As a millennial American woman, upon reflection after reading her memoir, I think we got a lot of second hand shame around our sexualities too. It’s really sickening how people treated her. Like we all knew in the time, and we’ve known for years, but hearing it from HER perspective was devastating

I can literally NEVER listen to Cry Me a River without having a physical response. It has nothing to do with Justin Timberlake, it has to do with a college roommate who would listen to it for hours on end over and over and over again. I'm not saying I have PTSD or anything like that, but I definitely have some sort of lingering something left from that. Also, because of you, I added this book to my wishlist. I can't wait to read it!

Your thumbnail is just one of the best! I will love Britney Spears forever! Toxic is probably my favorite, too. It came out when I was in grade 12, so it represents such a moment in time for me. I think You Drive Me Crazy (the STOP remix) is a close runner up. Also a fun Britney song story: back when I was still a substitute teacher, I had to wait for assistant principals to call me on the phone to get a day's work. My phone ringer was "You Better Work Bitch" 😅

My favourite Britney song is Break the Ice! It's so good and I loved watching the music video whenever it came on tv. I have to confess something...I somehow managed to convine a friend (in elementary school) that some of her songs were sung by her twin sister called Shebritney and up until high school she believed it 😭✋️ I felt so guilty, but it was also pretty funny

I haven't read the book but can relate to being a sweet girl that has her innocence taken away from her and having people (even those who are closest to you) take advantage of your sweetness. My niece is such a sweetheart and I just keep thinking about how sweet people need to be protected, it's such a gift to the world that too often just gets trampled on.

Ok. I’m back! I finished the book in less then 24 hours. I could not put it down! I grew up listening to Britney and had her posters in my room, so knowing what I know now after reading her side, just broke my heart and I see things in a different light. As a mom of two, I just want to give her a hug! I’m glad she is able to speak for herself and share her story/journey!

I loved what you said about not falling in love bc you dont want another person to have power over you. That's how I feel about love too, and have never heard anyone else say that out loud. It's been years since I listened to any of her songs, but one of my most distinct middle school memories is finding her first album at a thrift shop and being so excited to get home to listen to it. I didn't know anything about music then but even I knew she was a big deal.

I finished this book yesterday and couldn't wait to see what you thought! Love the thumbnail, and I see what you did with the title there 😉 My favorite Britney song is Toxic! Her book is incredibly personal and vulnerable. I read it with a heavy heart, and so much empathy for what she's been through. I thought the book was really well written in the way it highlighted generational trauma/abuse, and misogyny in the entertainment industry. omg watching this nearly made me cry. I don't know if I can read that book so I appreciate your detailed highlights. It just makes me wonder about the true stories of other people who are under conservatorships like Amanda Bynes. It's really mind boggling how her family was able to turn her own grief and trauma against her. Like....she didn't need a conservatorship she needed love, therapy, and an extended vacation somewhere far away.

So many great songs it’s hard to pick! Early Brit I loved Soda Pop and Lucky but as cliche as it is Circus is still my all time fav of hers. The 90s were so cruel to so many women celebs it’s insane, and I’m glad so many made it out and are still with us. Honestly I feel like I'm too young to remember any of this going down, and some stuff happened even before I was born. But hearing everything now, and remembering how the freeBritney movement was so strong, awakes so many feelings. My perogative or me against the music are some of my favourites but I have so many! I too have loved Britney since I was a child - her hit me baby one more time was my very first album and I cried receiving it because we were so poor that I never thought I would own it. The book already arrived to my parents, I can only read then after november unfortunately. I was never a Britney fan, liked some of her songs but nothing special, but in the last years I started to follow her life and story so I ordered the book.

I just finished reading this book so I ran to this video and I 100% agree with your thoughts! I felt so angry most of the time reading this because of the way the people in her life mistreated her and took advantage of her! It was so sad, but I’m so glad she’s free of them now 😭😭😭

What really hit me hard was the way her family and her ex weaponized her mental health struggles against her. This is something that happens to women, particularly in custody battles more often than you would think but knowing that it happened to a woman with Britney's resources just goes to show how far we still have to go for womens rights. By the end I saw Britney in such a new light and I hope she now enjoys becoming the woman and the artist that her father never let her be. Also my favorite Britney song is the classic, Hit me Baby One More Time. I would always jam out to that in the shower when i was 9 years old. We LOVE you Britney.

It's a must read and especially for people who have seen Britney during her hey days, I finished this in abut 2.5 hours (one sitting). The book is quite well written.

I have been a Britney fan since she was on Mickey Mouse Club (I’m 43 lol), so her book was definitely a must read for me as well. I want to do aggressively unkind things to everyone that’s hurt her in life. My favorite song of hers, other than the Big 3 (Oops!, Toxic, Slave 4 U), is Overprotected.

Man my heart aches so much for ms. Spears while watching this. I really do hope Britany can heal from all the hurt she was dealt over the years. No matter how famous a person is or how successful they may be; all humans deserve to live life happily and peacefully, without powerful people pulling the strings, whether they're family or not, I always got a really bad feeling about brittany's father and mother for being so vile with their daughter. I'm glad Britany was able to get out of that horrendous conservatorship contract. Even while this whole debacle unfolded, I always got a really bad vibe when Britany's father was shown on screen. I gotta give this book a read when I can. Grew up hearing Britany's music on the radio or TV from time to time. Songs I enjoyed: Stronger,Toxic, I'm not that innocent (the music video with the neon orange outfit if I got the name of the song wrong my apologies). Those are the main songs that stick out in my mind the most. What's your set up when it comes to recording audio? The sound is great and your voice is too Gav! I usually switch between a tonor Q-9 monotone USB mic and the internal mic on my camera. I usually edit the audio levels either in final cut pro or Audacity. A long with a Canon HD video camera. Great video! 🙂❤📚

I listened to the audiobook and I had to stop many times to breath. It was hard to experience it. I always liked her (never give 2 cents to Justin - blergh), I still have the CDs. She was present in my teen and 20-ish years. I can't even imagine most of the things she endured. And from your parents... I wont mention the media bc it's vile. It was raw and painful, but awesome to see her taking ownership of her life. Great vid!
