i seem to recall Roger Mayweather (Floyd's Uncle) was called The Black Mamba. Just thought I'd bring that up since you compared Carl The Truth Williams to Paul Pierce. Also, this guy left out a lot of people like Gary Payton (the Glove), Domonique Wilkins (The Human Highlight), Walt (Clyde) Frazier, Anthony (Spud) Webb, Clyde (The Glide) Drexler.
I think Curry’s nickname was self explanatory lmfaoo Edit: watching the video they didn’t say it but it’s “Baby Faced Assassin.” In college and in his early nba years he had a baby face. He’s also lightskin (fully black but lighter toned) Idk if Daz knows but Aiden probably knows that lightskins are looked at as soft. So him looking like a little kid and being lightskin really stuck. And we all know why he was an assassin. Also his name really became big after Kobe co-signed him to being one of the only players to have the Mamba mentality.
I've never even heard of that boxing guy lol so no that should have no barring on another sports persons name unless they are legendary like MJ ,lebron or Muhammad ali
I don't know if a Mandela Effect but I distinctly remember Jimmy Kimmel giving Kobe Bryant the nickname black mamba on his show. Kobe didn't have a nickname and Jimmy said every great player needs a nickname and started listing random phrases and said black mamba and Kobe loved it. A couple of years later he had black mamba merch.
Kobe gave himself the nickname after watching Kill Bill. This is why people clowned on it for so long. Nicknames are usually given by others. You might be remembering a bit or something, but that’s not how it was inspired. Jimmy Kimmel started late night in 2003, which was the same year Kobe coined the name, so there was a conversation about that.
In the US it's fairly common to receive the same nickname as somebody else that plays a different sport, even to the extent where sometimes your nickname will be something only because you have the same name as somebody else. Example being one of the greatest MLB players ever in the playoffs Reggie Jackson was given the nickname "Mr October" due to his performance come playoff time. There just so happens to be an NBA player currently ALSO named Reggie Jackson, and seeing as the NBA playoffs typically happen in June, he was given the nickname "Mr June". The funny part about this is that this Reggie Jackson is HORRIBLE in the playoffs.
I think names absolutely can carry over. In the us most people proly don’t even know who that boxer ur talking about is and think Paul Pierce. Not to mention some guy in another country who’s famous there has that same nickname name just in a different language
AK - 47 is the best nickname ive heard it just fits to well, a russian guy wearing the nr 47 who's intials are AK who comes from the town that the khalasnikov plant is is just too perfect
I generally agree on the topic of not giving yourself a nickname - but Swaggy P and Black Mamba are two of the most used nicknames for these players and they were self given ironically enough. Although you may not have heard of Nick Young much, he is referred to by that name a ton!
Boxing has multiple “Sugars” I think nicknames can be reused in different sports. Like Mahomes, they tried calling him Showtime, but clearly it should be Patrick Magic Mahomes. Magic Johnson even gave his blessing.

Kobe coined the name Black Mamba after Tarantino’s Kill Bill. Maybe he applied it to “how he attacks the basket”, but that’s not where it originated. This is easily searchable. This video gets a few narratives wrong.
