@moikethesquid It's definitely one of the most popular bikes in Virgil's collection. But I do love it when that one person comes across it for the first time and they realize how special it is, along with the whole story behind it. If Burt Monro can get a movie made about him, surely John Britten deserves the same.
Thanks for posting this Video. Jon was a hero and with his bike he was an inspirational character. It's nice to know that there are some collectors that still stick their V1000's out on the track where they are supposed to be
On a highly tuned race engine, it keeps it running while the motor is cold, and helps it warm up. Most engines in purpose-built racebikes are not exactly tuned to idle, they're made to run best at full throttle. As an example 125 and 250cc GP two stroke racebikes don't even have an idle circuit in their carbs, and require that you constantly blip the throttle while waiting on the grid to keep the engine running.
@VicVaselino1 ~ I get down your way when I'm racing sidecars at Willow I'll take you up on that. We used to have one sitting up here at Moto Italino in the Green/Yellow colors that was always fun to just stare at. But it's something else to see it in the garages and blasting around the track actually getting used the way it was intended. Such a legendary machine. I think it really inspired a lot of the innovation we have seen out of Michael Czysz.
@DeeJayMiikkii CUSTOM BIKE??? you could say that. lol. It has a Britten engine, the man designed and built it from scratch in his own workshop at his house. Same as the frame, wheels and all the suspension links. The only parts he shipped in were the tyres brakes and electronics (and he designed most of those). The bike was pure prototype in a way that modern motogp bikes can only dream and the man himself was a true genius taken well before his time. RIP John Britten
he was pulsing the throttle so that the engine warms up and it doesn't stall, i do it when i fire my bike up usually after it hasn't been ran in a while or it's a very cold day.
Generally no... real racebikes do not tend to bother with starters or batteries. Unless you're racing some sort of super stock class. Every 5 pounds extra is the same losing 1 horsepower.
