I believe that he was killed because he was a Catholic and celebrating this event is more in league with satan and that bastard Henry the eight who probably was more gay than heterosexual and got it in the butt by his male friends and started the Church of England and the killing of Catholics. I see satan in the details in your arrogant I am so great BS. Down with all royalists and the one world government. you are not gods of the world but piss ass bastards
In Australia we pronounce Guy Fawkes the same way as this lady from the UK, but I discovered just the other day when listening to a streaming radio station from New Zealand that they pronounce Fawkes as Fox. I shouldn't be too surprised I guess. When it comes to vowels, NZ operate by a different set of rules.
Hi Gina, I am Inggrit from Budhi Dharma University, Indonesia. My lecturer asked me to answer the quiz of Why did people in the UK first start to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day? And my answer is because the UK government in 1605 enforced a public day of celebration to celebrate the failure of the plot.

Hi, I’m Charissa from Indonesia. The video about the Guy Fawkes Day is very interesting, because there isn’t a event like that in my country that celebrate the punishment of a guy because of his fault. The interesting thing about the video, I see the mask of Guy Fawkes. The Mask is used in V for Vandetta movie, I have watched the movie before. In France, we use fireworks to celebrate the Bastille Day, on 14th of July. By doing it, we worship the "sans-culotte", that means the people against the monarchy, who took over the Bastille, that was the most important prison in Paris, on 14th of July 1789. This event marks the beginning of the French Revolution.
Si pero otra vez los Borbón toman el poder auque en la revolucion francesa 1789 hubo persecución de catolicos y muchos de los guillotinados era campesinos auque no defiendo la monarquía absolutista francesa que data desde Luis XIV.
The answer is because the goverment in 1605 enforced a public day of celebration and the public had coice but to light bonfires also celebrate the failure of plot
We are not taught this in America. The only reason I'm here is because of the song Remember by John Lennon, as well as my own sense of curiosity. We celebrate the 4th of July in the same fashion, but under the guise of independence.
Im Andreas Jorris and My lecture ask me to comment in this video. This video is very good because I never there will be such of this day. Its interesting because people celebrate this day because of the failure plot.

I had to look that one up. You burn an effigy of the Old Year and all the bad stuff connected to it. That's a great New Year's tradition. We should do that in America...especially after this year.

I'm British & it's not even celebrated If the 5th falls on a weekday it's always a weekend lol it could be celebrated on the 8th or 9th if 5th falls on a Wednesday.. Not exactly a celebration "day" unless it actually falls on a Friday or Saturday. Plus it's called bonfire night.

It has to be put into context. It was less than fifty years since the reign of "bloody Mary" who in a mere 5 years had had more people put to death in England than her father, brother and sister combined. There was a real fear of a Catholic monarchy amongst the English. James VI (now I) had shown a tolerance towards Catholics in Scotland and seemed to be pursuing a similar policy in his new kingdom of England. Cecil therefore orchestrated a plot to change the king's mind with the backing of parliament. When news of the unsuccessful plot spread, people in London spontaneously lit bonfires in celebration. Why? Because there had been great uncetrtainty as to what would happen when "Good Queen Bess" died and great relief when teh protestant James VI was finally named heir. Mary I's (grandaughter of the Sapnish Kings who introduced the Inquisition) legacy remains with us to the present in that any Royal marrying a Catholic is permanently excluded from the succession. The observance did not becaome statuatory until 1606 - and then only in England. The Service of Thanksgiving in the Church of England's Book of Common Prayer, which was compulsory each 5th November, was quietly allowed to die out by the end of the 19th century (just as TafalgarDay did during the 20th century). Though I can see no evidenc that the Act was ever repealed, in the intervening 400 years, it has become a part of the fabric of British life and any attempt to ban it would meet with stiff resistance from teh public at large.
False history taught to generation of English children. Mary was no more bloody than any other monarch and all the English were not anti catholic. The Anglican church was imposed from above and many English people continued to be Catholic. The most notable example being William Shakespeare.
Mary WAS much worse than any other monarch, even by the terrible standards of the day. Nearly 300 Protestants were burnt at the stake. True, the Anglican Church was imposed from above, but eventually incorporated elements of Catholicism into it. It's a hybrid religion between Catholicism and Protestantism.
