As already mentioned and tagged Eisei-en FB account, if I should specify just 1 technique which made a huge difference in my ficus development was this one, cutting until 3 instead of 2 leaves. I was struggling for 5 years wondering why I am getting half of my pruned branches open only 1 bud though I cut to 2. Pruning like suggested since August this year and got a better ramification in these 4 months then in the previous couple of years. No tree is the same. Prunus mahaleb of mine for an example buds everywhere, even there you do not want it to, but some trees (among them my ficus) definitely benefit from this technique! Thank you for this! :)

That’s how I prune my laurel hedge. 😁😂 Seriously I cut way back the long shoots so it stays bushy and doesn’t become a naked scaffold with a layer of leaves on the outline.

This was very interesting/inspiring. What You said about maple - defoliate more than once - does that apply to ficus bonsai grown in tropical climate? I live in Hawaii and am growing several ficus species and their cultivars. I see in the comments bellow that You are not into replying to comments much but am so curious about this that can't resist asking. Also - sense You said that this applies specifically to alternate leaf pattern trees (like my ficus) - what is the technique for trees with other pattern (leaves growing in pairs). I'm asking because I do have several species like that. Did You made video on that subject? Or are You going to? Or are You selling book or video on such a subject?

Leaf cutting on an ficus kills the leaf after its getting yellow (F. microcarpa, F. benjaminia). Those are my experiences I would also recommend Nigel Saunders channel! Best wishes from Germany ✌🏼

Axel Smets man, look it up. Tree seeds usually need stratification. Read the article on Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratification_(seeds) Then when you get the idea you can google for more precise instructions for your kind of juniper.
