I would have cut my arm off for a cabride ! Loved the 47/7s in ScotRail livery. I did managed to cabride the sleeper on official duty, 67 009 Edinburgh to Inverness via Stirling, 67 007 Aberdeen to Edinburgh via Kirkcaldy, 37 405 Edinburgh to Fort William via Cumbernauld and a 158 from Inverness to Wick. Helped one 47/7 driver at Haymarket, he was running forward On red lights so I went up front to tell him. He seemed to appreciate that.

I agree. But the norm is 25kV AC. There was talk of electrifying using OHLE from Basingstoke to Exeter as a diversionary route to the Berks and Hants, and using dual voltage traction.

The booked traction was a class 47 and i imagine the Crompton was used due to lack of a 47 in London. One probably came off maintenance at Eastleigh and was sent straight to Salisbury to replace the class 33......

Waterloo Exeter is 3.5 hours. Buffets used to be on Liverpool Street Kings Lynn also, certainly in BR days. I think in NSE too ?

​@@vicsams4431In the 1960s there was a train from London King's Cross to Cambridge called the Cambridge Buffet Express.

The service was booked for 47s or 50s, they were more powerful so kept time... although i have seen (and filmed) Cromptons make it all the way to Exeter.....
