If you keep the snow out of the belt and sprockets you won’t have any problems. Good idea to check for ice build up every morning. The snow building up between the sprocket and belt made the belt so tight it broke the sprocket.
The only thing Polaris has to explain, is how to latch your side panel after lunch ;) Thanks for sharing your experience. I wouldn’t have guessed snow buildup could have caused damage like that, but with how tight that belt is, it makes sense. Enjoy that new machine!
Actually good to see that you are being clear that this is something to learn from. I’ll admit, I came up to my own conclusion before watching the entire video and apologize if any comment of mine came across as bashing. I did have to laugh that you mentioned 100 miles as if that had anything to do with this. It was “click bait” that probably led to most if the internet police to slam ya. Mistakes happen, folks need to realize that. 👊🏻
@@2007dalin ya id rather have my brake on the track drive shaft too, but on my 08 turbo nytro the brake is on the engine jack shaft. But it has a chaincase, this is my 1st 2stroke sled and a drive belt and Ive been a 4stroke guy my whole life because I like the longevity and the linear tq curve they offer and not having to rebuild the top end every season or 2. Wish me luck, so far I love the 22 axys 850 155 i got in august, it rolls on edge sooooooo easy its unreal.
Buddy my 09 doo ducked some snow in because the frog wasn't it good enough got pulled back whole sled was fulll of snow like full full like you couldn't see the can or the pipe or anything full put it in the shop overnight to thaw out put new plugs in it and she fired right up
Snow/ice got between belt and sprocket...causing the belt to be way too tight and busting the sprocket. I get it...sucks...but certainly outside of normal operating expectations due to missing side panel. IE...has little or nothing to do with sled brand or mileage. Unfortunate operator error. When I'm accessing my muff-pot...I take the panel all the way off the sled. It helps ensure I put it back on all the way. Not necessarily guaranteed...but works for me.
This seems like a good case for sleds to add an automotive style spring tensioner to make the drive system not have to be so rigid that a bit of snow can snap parts off.
So, although it was most likely not closing the side panel that caused the problem…. it seems the QD system is vulnerable if you experience panel damage while on the hill. Remember to pack duct tape to keep snow out.
Full disclosure not that familiar with modern sleds. Havnt worked on a belt drive not sure how common that is, I've only seen chain driven. But why isn't there a cover for the belt? Id say partial operator error... but it is a snowmobile. So, snow and ice will get in no? I think a minor design issue imo.
I will stick with the chain on my old girl, might be a bit more rotating mass but I will take the peace of mind for all the weight savings the new drive systems provide.
Thats awesome broheim🤙 To each their own, I prefer my 02 Edge over my newer Axys. Maybe when my Axys is 20 years old I will appreciate it more...but I don't think I will keep it that long as new machines are not as mechanically friendly and seem to be built for weight savings over durability.
what are you taking about?? QD2 was on sleds last year other than a new drivers/ antistab, seat tank, new pannels, tunnel/ coolers, a new break leaver, the matryx chassis is pretty much the same. No of that "new stuff" here broke?
@@jaybird-oi1te What QD2 was used on sleds last year. do you think that QD2 would have fail will that panel still on? I dont think so, dont forget this was operator error and not faulty first year production parts.....
Was in revy last weekend and saw 2 dead Matryx being towed off the mountain. Not sure what was up with them though, hopefully you have good luck ongoing man!
"on going problem with polaris"? You packed the cogs with snow which effectively increasing the diameter of both cogs over loading the (belt tension) entire system causing the failure.
The guard is called a side panel. You must not know how much weight means on a mountain sled? Better keep to your heavy as lead brick Yamaha or Skidoo.
I think Polaris could easily add a micro switch to the side panel to give a warning on the dash if the panel is loose, that said I am not surprised the gear broke with that much snow packed in there and the power of that sled, something has to give either the belt is going to shred or the gear is going to break.
You’re simple. You do realize what caused this failure right? All products have their issues but this was clearly operator error…. I wouldn’t jump on Polaris for this one!
People saying that it is purely operator error are being far too kind on the manufacturer...especially for a mountain sled that is supposed to see feet upon feet of powder not just some trail ripper. Whatever happened to quality engineering that allows you to pile on miles and abuse let alone getting snow under the hood of a SNOWMOBILE🤦
I have skinz air panels on, and I haven't broken a pulley. The snow compacts in there and acts as hydraulic pressure to either blow up the belt or the pulley...
They designed it to be ridden in perfect conditions is what you are saying than? What if I rolled my rig into a tree and cracked my panel, am I just supposed to leave it and go get a new one even though my sled has no bent or broken structural parts? I just like having peace of mind when I'm having some serious fun in the middle of nowhere🤷♂️
Nice panels indeed, and the physics of how it breaks makes total sense I just don't know why they couldn't toss a panel or cover over the sensitive drive parts. Just imagine if you lost an exhaust spring one day🙃
Funny story, I have given everyone else a ride out on the Polaris. Oh, I don't do stupid things like drive around with the side panel off. Then again, the lower sprocket is clearly in pieces and he thinks he can just put the belt on. Poster is a complete idiot, and idiots break everything they touch.
That’s Polaris! Never made anything to stand up since the 97 rmk 700. Crank chucking, piston popping junk. All you Polaris sheep keep telling yourself it’s a good sled. Did you notice the two older skidoos? Yeah polaris is how you spell junk in canada!
@@matthewenerson2095 comparing apples to oranges. Have you seen the clearance the 50 tooth lower qd2 has. Almost none. Pack snow in there... won't be good. Leaving the side panel off clearly caused this. You cannot even debate that.
@@matthewenerson2095 lol sure it would not be hard to add a guard but would not be easier just to put the panel back on in the first place and not have an extra guard because ignorance is bliss? tell that to an avalanche. this is just a case of powder fever
