Sharpe takes part in the Battle of Toulouse, which marks the conclusion of the Peninsular War. On the opposing side, we find French General Calvet and Sharpe's archenemy, Ducos, who holds responsibility for Napoleon's treasury. Amidst the conflict, Sharpe comes face-to-face with Ducos and brings disgrace upon him, yet mercifully allows him to flee unharmed.

My favourite part about sharpes revenge is that the guy that plays Hobbs plays a soldier in like every army, French, French cavalry Calvert’s guards, the Neoploitan forces.

in psychology there is a theory that gunpowder weapons terrified soldiers so since the invention and distribution there's been a long standing theory that if you shoot around your target they may just break and flee. However, almost like an internal struggle humans don't instantly pull the trigger not without a heavy amount of discipline and careful training. Outside that normally people don't go around waving a gun shooting people like its a TV show, more over, most people in that very situation hesitate to shoot. So its not too far removed that some of these soldiers had guilt ridden consciences from firing a gun.

except for sharpe's green-jakceted riflemen, the rest are using smoothbore muskets... the chance of hitting a man is about 1 in every 20 shots and it takes 20 seconds to reload every shot. soldiers had plenty of opportunities to run away with very little chance of dying...

@@theshinygoldenemperor2422 yeah but they have to make a strong and decisive breakthrough into the gap of the stronghold quickly so it makes sense to do that in this situation, you don't want your men to spread out thin while charging with this kind of terrain, it wouldn't be as effective and the French would be able to repel them much more easily.
