The players aren’t falling over, they’re laying down to try to prevent a shot or a pass, similar to a defender jumping or slide in front of a shot or pass on soccer
@@gordonkilner8611 What are you talking about? As a Canadian it's gold or nothing!!! Kidding aside, there's only really 2 teams in that tournament. Only reason these two teams get a bronze is because they face against each other in the Semi.
When US and Canada play each other either mens or womens it always a down to the wire game you rarely see a blowout. You guys should also check out the Vancouver 2010 gold medal game.
To summarize the US-Canada relationship overall: We hate each other during Worlds (hockey, whether it's the men or women) and will fight to the death for each other the rest of the time. The End
Check out Marie Philip Poulin's highlights going back to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. Her talents are unreal and the definition of clutch player.
Not gonna lie but the women's Canada/USA games can be soooo freaking fun to watch. Glad you're profiling it. They have some amazing goalies and true snipers. Hilary Knight is the name you need to watch.
Fact Canada’s Sarah Nurse has a brother in the NHL playing for the Edmonton Oilers, Darnell Nurse. They also have a cousin Kia Nurse who played for the best female basketball program at UConn and plays in the WNBA for Los Angeles Spark. Another interesting fact actor Bill Murray’s son is assistant coach of the UConn Men’s basketball team
Another thing to note is Canada's population compared to the US, meaning the US has a far greater pool of Woman Hockey players to draw from and Canada still stands tall.
finland is (or atleast was last year) ranked 1st in men's hockey. also i don't you noticed but finland is the only country besides the us and canada that has played in the finale in women's worlds
I'm sure there are exceptions, but nearly all the countries with elite women's athletics are the wealthier ones that have more girls playing sports. I am surprised that the European countries which produce so many elite male hockey players have not made more progress catching up to the U.S. and Canada for women's hockey. Several of the women on the American and Canadian teams are the daughters or sisters of NHL players. "Captain Clutch" for Canada is Marie-Philip Poulin, who has been scoring big goals in the finals of these international tournaments since she was a teenager. Some of the women are quite tall and beefy, especially the defenders. Team USA captain Hilary Knight is listed at 5'11'', 172 pounds. There's no fighting in international hockey, for men or women. Officially, the women are not allowed to bodycheck like the men, but the referees let them get away with some of it (the hit at 11:02, legal for the men, was called a penalty). Demonstrating the absurdity of this sexist double-standard, if a 15-year-old girl at an American high school plays on the boys' team because there is no girls' team, she is allowed to hit and be hit, but the best women players in the world are not. One thing I find fascinating about the U.S.-Canada rivalry is that the players are constantly switching from teammates to opponents and back. They play international tournaments every year, but in between they are teammates on professional teams. Most from both countries also played at a small number of American universities. They must have some intense love-hate relationships. In fact, there have been 2 or 3 marriages between one retired American and one retired Canadian, with all of their former teammates celebrating together at the weddings.
I think it has to do with cultural priorities. US Men's Football is subpar because American Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Ice Hockey take the best athletes. But US Men's Football is getting better. US Women's Football is a big priority for us. WNBA is about to have a big bump. We are learning to really appreciate our women's sports. I have never watched women's ice hockey before. Thanks for showing this.
You guys should start reacting to some NHL again. Playoffs start on Saturday and there are some great 1st round matchups (Boston v. Toronto, Florida v. Tampa Bay, Edmonton v. Vegas, and Dallas v. Los Angeles, just to name a few).
Canada and US womens hockey is heads above the rest of the world. It had been discussed several times wheather to drop women's hockey from the Olympics, because it would always be these two teams fighting for gold, with the other teams just there to try for bronze.
You won’t see fighting & rarely ridiculous hard hits in international hockey, mens or womens.. And the world championships are a tournament not a one off.
Poulin aka Captain Clutch is widely considered the best womens hockey player in the world at the moment. Her all around skill is incredible, and she always shows up for Canada. She got two goals in this game, has scored multiple winners in the Olympics and World Championships. She always shows up when we need her most. Overtime especially. If you want an incredible goal, her winner in the 2021 IIHF in overtime.
To your observation, men’s ice hockey also has a lot of people falling and shots going wide, don’t think it has too much to do with it being women’s lol
Canada vs USA in Women's Hockey is almost always an epic battle. The two teams are very closely matched with some truly talented players on both sides. Watch any of the Olympic gold medal games from Salt Lake City or Vancouver.
No fighting in International hockey men’s or women’s , no body checking in women’s hockey, and hits in men’s that contact to the head is a 5 min major penalty and game misconduct (kicked out)
fighting is frown upon in the international games i find. Also its always (well supposed to) the top skilled players that are in those tourneys and those guys usually dont fight unless its an egregious foul.
Check out the women’s College Basketball tournament this year. American hockey has come a long way. Scouts used to primarily go the junior Canadian hockey leagues to draft but now the NCAA American colleges are producing the best talent.
When you hear the "ping" off the the cross bar and the puck goes in, it is referred to as a "Bar down." Usually looks and sounds pretty cool. The camera operators for this game are moving around so much I'm getting sea sick just from watching.
The "falling down a lot" is actually diving down to block pucks, it's done in the NHL too - and its crazy - players who it deserve a lot of respect. There are generally less stoppages in international hockey because of the size of the ice, if you follow a player all the way to the boards, you can find yourself too far away from the action when the puck is passed and becomes free, you are better to be covering a player who the puck ice going to be passed to, than chasing a player, who most times will be able to get the puck passed you and back into play. when that happens you are far better to be more central and closer to the play. International hockey is just a bit different.
This was a 2m news clip from when Hayley Wickenheiser announced her retirement, it was big news in Canada and events included being honoured by the NHL, with Gretzky presenting ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JOM2N0-lxEI.htmlsi=4mcsXV0SO9D9w7bj
The US had a head start in a lot of sports compared to other countries becuase there was a law that colleges had to give the same amount of sports scholarships to women than men. So any school that had a football team (80 scholarships) had a lot of womans sports, because no other sport has that big of teams. Granted, colleges recruit from other countries too. Many olympic athletes from around the world also compete in the NCAA.
Hockey between these two has been absolute hate FOREVER. Not bad blood, but hate. It’s always them squaring off for everything and the top medals switch back and forth. The USWNT and CanWNT soccer teams are exactly the same, too. In 2011 at the Women’s World Cup in Germany, the USWNT went to final against Japan; Canada finished dead last. Fast forward a year to the London Olympics, and the two faced each other in the semifinals and THAT was one of the most heart-stopping football matches I’ve ever watched. Christine Sinclair scored a hat trick, but the USWNT won the game 4-3 with a last gasp Alex Morgan header past Erin McLeod with about 30 seconds left in extra time. You guys should react to that match, it was CRAZY.
You won't see fighting in women's Olympic hockey since they are under international rules. And it's the same for men in the World Championships and Olympics, where you're automatically ejected from the game for fighting. Only the CHL (Canada amateur junior league), professional minor leagues in N America and of course the NHL tolerate fighting, with 5 minute penalties.
Pretty much every women's gold medal game is like that. Always Canada and the USA. Most evenly matched rivalry in sports. All the other teams are just playing for bronze. And yes, Utica is in Upstate New York.
You guys should react to the USA women’s hockey team vs a boys AAA team, basically amateur teenage boys nearly beat the Olympic women’s team. Pretty crazy
This is not an official highlight package, though I highly appreciate the effort by the compiler. I found the package rather choppy and you don't get a sense of the flow of the game. The lighting is also a bit substandard as it was played in a relatively small arena in Utica, a small, rather faded city in upstate New York (I've been there).
I HAVE SEEN WATER POLO BUT I NEVER HAVE SEEN FEALD POLO OR PITCH POLO. HAS ANY ONE SEEN FEILD POLO EH? OR IS THERE SUCH A SPORT. HOW ABOUT PICH RUGBY. HOCKEY ..... JUST HOCKEY. YOU SAID SOCCER DON"T YOU MEAN PITCH SOCCER EH?
It would give it more credibility if they had a male commentator. No one takes female commentators seriously. You can argue if you want but facts are facts
Lol i see you are not a true fan of womens hockey since you would understand who the women commentators are. They are former hockey players so they know more about the game than any guy who would comment it. Since most of them have played with some of theplayers that still play the game.
