First comment whilst watching this video. What a special accessory to have. A one handed bonnet opener. You open it up and boom the prop is hanging there just to be put in the latch. It must know your other hand needs to hold the camera. 👏

Haha this is a OEM upgrade that was offered by British leyland 🤣

I think the problem is the height of the pump. Some pumps say they can only lift X amount of height so it could be past that. It does sound like you have a plan for the future to fix everything which is exciting.
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
You would think that’s an issue but it’s always ran perfectly like this, no it’s not correct and yes it’s annoyed me but it’s always ran. The current issue is the fuel tank but the engine like shown is poorly. Stay tuned for more 👍

I love patina! It's all part of the car's history so it really has to stay. That electric fuel pump noise would drive me mad and it is such a pity that you can't put a manual pump back on. You beat me to it about gravity feeding the fuel pump but if that didn't work by using a separate fuel supply then while there may be a lot of sediment in the fuel tank, if you are bypassing that and it still wont start then I would be looking at the fuel pump itself still. If you pull the connection off on the outlet of the pump and switch the ignition on it must be barely producing any fuel at all. I would be interested in a mini engine rebuild series as well as the gearbox in the Sidewalk as I think they are all worthwhile content and don't apologise for this video. I found it interesting to see why the Clubman has been absent for a while.

Glad you like how it looks now buddy. The current plan is to find a good engine to get it back up and running and moving then later down the line when we have “free” time we can build the original one. We will see. Currently collecting parts. Thanks for watching 👍

Fuel pump is in the wrong place, should be at the rear by the tank as they are designed to pump not draw from the tank. I have a similar set up on my frogeye.
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
Yes we know this buddy. It’s been mentioned right at the beginning of ownership. It should actually have a pump on the back of the engine. This will be addressed soon. Cheers for watching 👍

how about fitting an electric su pump from a morris minor ? also bulkhead mounted but much quieter and probably available cheap second hand just to keep you running 👍👍
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
This is what the car had just before my ownership but then they fitted this current one. For me the list of jobs the car needs and the smoking from the engine I am going to swap it out and put it back to mechanical for now. Just so it’s all simple and usable.

If you want to stop your bonnet stay dropping off try putting some heat shrink tubing on at the point it meets the clip (assuming you have a working clip, of course). This provides enough additional friction for the rod to stay in place.
@SimpsonsClassics

I sort of like the feature aha. It doesn’t always do it. I do have a new clip for the bonnet to sort it 👍

Enjoyed the video, but as a retired mechanic I always cringe when I see someone "diagnose" a problem by throwing parts at it. No offense, but a suspected fuel delivery problem should be confirmed and the source narrowed down by use of a pressure guage and a vacuum gauge. The pressure gauge will confirm that there is a problem on the fuel supply side, a vacuum gauge that the pump is sucking but there is a blockage. Then go from there to narrow it down. Ditto for your coolant leak. You suspect the water pump or its gasket. A coolant pressure tester will pump up the system and disclose the source of your leak without having to buy and install parts that may or may not fix the problem. Cheers and keep up the entertaining content. Can't wait to see you get back to the Amazon.

On the positive side you have plenty of great future content there buddy. Totally agree an engine and brake upgrade to get the car back on the road is right way to go. Cars deteriorate badly sitting around. Shame you can’t put a 1275 in there and have some real fun.
@SimpsonsClassics

I’ve experimented with a few different fuel pumps but the best one is the SU electric I’m running now. I have it mounted just to the left of the spare wheel well in the Traveller and seems to be perfect solution now. I’ll send you a pic on IG of how my set up is.

Yes i believe the one at the back would work the best. I think for the future of this car mine will revert back to a manual pump depending on what engine set up I end up with. Cheers buddy.

Sick an mpi engine in it and be done with it 😅 it will be nice to see it back out and you enjoying it. It has been annoying you for a while now. An engine and box refurb will be excellent to watch. Such a cool little car jerry is. The modern pumps are useless an original su pump out of a moggie would be ideal for that mate.

throw the cheap ass Chinese fuel pump away put a facet fuel pump with a pressure regulator , you will regret going cheap on the basics the secondary fuel filter are great and you really didn't need to even look in the float looking at the filter you could see it was going to be dry

To be fair six years is probably the lifespan of a ten pound fuel pump. If I remember rightly I think some a series camshafts had no pump cam if intended for use in electric pump cars.

You should SERIOUSLY consider renewing the tank, not just putting a new sender unit in the old one. Ideally you could do with an electric fuel pump near the tank, complete with an inline filter. Not cheap mods but most likely will sort the fuel starvation out. Can you use a 1275 GT brake setup? The patina is nice but the rot isn't. Drivers door is split under the window at the inner door skin (above the latch). The very best of luck with all your Minis 👍.
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
Obviously if the tank is gone then yes we will address this but it’s the original tank with drain plug, it’s a rare thing these days. So like everything on the channel will try and save it within reason. I guess fuel pump wise it depends on what engine goes in. But either way the current set up will have to go it’s wrong and just doesn’t work. Yep brake wise discs up front and bigger drums at the rear. Don’t want a servo. Don’t rate them and for this car it’s not needed. Body work is fine for the road the tatty look is staying but obviously anything that needs fixing will be addressed… Thanks for watching 👍

Wasn't trying to be arsey, or grandma sucking eggs, just wanted you to have the very best Clubman Estate That you can, before the rust worm kills it altogether. Thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciate it. (A good idea is to have a gearbox stabiliser, don't know if that has one. It might if it has a 3.3 inch crank throw [1100cc engine and later 1275 GT's I believe ]). If you can avoid white 8 spoke wheels that would be a blessing! Hahaha 🖖

Don’t blame you in keeping this cool patina mini. Engine swap and take out original engine to rebuild at a later time. Try moving top fuel hose with filter in front of carb instead of looping it above ? Just a thought 👍
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
That’s the plan. The filter was only set up like for testing a theory out. I normal run one right a the back next the subframe so the rubbish doesn’t make it up that far. I put one in there as a visual thing. Hopefully get some parts together and get going 👍

Will the replacement engine allow use of a mechanical pump? I hope so since that bulkhead mounted pump really is a bit of a bodge. It may be quicker and easier to just get a new tank since the baffles in the estate tank mean getting it clean might be a fight. 7.5 in discs need a servo and there's plenty of room to fit a generic one. Looking forward to watching the progress.
@SimpsonsClassics
@SimpsonsClassics Месяц назад
Yes the replacement engine will have the correct pump. There is no way I am running this pump ever again. The car has always been like this and worked but now I have the chance it’s going. I have the option of a tank swap but I would rather try and save this original one. Once it’s out we will know more. 7.5 discs are better with a servo but you don’t need to run one. I have owned and driven many minis without this, but it’s an option all the same. Thanks for watching buddy. Stay tuned for more.
@peterknight4692
@peterknight4692 Месяц назад
@SimpsonsClassics I just put servos on my two minis with 7.5 discs. Sure you don't have to have one but for a general use car they do make driving a bit less hard work.

@@peterknight4692 yeah completely appreciate that. My plan is to use some good pads new lines and parts where I can and use it like that.
