Gelatin, what you call jelly, we call Jell-O in general but it's a name brand. We also do have jelly, jam, preserves, marmalade, curds, and fruit butter. The difference between them is mostly splitting hairs. They are all made with fruit, sugar, and maybe some added pectin depending on what you are making and how much natural pectin is already present in the fruit. The simple breakdown is this: Jelly- no fruit pieces, juice only. Jam- small fruit pieces are present. Preserves- has bigger fruit chunks. Marmalade- citrus fruit made with juice and zest from rinds. Curd (such as lemon curd)- fruit juice, zest if done from a citrus fruit, and contains egg yolk and butter. Similar to a custard. Fruit butters (such as apple butter)- pureed fruit cooked at low temperature for hours to thicken.

The biggest difference between jelly, jam, and preserves is how much of the original fruit is used to make them. Jelly has the smoothest consistency and is made by crushing a fruit and discarding the solid chunky leftovers. This leaves only the fruit juice, which is then mixed with a substance called pectin and heated to form the gelatinous spread. Jam is similarly made by crushing a fruit, but this spread leaves in most of the solid pieces of the fruit’s fibers and seeds (if they’re small enough and safe to consume) to give it a spreadable consistency. Of the three, preserves use the most of the fruit and are simply chopped smaller pieces of fruit that are mixed with sugar to keep them fresh and combined with a syrup or jam to contain them.

In America, jam is the same thing as jam in Britain/Jersey: it has pieces of fruit fibre in it. Jelly is a preserve that has the consistency of gelatine because of the pectin in it, but it is clear and the fruit bits have been strained out, leaving just the juice, which is congealed. If it has a jelly spread in it, it's peanut butter and jelly; if it has a jam spread in it, it's peanut butter and jam.

In the US, we have jelly, jam, and preserves. The jelly is just that, like a jello, but thicker. Jam is mashed fruit, probably what you put on your PB&J sandwich. Then there are preserves, which contain pieces of fruit in the mix. I hope this helps you understand stand the 3 types of fruit spread for toast, and PB&J sandwiches.

Interesting way to cut the sandwich. Never seen a sandwich cut in half horizontal so that the whole top crust of the bread is on top. I’ve always cut it in half vertical so you get the top half of the crust on both halves.

They have a combined peanut butter and jelly that was first marketed back in the sixties. They called it "Goober Jelly" the two were swirled with each other. They call peanuts "gobbers" in the southern states. What you call jelly in G B is called Gelatin desert or Jell-O after the company that first introduced the Gelatin desert that had the flavorings already in them.

In the United States we have jam and jelly! There is not an either/or. We have both! And also we have another similalr product called preserves! So I don't see how the British people videos that I continue to see are confused? We have jam and jelly! Jelly is different and preserves are different but they are similar and also can be used with a peanut butter sandwich.

@@alonespirit9923 no it doesn't make sense, because all it tells me is that, England only has Jam. I keep forgetting their options are limited! Just like they don't have white gravy British people always say when they see biscuits and gravy and other foods like chicken fried steak with white gravy! They always say in other videos, that's not gravy, just because it's not Brown! We have several different types of gravy and brown gravy! There is no either/or! So yeah I guess it does make sense once I think about it that British people's options are very limited and there is no variety of anything!

I'd say that was the ideal spread, one pointer that I learned has helped from how my mom made PBJ that my friend pointed out was to put peanut butter on both breads, then place the jelly in the middle, that away when you travel with the sandwich the jelly doesn't make the break soggy as the peanut butter protects it.
