The fielding team wears gloves while the batting team doesn't, but every player on the fielding team wears them. The glove makes catching the ball easier (or honestly, even possible) for the fielder and catching it with your bare hand (like in the second clip) is really rare and either done in desperation or to show off. Also this video only really showed recent catches because it didn't show the Willie Mays catch or anything by Ozzie Smith, there's a lot of catches from older seasons that are amazing, as well.
The webbed glove we see in today's game didn't come about until the early 20s. Gloves in general didn't come into use for years after organized baseball began and early ones were more for protection and knocking down the ball than catching.
Omar and Alomar mid 90s Indians best double play combo. and the bare hand can make diff between and out and safe in the time it take to get the ball out of the glove.
Every player that plays defense wears a glove. They wear the glove because it is easier to catch than with your hand. There are different types of gloves for different positions. Like a catcher has a way different glove than a first baseman, and the first baseman has a different glove than the shortstop etc.
@@lavluka6210 No if you throw with your left had your glove goes on your right handed and if you throw with your right hand your glove goes on your left hand
Lavish Luka No, sir, either hand can be used (gloved or not gloved), however using your bare hand is extremely rare 1) because it’s much easier to catch with a glove, and 2) you can hurt yourself. These guys are throwing the ball 80-90 mph (roughly 130-150 kph). Catching a ball from a bat that’s popped up in the air is generally much slower, but they’ll only use their bare hand out of necessity. Balls that are hard hit can be well over 100 mph, so you won’t see anybody trying to snag a line drive out of the air with no glove.
I love these American sport reactions. It’s honestly so cool to see you watch something for the first time that gives me goosebumps every time I watch it
If you’re going to react to another video about MLB’s Greates Catches, watch the video under the same title but with 12 million views. It has more of the legendary catches
Like others have said, the gloves are to help with catching. You figure a baseball is small, hard and FAST. Pitchers frequently throw at 95 MPH or more, so imagine a 95 mph ball the size of an Orange coming off a bat.
Its weird seeing someone have no idea who Derek Jeter is, "that man is just speechless" just the face of baseball for over 20 years. lol. Youve got the excuse of being across the pond though.
This year the Yankees and the Red Sox played in London (biggest rivalry in any sport in the world) This next year, in 2020 another big rivalry game is played in London when the Cubs and Cardinals go at it. Like so Luka sees
If you want to see amazing defense you need to find videos of Ozzie Smith. The Wizard was the premier defensive shortstop, the hardest defensive position, of his era.
Phrozen Yeah, he needs to watch some double play & shortstop defensive videos. Home run videos get fairly boring if you’re not a fan of the game & don’t understand the stakes involved etc..
Hi Luka. I grew up playing football, baseball, and basketball for 13 yrs, and to me, baseball was the most difficult of the 3. A lot of people think that hitting a round ball coming at you so fast, with a round bat is the hardest thing to do in the major sports. I also think fielding /catching a ball coming at you so fast is mighty difficult. The gloves you were asking about are called "batting gloves", & they help you grip the bat better. Some people wear them under their baseball glove, or when they run the bases as well. Edit: I just saw some people explaining the gloves you asked about, so I'll clarify. There are the big leather gloves that everyone on defense wears to catch the ball. The batting gloves I was talking about are the small ,tight fitting gloves that the batter uses. Hope I'm not confusing you. Lol. Hopefully this helps some.
I know this isn't the main theme but griffey sucks in mlb the show he do some dumb shits in the game like he get some stupid animations and its bad but in real life he's a beast legent one of the best player of the sport for sure!
Cricketers dont wear any gloves. They don't break their fingers. Its not risky at all without gloves. I used to play baseball barehanded. Nothing really happened. You get used to that.
@@memlarsen True but cricketers haven't used gloves for centuries and still dont. If we stop making it a habit for kids to wear gloves since an early age they'll get used to it when they grow up kinda like cricket.
@@maddixdasilva64 I'm talking about the use of gloves in sports. Cricketers face similar problems baseball have while catching the ball but one of them uses gloves while other doesn't.
Trust me, this video you showed was good, but there are HUNDREDS of greater catches available to be seen. Most of these involved foul balls, you should look for any compilation of home run saving catches. Luka, you'll love watching that! ⚾⚾⚾
There are a few must see baseball movies. My favorite is Field of Dreams... Please watch this gem, the musical score will move you... I believe this was Burt Lancaster's last role in this film... You will appreciate the magic which is Fenway Park...
The fact that the Willie Mays catch wasn't in this video, goes to show there are thousands of other catches as good or better than shown here. While still incredible, these are just the tip of the iceberg .
Asking if baseball players wear gloves is like asking if soccer players wear shoes. We got a long way to go for Luka to understand the sport so rich it's played on a diamond.
Go buy yourself a baseball and feel the weight of it. Then imagine a 6'4 230lbs man hit that ball at 110 mph right at you and tell me if you want a glove or not lol.
Baseball is probably the hardest sport to pick up and play. It requires less athleticism than football or basketball, but baseball also requires the most skill out of the American sports.
Lavish Luka haha, it is...the cubs are my team and pricing out a trip to england where I’ve never been is getting quite pricey. The tickets aren’t horrible for what would be either a one-off experience or rare at best. Just google cards cubs London and you should find decent info...I’m not sure the tickets are officially on sale yet, but you can look up prices from the red sox yankees earlier this year for an idea
Need to watch- MLB reactions in milliseconds Also (gonna keep saying this til u do it) tracey mcgrady 13 points in 35 seconds and klay thompson 37 points in a quarter
You should absolutely look up a catch by White Sox outfielder DeWayne Wise. Not only was it a great catch, but the situation.... it preserved a 'perfect game,' (very rare for a pitcher to allow 0 baserunners for a full game), so the situation made that catch all the more meaningful. Cheers!
FYI- the visiting team will usually wear grey with the name of the city and the home team will wear their home uniforms with the name of their team .But there are exceptions.at 5:02 all those numbers on the wall are the scores of the other games being played.Teams will usually have the city on their caps, red sox will have a "B" for boston. dodgers will have a "LA" for los angeles and so on.
The glove is on the catching hand the bare hand is the throwing hand, and as other have said catching a screaming line drive without a glove can be painful if not dangerous also teams play 162 games so thats alot of sore fingers if you don't wear a glove.
Here’s some trivia: the catch @ 3:40 was made by Royals player Brian McRae who’s father, Hal McRae, was also a very longtime Royals player and was (I think) the manager of the Royals at the time. Bonus: There is a classic video clip of Hal McRae going CRAZY in his office after a game, trashing his desk and throwing a telephone, among other things 🤣

There was a player 20 years ago who was the greatest hitter in all of baseball, and even after that, he decided to take performance enhancing drugs, and from 2000-2004 he absolutely murdered the league with his innate hitting skills combined with his drug use. The consistency and distance he could hit the ball at that time was remarkable. Anyway, there's a video on RU-vid of him hitting home runs throughout his career, and it's kind of a long one, but I'd watch you react to it. I believe it's called 202 Barry Bonds home runs. It contains a large portion of the home runs he hit from that five year period, as well as some before and after. There was no hitter like him and probably never will be again. Barry Bonds.
Pretty much every baseball compilation will have different clips on it. I can think of 100 different catches that could’ve been on this video, and many other youtube videos have them

Every player on defense wears a glove, if you're right handed you wear it on you left hand and vice versa you throw with your bare hand and catch with the glove
You should watch "MLB Headshots" here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-efEcn4auUhY.html. Also watch "Worst Baseball Injuries" here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-46gLa7ik2cs.html. This sport can be really dangerous. The pitchers in baseball throw a fastball from between 90 to just over 100 mph (160 kph). But none of their pitches are straight. Their fastballs dip, dive, jump and rise. Curveballs (which start out looking like a fastball around your belt and curve downwards to below your knees) average between 80 and 89 mph (143 kph). Sliders (which move or jump sideways at the last minute) are about 85 to 92 mph (148 kph). So a batter sees a belt high fastball off a pitchers hand at about 95 mph (152 kph) then swings and misses at the 86 mph curveball (138 kph). Pitchers also frequently throw changeups which can be very slow, some 78 mph (125 kph). Pitchers hide the release of the ball so that batters pick up the sight of the ball as late as possible. Batters generally can tell what type of pitch is being thrown by the spin of the ball. So the very basis of baseball is psychological. It's about trickery and deception, being smarter, slyer, craftier than the other guy. Cheating is built into the very fabric of baseball. The phrase "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin' " was invented by baseball aficionado's. Baseball is also an individual game disguised (trickery again) as a team game. It is the quintessential American sport. But make no mistake, these guys are superb athletes.
Glad you enjoy the video..... if you want to continue to see great defensive plays, check out Javy Baez. I have to say, these aren't even close to the greatest catches ever. There is no Ken Griffey Jr. or Bo Jackson running up the walls. No Jim Edmonds laying out. No Torii Hunter robbing Bonds at the All-Star Game. No friggin' Willie Mays?! A lot of the all-time greatest catches were missed...A LOT!
There are some conditions where it's hard to see a ball, the example in Boston was a little odd, but if the sun is very high it can be nearly impossible. If the stadium is full and the trajectory of the ball takes it through the visual path of where the lights happen to be, the player can lose track of it. It can happen to anyone, it's not a skill based mistake.
You should def check out best defensive plays (double plays) or home run robbing catches. Love your reactions to NHL videos too. Theres so much content on hockey (hits, saves, dangles, cheapshots, fights/brawls etc) I enjoy your work mate! Keep it up!
