dion & there also was a great version by Charlotte Church and Josh Groban (who also stood in for Bocelli). This version was truly amazing as well.

This is a cover. I know the song writers. I think the first artist was Celine Dion & Josh Groban. Anthony Callea, and of course Celine Dion & Andre Bocelli is the most famous. Pentatonix do have original songs. And sometimes sing in different languages. One recent one was 'Midnight in Tokyo' with the J-Pop group Little Gee Monster (I think that is right) I was surprised to see Scott trying Japanese. Kirstie did that before. But if you like your music really 'poppy' (which I really don't) give it a listen sometime. Pentatonix has give free license to some of their original covers too. There are always conditions of course. So put some singers together Bees, & go download some of their sheet music. LOL!!

The ‘new guy’ (not really new, he has been with PTX since late 2017!) is Matt Sallee. He actually got married on January 2, 2022! Congratulations to Matt and his wife, Sarah! (Future lawyer-she’s a law student!).

During the third season of The Sing-Off (2011), Pentatonix won resoundingly. The Sing-Off featured acapella groups from all over the US as there is a rich tradition of such groups at many colleges and universities. Perhaps the most famous group is The Whiffenpoofs from Yale University which only allow graduating seniors from other "feeder" groups around campus to audition and be selected. As many have said, The Prayer debuted in Quest for Camelot (The Magic Sword: Quest for Camelot is the International title). It is a mother singing a prayer for her daughter’s safety as they are being attacked. Pentatonix just blows this away with beauty and their intense harmonies. Avi is no longer there. He was replaced by Matt. Everyone else there are all original. Actually Mitch, Scott & Kirsten have been together since grade school I believe , then Kevin joined the original group. They all have amazing voices. Kevin the beatboxer has a beautiful voice as well,which you can hear in the harmonizing, but hardly does any solos. This is their cover of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli song.

Josh Groban and Celine Dion have done this too, but the Pentatonix version is my favorite. Acapella is THE BEST!
