One thing this particular video leaves out are the heroics of Tyler Matzek. Top of the 7th in game 6 of the NLCS, last pitcher let a run score without getting an out, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Just about any hit ties the game, and a homer puts the Dodgers on top 5-4, and 2/3 of the next batters are MVPs. Then Tyler Matzek comes to the mound and stikes those next 3 batters out in a row, ending the scoring threat and preserving Atlanta's lead. As it turns out, that would be the last chance LA would get, as Matzek and closer Will Smith would retire the next 6 in order. Game, set, match. One of, if not THE most pivotal moment in the series, and arguably the postseason as a whole. Even better, Matzek performed at a similar level the entire postseason, allowing only 3 runs to score over 13 games the entire postseason. And to think that just 2 years ago he was in independent leagues after recovering from anxiety that was so bad that he couldn't even play catch from 5 feet away without experiencing the yips, and then went on to become the most trusted and reliable pitcher in Atlanta's bullpen. Of all the feel-good stories this season, Tyler Matzek's is easily one of the best.

That Atlanta bullpen also took down the Astros who were mowing teams down in the AL side of the playoffs. Minter, Jackson, Matzek, and Smith were key to Atlanta matching 0s with the dodgers and holding Houston to just two home runs in the WS.

Fun fact about the Braves this year: Hank Aaron -- one of the best players of all time -who also played for the Braves -- wore jersey number 44. He also passed away at the start of the year. The Braves had 44 wins at the All Star Game, won 44 games during the second half the season, then won the World Series at the 44th week of the year.

@rojorj17
@rojorj17 2 года назад
@@DBinDC To be clear, that was the Braves 4th overall championship as a franchise dating back to winning one in Milwaukee and one in Boston. Technically, this was the second championship they've won since coming to Atlanta. Also, you have to count the MLS Atlanta United 2018 championship when we're talking major pro sports. So as far as championships won while playing as Atlanta, the city now has 3 championships. If you count franchise wise its actually 6 championships...Braves MLB 4 titles (2 in Atlanta, 1 in Milwaukee, 1 in Boston), United 1 MLS title, and Hawks NBA 1 title (1958 St. Louis Hawks).
@tyruss23
@tyruss23 2 года назад
@@rojorj17 I believe by Major sports he means what are considered the main 4 for America, football (NFL), basketball (NBA), baseball (MLB), and hockey (NHL). Out of those, only the Braves as a franchise have won it in Atlanta and even all time, the Hawks was before the NBA and ABA's merger making that NBA unrecognizable to the one we have today. While the MLS is growing, it pales in comparison to the influence and popularity the others have. Although Atlanta United games are an electric experience and are like top 10 in attendance average for the entire world when it comes to soccer/football, which is insane for a league and country that is so far behind places like Europe in quality.
@rojorj17
@rojorj17 2 года назад
@@tyruss23, even though Americans don't regard soccer as highly, it actually still counts as a major American sports league. It gained enough traction to become Major League Soccer and has even outdrawn some of the other major sports teams in other leagues in attendance here in the US. No, it hasn't reached or surpassed the ones that you named, but its gaining more and more traction and it counts as a championship in a major US sports league. As a longtime Atlanta and Georgia sports fan, I will take it, especially when you consider how few those franchises and programs have. Additionally, this could be a trend to show how Atlanta and Georgia sports aren't "cursed". If UGA can win this season's CFP championship, that's 3 major championships for the state of Georgia over the past 3 sports seasons. So yes, I will claim that MLS title just like we claim the others. If the Atlanta Dream win a WNBA title, im counting that one too, lol!

I have been a Braves fan since I was a kid (a long time ago) back in the Hank Aaron era. My dad used to take me to the games and I saw Aaron and many other Braves greats play. Hank Aaron passed this year before the season started. His number 44 was in the grass of the outfield all season. This World Series win was for him. People were saying that there were angels in the outfield during the playoffs, Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro, Mr. Bartholomay, and Don Sutton who passed away this year. Braves fans have waited for a long time for this. This is what it is all about. Honestly, I thought the season was over when we lost Acuna mid season, but I never stopped watching and hoping. Braves fan here! Been for over 30 years now. There was a said “sports curse” over Atlanta. Only 2 championships out of the major 4 sports here(NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL) since 1966. The city had the biggest collapse in Super Bowl history, lost TWO NHL teams to other cities, and the Hawks have never made it to the finals in Atlanta. So needless to say, we are still feeling excellent over here. I was at game 6 of the NLCS this year, and when Rosario hit that 3 run home run, the place literally shook! Go Braves! My son died in an accident before they took the Series. When they fought hard and won, my knees buckled and I was bawling. My son’s celebration of life was all Braves theme, everybody wore their jerseys. My son always wore 44 for Hank Aaron. I purchased a Braves urn that levitated a Braves helmet above it.....like magic. RIP Nic....and I think you made this Series win happen from above❤️ saying hello from Atlanta GA

I was born in 95 which was when they last won the World Series. I grew up in New Jersey but it was while the Braves were always on TBS so I started watching and following them. To have my heart broken in 2013, 2018, 2019, and 2020 (the last one while i was deployed) was so painful but to finally see them go all the way, I still get goosebumps and tears watching this. It's been over a month since it happened but my boys are still the champs! #ChopOn #GoBraves

The last time the Braves won the World Series was in 1995. I wasn’t alive yet. I’ve watched the Braves ever since I can remember. The good, the bad, and the ugly. To watch this team (who by the way had a 0.3% chance to win it all at the all star break) come back against all odds and win it all is pure euphoria! I watched every inning of the Braves post season! Even at work when I wasn’t supposed to! Lol. I still get chills watching the mini movie and all the other videos! It’s especially nice to see someone from another country reacting to this! Thank you for posting this!

Lifelong Braves fan and I'm glad you got to enjoy the hype we felt this entire season, the biggest highs from the lowest lows. The pure sport definition of an underdog was this season. Don't even know if it has properly set in that we are champs for me. Started watching the team as a kid back in the '80s. Backstory is during the 90s we had one of the most successful teams in Major League baseball but we only managed to win one World Series that entire time. We won our division a record 14 consecutive seasons. And then the team got bad for a few years. Managed to rebuild everything and got back to winning the division again 4 years in a row but there was always this thought that we weren't going to win the whole thing, just have a good regular season team again that occasionally wins some games in the postseason. What you saw in this video was the culmination of that whole process and for us longer-term fans the payoff for years of loyalty.

One really insane thing about this season. Hank Aaron was an all time baseball great and a Brave. Served as the Braves Vice President of Operations for many years and just passed away. He wore number 44. The Braves won 44 games before the All Star break, 44 game after the All Star Break, and won the World Series on the 44th week of the year.

@@TeamFish15 The only thing I did in HS Baseball as a designated hitter was that I was hit 3 times in one AB(actually almost 1 play). I was hit in the neck during my AB. I took first and took a lead. The pitcher threw over and hit me in batting helmet. The ball went into right. I took off, rounded second and Yep while sliding into 3rd I was hit in the back of the head(my helmet came off rounding 2nd.) The ball went up the 3rd base line and I scored from 3rd... Kinda of a Painful in the park Homer.

I’d also like to point out we lost our ace pitcher in Mike Soroka, our all star right fielder in Acuna, our catcher for 60 games, our silver slugging left fielder Ozuna, and our up and coming stud rookie center fielder. The resiliency this team showed this year is a story in itself! #chopon

I watched every game...every play...there was nothing like this team. Pederson, Freeman, Swanson,Albies...there was nothing like this for years in the city of Atlanta. Acuna went down and 8 other guys stood up and answered the call. The pitching staff stood up, the infield hit the ball like nothing I've ever seen and the crowds...just lifted this team like nothing I've ever seen. I literally wept after the series. These boys EARNED the title of champions. It was like living a day dream. I love sports. I love Atlanta. I loved this year.

Never in a million lifetimes would I have believed my Braves would win the World Series last year. 2 decades of being good but not good enough and gut-wrenching losses in the playoffs made me numb to winning it all when it happened. It’s been nearly 3 months and I can’t stop watching replays of the players’ reactions and all the runs scored and the biggest highlights. It’s finally hitting me how unbelievable it was to witness and I could not be more proud of those guys. The love in that clubhouse carried them beyond any “talent gap” that the media wanted to portray between them and the teams with better records. The All Star game was taken away from the Atlanta community over political reasons that should never have impacted a decision like that, and the GREATEST Brave ever, Hank Aaron, passed away before the season. For the 2021 Atlanta Braves to turn what could have been the most demoralizing year for the organization into winning the whole damn thing brings a deluge of tears to my eyes. What a ride
