If you're not familiar with Gio Reyna, he's probably the USA's best midfield/attacking mid prospect of the modern era. Starting to come on strong at Borussia Dortmund as a quality contributor. The hope is he follows the Sancho/Bellingham development route, becomes world class in their system & meets his potential. Excited to watch his career.

There's a LOT more to the Ethan Horvath story arc that wasn't even in that video. Everyone knows him as the starting goalkeeper in Luton Town's promotion push this last season, but he'd had some _incredibly_ hard luck in his career up to that point (especially for someone without a lengthy injury history): -Started off bright as the starting goalkeeper for Norwegian top-flight powerhouse Molde (joined the club at the age of 17), including a storybook run in the 2015-16 Europa League in which they were "favorites" to get last place in a group of death featuring Ajax, Celtic, and a Fenerbahçe side that at the time included Robin van Persie, but won that group. -Got sold to Club Brugge in 2017, played OK for them for awhile, then got unceremoniously benched when Brugge acquired Simon Mignolet in 2019 despite the goalkeeper position not being a clear weakness for them. -At the time of this video, it had been around two years since then, and Horvath had played in something like four games in that time. When Mignolet tested positive for COVID in late 2020, Horvath had the opportunity to start in Brugge's UCL group-stage game away at FC Zenit, where he played quite well as his team scored the upset win. (That was his first game in _thirteen months_ IIRC, and he openly cried at the final whistle.) He'd then played in another game, a rather lackluster performance in league play, before again being benched due to Mignolet's recovery from COVID. -And so he came into this game having played in only two games in over a year and a half (again, if I remember correctly). Kinda puts his stellar performance in a different light if you ask me. Anyway, I figure this match probably went a long way toward putting him on the map for a move to then-Championship side Nottingham Forest, where he again struggled with being benched despite playing well (though he got a few games when Brice Samba got banned for a bit), and then got his now-famous loan to Luton Town where he helped them win promotion to the EPL. p.s. When Brice Samba went down injured in the 2022 EFL Championship final, Ethan Horvath came on to finish the game. This means he played for the winning side in back-to-back EFL Championship finals!

The first goalkeeper, Zack Steffen, is a Manchester city reserve goalkeeper who was on loan to Middlesboro last season. The sub goalkeeper was Ethan Horvath. He’s on the Nottingham forest roster, but was on loan to Lutontown last season and help them secure promotion through the playoffs. He kept the second most clean sheets of any keeper in the championship. Our current number one goalkeeper is Matt Turner who is reserve for Arsenal.

I love that you mentioned our finishing was a problem. After the World Cup, we managed to secure forward Folarin Balogun, who had over 20 goals in the French league last year. He’s a tri national and chose to play for us over England and Nigeria just a few weeks ago. I think it’s a couple months ago now. We’ve also started giving Ricardo Pepi a few more appearances. He scored 13 goals on a team that got relegated in the Dutch league.

One more note about Ethan Horvath who came on and made the game saving penalty save - Denver is his hometown and he was playing in front of a ton of friends and family who had never seen him play for the US team before and didn't expect him to be in the game that night.

The 2022 MLS Cup Final between Philadelphia Union and LAFC was an all-time great match definitely recommend checking that one out for some great American soccer. Gareth Bale was on LAFC at the time!

The only thing the video left out were the "hostile" dramatics from the fans (you caught a hint of it), the Mexico manager's red card, and a few other things. Other than than, a memorable match for any USMNT or Mexico fan (for better or worse).

Horvath is on the books at Forest and was at loan starting for Luton. They're trying to keep him for their prem campaign. Steffen is about to sign for Leicester City, after being on loan for middlesbrough. And Reyna might be the most talented American playing in Europe right now. Had injury problems last year but is getting back. Almost had a goal a game off the bench in Germany post world cup.

Solid reaction. The USMNT is filled with great stories. Pulisic, Reyna, Weah, Balogun, Dest, McKennie, and Adams all have growing reputations in the periphery of conversations about the greatest current football players. This is the team that fosters a WC winning team. All are talents nipping at the heels of world class players that are writing the "what-if" fairy tale of US Soccer. The kids that are currently playing youth soccer imitating these players are the ones who will lead the USMNT to the 10 of national teams

Our 3rd in line no9, Jesus Ferreira just scored back to back hat tricks in the gold cup against St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago. Two very small Caribbean countries, which are not very competitive. But he earned himself a new nickname, The Pirate of the Caribbean! 😂

Whenever USA plays Mexico in a big venue in America, its always majority Mexico fans so its neither really a home game or an advantage.

The funny thing is that all of the fighting, drink-throwing, and fan violence you saw in your reaction to the 2023 USA vs. Mexico was even worse in this game. As an American fan, I never liked Mexico's national team much to begin with but this is probably when the entire confederation started to sour on them

If you really want to watch another USA v MEX game, checkout the 2021 Gold Cup Final. It was the same summer as this game after the international schedule was rearranged due to COVID. The US used a mostly different squad of players, and it provided opportunities for certain US players to take a step up to the A team

This is the match that kicked off the recent US dominance over Mexico. Including this match, the US is undefeated in 6 STRAIGHT GAMES against Mexico. 4 Wins, 2 draws. 5 of those in competitive matches, including 2 finals, and 1 semi-final.

Remember that Pulisic has just come into the team fresh off Chelsea's win in the Champions League Final. That was his second trophy in 8 days...

This was the final from 2021. The game you initially referenced was the semifinal from a few weeks ago. By the way, the player down from Pulisics goal celebration was Gio, he was hit in the head from debris thrown from Mexican fans (you can see the contact a few seconds prior, it's caught on video)

There are generally a lot more Mexican fans than US fans at these matches, even in the US.

Denver, Colorado is in fact almost exactly 5,280 feet above sea level so it has long been known as the "Mile High City." The prior football stadium there was called Mile High Stadium and the current stadium is called Empower Field at Mile High. Ethan Horvath actually plays for Luton Town and was critical in the promotion playoff. In fairness to that extra time stat, as much as they play, they usually only play in friendlies and World Cup Qualifiers which all don't have extra time. And before the Nations Leagues started kicking up, we only had the CONCACAF Gold Cup (the noramal conferderation championship) every 2 years to have extra time eligible games for and it's not like we played each other every time for those. I think the player down was goal-scorer Gio Reyna who had been subbed out earlier. He was hit by a bottlecap or full bottle; something that definitely hurt but he was okay. I mean, there's plenty of good American soccer to get into. For US games the best overall games are generally from the World Cup. The 2002 opener against Portugal and the knockout games against Mexico and Germany (we lost 1-0 to Germany but it was one of the best games we've ever played), the 2006 second group stage game against Italy, the 2010 World Cup all 4 games of which were instant classics, the 2014 games against Ghana and Portugal and knockout round game against Belgium were bangers. Then there's a BUNCH of World Cup Qualifiers against Mexico that were great, mainly the dos a cero (two to zero) games which was also the score of that 2002 WC Round of 16 game. As far as MLS, given the format, usually the great MLS Cup Finals are the games that rise to the top of my memory. Some of the best of those include this past year's LAFC/Philadelphia Union final(probably the best), the 2021 final where my NYCFC beat Portland in a shootout but only after Portland tied it late in normal time, and the 2016 final (another potential best ever) that Secret Base actually did a Rewinder on...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H9RiP3Gt4cQ.html Also, while probably the darkest moment in US Soccer history, I do want to point you toward the game that knocked us out of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. Not only did we have to play bad for the whole qualifying campaign including the last game, but BOTH of the other qualifying games happening that night had to have their results flip mid game in order for it to happen. You definitely need to watch a video about the Sounders/Timbers rivalry in the MLS. It is not an exaggeration to say that it challenges for best football rivalries worldwide, and the Sounders and Timbers both have supporter clubs that go back to the 70s and some of the longest and richest football history in the US. It's easily the oldest rivalry in the US. There's two good videos on it: "Battle for Cascadia" and "Timbers vs Sounders | Rivals From Day One". Both are excellent.

Maybe LAFC/Philly in last year's MLS cup was the greatest MLS game in its history so far, what with the stakes and all, but MLS' best, most entertaining game in its history so far was that first Trafico. Honorabe mention to DC-Orlando in 2018--the Wayne Rooney play and Lucho Acosta hat-trick.

This injury was unfortunately the start of Steffen losing his starting spot for the USMNT. He’s since been replaced full-time by Arsenal’s Matt Turner and Steffen was on loan this past season to Middlesbrough. Thought it worth mentioning because he was an excellent keeper by US standards while he held the position and shouldn’t be forgotten now that the squad has really turned a corner results-wise in the two years since.

Oh my goodness, I get it now! When you two watch American sports, and you’re like, well why did that happen? And as an American sports fan, I’m thinking, well duh, it’s obvious. But when that dude was possibly offsides, I was like, well why did that happen? Y’all should do a series explaining British sports to yanks. Because I am so confused by European football.

If the US team hadn't riled up the Mexican fans, I don't know if that 122nd-minute penalty gets called. But given it was 8 minutes after the US got a penalty and intentionally taunted the always-testy Mexican fans, I can only imagine how much chaos would have erupted had the penalty to Mexico not been called. Fortunately for us, the keeper saved it.

This video does a good job of summarizing the major events of the game, but unfortunately (?) doesn't include much of the rampant CONCACAF shithousery. Pulisic drew the winning penalty at 107:45, and buried it a full six minutes later, during which time Mexico's coach, "Tata" Martino, was shown red for bizarrely wrapping his arm around the ref's shoulder as he was at the review monitor. That's the tip of the iceberg.

English soccer is kinda boring, because it’s no standing, no smoke, no passion, players are great, but I understand the state won’t allow it, and cover the 1980s English soccer when it was raw on the pitch in the stands

4:08 yeah Gregg doesn't do tactics. I'm infuriated we brought him back we've basically conceded that we will never be able to compete tactically with the top European and South American teams. We are really going to squander our greatest ever generation of talent because we brought back the US Soccer Federation Vice President's brother to be our manager again.
