Just say Penn State. This game is a special game every year at night called "The White Out" It's a night game, nationally televised and against a high ranked team usually in conference. A big game for them and one of the many traditions in college football... This is also a regular game on the schedule, not a championship or anything. THIS is how high level college football is EVERY weekend. Unlike any pro sport ANYWHERE around the world.

Michigan had to call a time out because the crowd was so loud they couldn't hear the call.... That's an advantage of having a loud crowd.
@gettysmith1532
@gettysmith1532 24 дня назад
For context, this is the only time I’ve EVER seen a team need to call one of their 3 timeouts on the FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME. Timeouts are normally used to regroup, stop the clock, or change something in your team. They can be very precious toward the end of the half or the end of the game to manage time so they’re usually saved for later. Michigan were completely lost here and couldn’t hear a thought in their own head
@jasonwhoever5528

It's called a WHITEOUT. Local television, radio, sports stations, and the school will all be advertising this game is a whiteout. Sometimes they will give you props such as towels or pom poms at the gate when you enter.

The crowd gets loud (especially on 3rd downs) because they know they can effect the game. They disrupt the verbal communication between the QB and all 10 other offensive players. The play calls and adjustments get sent in to the QB by the coach on each play . If an offense doesn't convert on 3rd down they typically punt the ball away to the opponent on 4th down to push the other team far down the field. Instead of giving them a short field.

I’m a Michigan fan and it’s even nerve racking watching it live it’s literally defining on the field. Crowds get so loud to the point where talking is impossible before plays so teams that are struggling with crowd noise will switch to hand signals to hike the ball instead of the qb saying anything. Crowd noise can affect a game in these ways usually: delay of game, false starts and frustrating communication errors, which will frustrate the hell out of the head coaches because those penalties are considered small league undisciplined mistakes but there’s nothing that they can do sometimes when crowd noise prevents any form of communication.

As a former player, I loved big games on the opposing team's field. It was a chance to make the crowd go silent. That was our goal. To beat the other teamsso badly the hype was elimnated and all that was left was disappointment for their home fans. becaseu we knew next year theyw ere coming to OUR field and that meant a chance to make it two in a row. That is the killer instinct players play with. At the end of the day, home field advantage is worth apporximately 3 to 4 point per game on average. Scoring first as the visiting team puts that advantage to rest.

College football teams only play about 12 games per season so you only get 6 games a year at home (for the most part). Generally, half your games will be against weaker schools. When you play another ranked school(top 25), those are a big deal. Some years, a single loss can keep you out of the playoffs. Also, the college football season is short. It is basically September, October and November. There might be one game in December but most of the month is finals and holidays for the students. The bowl games begin in December but the big ones happen on New Years days. Most bowl games are just a reward for schools that did good enough and a chance for the seniors on those teams to play one last game since most will never play the sport again.

Honestly I think that the only difference in the college football and almost any other professional sport worldwide is average age of the people at the game. The passion for sports is universal worldwide, but the energy to exercise that passion is perhaps greater in younger people. College sports is also a celebration of the hopes and potential of young players, vs the proven experience and skill of professionals. Some of the college guys are barely 18 years old and not many of them are over 22 or 23. Very young people. ♥
