Sharpe is a British period drama series starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe, and Daragh O'Malley as his second in command, Patrick Harper.
Throughout the series, Sharpe gradually gets promoted through the ranks but makes a number of dangerous enemies along the way. Eventually, his success gains him a steady promotion, and by the end of the Napoleonic Wars, he becomes Lieutenant-Colonel Sharpe!

It's interesting to note that Theresa doesn't say "this is the man we need", she actually says "yo necessito" -- "this is the man _I_ need" which is why the Major gives her the side eye, lol.

French: Kill everyone, doesnt take surrenders and most importantly dont loot the bodies ...... thats not soldiering. British take surrender and then promptly ignore them to get to the important looting ! Now thats soldiering of such high quality that Sharpes scar faded away!

You have a point there but here's the real question in the next few scenes the French prisoners are nowhere to be found so my indication either a they were let go but they were disarmed or b they just line them up against the wall and shot them they had no choice looting was a common thing because a soldiers like sharps troops they only get a few rations just to ask them long enough alcohol meat and whatever else they need it if they were bored of a book they would take it they did whatever they had to to survive and they knew whenever they got home that their paychecks that they earned well in service would not last them more than a couple of months so if they could take some French jewelry French coin it would bring a lot more to them so whenever they got out of the service they could actually have enough to live off of just until they found work

@@killerclone1786 except the French had reasoning note none of the rifleman were surrendering. While French troops are surrendering and refusing to fight. It's the rule of war. Any troops surrendering must fall under the protection of prisoners of war and unarmed soldiers. Back in those days muskets and medieval times not all troops or officers were like Sharpe where they respect surrendering and doesn't want a slaughter

@Bub Bub i guess No, they were French cavalry - they just happen to be dressed like lancers. Budget constraints were no doubt to blame for this inaccuracy.

The Brits didn't have much to take and the cavalry needed to keep mobile, they do still loot but its quick the first things they can grab basically, see 2:20.

I think they should have done a crossover between Sharp and Hornblower. Both awesome series. Would have gone very well together.

Would've been a total no-brainer, because Hornblower was directly responsible for Cornwell being inspired to write Sharpe. He was such a big fan of Hornblower that he wanted to know if anyone had written a series like that for the Army, and when he couldn't find a preexisting one he decided to write it himself.

1st one bothers me...what logical sense is it to camp literally on a massive open field and not in the tree to the side of said field?

The soldiers at 0:22 are trying to put up a tent. As a member of the Scouting Movement, I can say that it's considerably more difficult to set up tents in woods than it is an open field. The field would be the only area with the space to put up enough to accommodate the entire company. Hence, the logic behind camping on the field.

@@turbulanceism Im gonna say no , they are the recon element , they are supposed to find the enemy , they were in this case unlucky and found by the enemy first. Fog of war was much greater in this time period. But anyone with outdoor experience will tell you to not camp in woodlands if you can avoid it , sleeping on roots and other stuff stops you from getting a good sleep and thus in the long term (assuming they have been marching for weeks) the performance gets worse.

Arguably that's not a French ambush as the Count of Mouromorto strangled the rifleman and even though he was enfrancesado he was Spanish.

The book is so much better. They're actually the rear guard for the whole army and are fighting one set of calvary while another gets behind them through the mountains. They then fight a delaying battle all the way up into the hills where the horseman can't follow them! Only about 60 survive though

@@MrRobbo246 yeah even a rear guard or just army force in general wouldn't lay camp in an valley where it's open for cavalry attack along side one must always set up camp where it's beneficial for your camp. Such as where in the woods due to cavalry force can not engage due to limited maneuvers. Also that they were.... in deep enemy territory. They should've been more careful

"One of the best Ambushes" the rifles hide on opposite sides of a road, the French march down the same road, when they get between the two lines of Rifles the Green coated ambushers stand up and fire at each other, pity the French got in the line of fire.

Not to sound judgement, but using a GARROTE on British Soldiers during this TIME PERIOD would be very difficult with a major wearing "Leather Stocks" which was throat/neck protection against BLADED weapons... so a rope??? Come on!

Quite obviously this man had discarded his stock, probably because his company was at rest. Also I doubt he was on sentry duty as he a sergeant, not a private. If he on sentry, then his stock may have been removed as he was out of sight of his officers, and it was notably uncomfortable. Also, its only leather, rope getting tightened round it will make it easier for them to be strangled Also surely
